“Wow, you’re both very interesting individuals.” Kayle praised.

Kayle smiled at both Xarl and Crypt, conveying his warm mood. He wonders if he should take up magic, but this thought quickly disbursed when reimancy came to mind. He looks at Xarl with curiosity. He never knew that sort of magic existed.

“So how does hypnotism work, do you tie a miza to a string and swing it?” Kayle asked as he stabbed a piece of fruit, placing it in his mouth.

However, because he didn’t know it existed, He has absolutely no idea how it works. He looks up at the roof, pondering about Crypt’s choice of magic. He repeated their names over and over again, imagining their uses, then something hit him. His eyes dropped on you Crypt, and he began to speak.

“You said flux enhances muscles allowing you to have an advantage in battle, but won’t that strain them as well?” Kayle said with concern.

He stabbed another piece of fruit and raising it to eye level. The moisture made the fruit glisten in the light, and looked extremely moist as if it could melt on the fork. He slowly twists the fruit as he thought about his skills. He doesn’t have anything fancy like the others; all he had is acrobatics and fighting skills with his fists.

“Heheh, I wish I could have something fancy like magic to talk about, but I’m quite primitive when it comes to skills.” Kayle said in embarrassment.
“All I have is my acrobatics and hand-to-hand skill” he added while laughing nervously.

Kayle stopped twirling the fruit and placed it in his mouth. He gazed at Crypt then Xarl, waithing their response.

"Kindness is the weapon I wield. It's sharper, stronger and more powerful than any blade, and it penetrates someone's heart better than any arrow. it's power doesn't only come from the wielder, but from the hearts of many as well. Kindness isn't a weapon that should be taken lightly."

So he had been mostly right, Crypt did indeed practice magic, Flux and Auristics. Though from what he had said it seemed as though Crypt was more of a novice in both, still the mere fact that he was able to use two forms of magic was impressive. Xarl also allowed himself to sigh in relief, being run out of an inn in the middle of the night would not have been his idea of a good time.

"You are able to use two different disciplines? Most impressive, very few wizards can manage that without it causing a great deal of strain." Xarl commented.

Turning his attention to Kayle's question Xarl pondered how best to answer, before opting for his mistress' definition.

"Hypnotism is a very old discipline, possibly one of the first to be used by mortals, and is used to influence the minds of others." Xarl replied.

"Unlike say, reimancy, which is very blunt, sloppy, and obvious Hypnotism is very subtle often to the point where the person being manipulated has no idea what is really happening." He continued, a trace of elitism finding its way into his voice as he mentioned reimancy.

It took Xarl a moment to realize that he had gone off on a bit of a tangent, allowing a glimpse of the real Xarl to be seen. Quickly he calmed himself and placed his charming smile back on his face.

"Also worry not, most of Hypnotism is not in the magic, Kayle, it is all about how easily you can get people to trust you, really its nothing special." He said, getting a reign on his passionate emotions.

"My thanks for your compliments, Kayle and Xarl, but I can only maintain them together for about ten seconds before I have to release the Djed and let it flow back - more if I'm concentrating and have time to meditate beforehand. Yes, my muscles are strained whenever I use them - oftentimes I have to rest for a few days before the muscles I enhanced are able to function to the fullest of their abilities. This is mostly due to my inexperience with the Flux, and not just the result of exerting more force than normal with my muscles - if I was more skillful, I would not be so hampered. The trick to minimising such injuries is Balance."

Crypt fell silent as he listened to Xarl's short description of Hypnotism, chuckling out loud as the Hypnotist mentioned a dislike for Reimancy.

"Aye, I've never really liked that Art myself - it [i]can[i/] be useful, but most of the time it's flashy and takes a lot of Djed to achieve spectacular results. I'd prefer to gain complete control of myself - having something similar to partial omniscience would be delightful too."

“I know what you mean, Crypt. Although I don’t condone violence, it’s better to have instant access to your defence. Hence why I favour hands over weapons. A person needs to draw a sword and all I need to do is clench my fist.” Kayle said as he clenches his fist in front of the other, bearing a smile on his face.

Kayle looks a Xarl and wonders about his means of protection. Does he use magic, does he use weapons or does he have something special? Kayle thought to himself.

“Say, Xarl? You know how I and Crypt protect ourselves. I’m curious to know, how do you protect yourself? if you don’t mind me asking. Do you use your hypnosis?” Kayle asked

Dinner at The Herald's Arm

Xarl pondered how best to answer Kayle's question, defense was not something he normally worried about. Rarely did he ever find a situation that he could not talk or charm his way out of. When he did flight instincts generally took precidence over fight instincts. Perhaps that made him a coward but Xarl would rather be a living coward than a brave dead man.

