[Discussion - Opinions Needed] Medals & Awards

Postby Gossamer on August 8th, 2009, 6:24 pm

In light of the fact that I have always felt great RP should be rewarded and acknowledged, I thought I'd start a discussion on that fact. Rather than a big yearly award ceremony, which I think tends to be rather overdone and somewhat of a popularity contest, I'd like us to think more in terms of 'monthly' awards. Somewhere, perhaps on the homepage, I'd really like to see a small section on "Monthly Awards" with a few images and links to said awards. Then, those said threads receive a medal they can proudly display with the month year - each medal having a different color code with a key somewhere as to what they mean.

The Awards I'd like to see are simple. They could easily be skipped too if nothing is suitable in the category for that month.

1. Character of the Month
2. Thread of the Month
3. Romance of the Month
4. Conflict of the Month

If we start encouraging journaling (IC), I'd also like to add a 'Journal of the Month'. I'd normally suggest we do 'Wiki Article of the Month' but since there are about six people who are doing these - I'm quite certain we don't want to keep seeing each other nominated. But that's a good plan for the future if others start contributing routinely.

Tell me what you think! Do you guys like this idea and the concept of having nifty medals displayed beneath your pc names? Tarot has already implemented the code and its working neatly, so taking it a next step won't be difficult. We have a month or two to get organized and then start if thats the way we want to go.

I like the sound of that a lot, would knock off a lot of the popularity stuff that comes from those big things and actually concentrate on the PCs and the threads themselves.

*points at his test medal* Of course that's just the stock picture. ;)

I'm fine with the proposed awards, with maybe a few unique awards for special epic threads. Participants who play a key role in these threads get the medal, which is never awarded again (like campaign awards in the military). What do you think?
Tarot's thread tickets: sold out. Not accepting any more threads for the time being unless I promised you one. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Hmm that I am not so sure about as what happens if the threads just never go with the pc's? Like some won't do combat threads and others won't do (put skill here) and some just don't have the time for a large thread that can last months or longer.

However I would like to see awards to people who push forth on skills like getting ranks or pushing limits of this and that on mixing and matching to form new things but I guess that will go in with what I just said huh

Sounds like there's a lot of favor here. I agree, Tarot, about the unique never-again awarded medals for exemplary threads that personify what we are trying to accomplish here. All of it sounds really fun and a way to highlight great people doing really cool writing and gaming.

I have an idea about something special for epic threads- why not commission a piece of art to celebrate the story? I suggest this boldly because I can barely draw stick figures but I happen to know of one artist...*cough, cough, Goss, cough, cough*

We can even have a special forum or place on the front page called the "Tales of Mizahar" or something where all of these special stories are categorized- like a book.

I could do something like that... no worries. It would be good practice since I'm so sorely out of it.

You know I can only make stick things or less but overall I would like to see how we can work on art and see how far that can take us :)
