“The defiance!” repeated Valeria, her eyes twinkling with amusement. It was certainly a curious name to give to a boat and it seemed to say a lot about its captain. The red-haired woman stepped aboard his casinor and looked around with judging eyes. It seemed well-kept, but again she seemed slightly put off by something. “Your words, they are too flowery. I do suppose they would work on most merchants, but they will not work on me. I judge with what I see and not from what I hear, Theo Coastrider.” The woman was not being difficult. For anyone else, they would be instantly stricken by how well-versed he was. However, Valeria was much too used to salesmen. While she was impressed with Theo, words would not convince her alone. She took some quick strides across the deck, as if listening to the sounds of her boots hitting the wood. Valeria tapped her foot here and there and made some knocks on the mast. The woman followed him to the cabin and looked around with scrutinizing but pleased eyes. Finally, she looked back at Theo. “Fortunately, I like what I see, so perhaps your flowery words are not too much,” she nodded at him. “Will you take me for a ride once around the Flotilla? And if I like how you sail, we shall have a deal.” |