"I do not generally fight people per say, as you can see I am not exactly built for back alley brawls, and I've never held a weapon in my life." Xarl said slowly, carefully articulating each word.

"I have no doubt that if a fight were to erupt here that I would be rather useless, my skills are more geared towards avoiding a fight or taking control of a situation." he continued, leaning back in his chair and steepling his hands out before him.

That was something he eventually intended to rectify, it would not do for him to master the ways of hypnotism only to be defeat by some common fool with a big sword. Compared to learning the ways of magic he figured that learning sword play couldn't be that difficult.

He gave Kayle a sideways glance, "Hypnotism is not exactly geared towards combat either, it is not like reimancy as I have previously stated. If you want to create a distraction for your enemy in order to escape a sticky situation, then yes hypnotism could help you with that."

A cold and cunning gleam came into his eyes for a brief moment, betraying some of his true nature. His charming smile was still plastered to his face but it possessed a more dangerous edge to it as he spoke his next words.

"Besides why fight yourself when you can get others to do it for you?" He mused, shifting his gaze to the ceiling.

"A sword. An expert of the Blade could draw his sword out and slash you in an instant. But, as Xarl has indicated, using magic in combat can be quite useful. Combining weapons and magic is an even more potent combination."

There was something about Xarl's tone that alerted Crypt to a possible threat, and he forced himself away from the languid state of mind he had been in for the past few minutes ever since he had met the two of them (and the ferret).

"But however you try to convince someone to stop attacking you, it wouldn't work if he had his ears plugged or if he was determined to make mincemeat of you. Perhaps distracting him might work, but then again it might not work. As to persuading others to fight for you..."

"Possible, possible. But I daresay that very few would continue to protect in the face of death."

“Using other to fight for you…?” Kayle repeated Xarl’s words.

Kayle never thought about this concept his whole life, the thought of using another person to shield themselves against their will. As he listened to Crypt speak, he realised that only experts could manipulate a person in this sort of way.

“So if a person isn’t willing, they won’t do anything?” Kayle asked, confirming the information.

Distractions were something that Kayle never really learnt. He knew how to catch someone by surprise, but he never really distracted. If a situation got too rough for Kayle, simply running away was his option. No distracting what so ever, his agility was his only mean for a getaway. Kayle began to worry about a situation that simply out running the enemy wouldn’t work. He looks at Xarl and Crypt, and began to ask his question with a worried expression on his face.

“So is there a distraction that doesn’t required magic? I always run away form an encounter if it got too rough, but I don’t think that method will always work…”

Dinner at The Herald's Arm

Postby Xarl on February 24th, 2013, 12:04 am

Xarl cursed himself internally, he'd shown too much of himself, of the ugliness that lay beneath the surface. He needed to salvage the situation quickly, already Crypt seemed to be a little more wary and although Xarl had already decided that Kayle was woefully ignorant the man was not stupid. Deciding to berate himself for his stupidity later he focused his efforts on gaining control.

First he decided to answer Kayle's question, placing warmth in his tone once again.

"Only master Hypnotist can crush a persons will and force them to do their bidding and there are few masters. Someone like myself can subtly manipulate a person with a few well placed words and gestures, making it easier to convince to do things they otherwise would not." He said, lifting one finger up in an instructional manner.

"However it is also possible for a hypnotist to distract a person with hallucinations. These can be as simple as emotional flashes or as complex as constructed memories. In fact I have heard tell of hypnotist who could place false memories in a persons mind, replacing existing ones." Xarl continued.

If his mistress could see him know she probably would have either laughed, or stuck him for divulging knowlegde of hypnotism to outsiders.

"In conclusion, hypnotism is not meant to be used in violent confrontations but rather to subtly manipulate a person into thinking what you want them to." Xarl finished, crossing his arms and nodding his head, satisfied with his explaination.

He turned his gaze back to Crypt, his tone instructional now as he adopted the persona of the teacher like his mistress.

"Yes it is possible for a person to block out some manipulations by deactivating their access to certain outside stimuli, however!" he said, raising his finger pointedly again.

"Even then they would also have blind themselves as hypnosis can be used through eye contact as well, not exactly helping them if they are out to kill me. Also even the most determined man can be halted by a particularly unsettling feeling or memory. All minds have weakness', it is just a matter of guesswork a psychology to figure out what theirs is." He said, his fear of discovery gone, now replaced by enjoyment at the prospect of a scholarly discussion with a fellow magic user.

Take his last bite of his dessert he looks at Crypt and Xarl.

"Thank you, Gentlemen. Your company was very pleasant" he said with a smile.

Kayle sttod up from the table and began leaving the table. he gives the men a wave as he leaves the door.

"Nice people. Right, Ren?" kayle said to his ferret.
