It didn’t take her mentor to comment on her excitement and then explain that the farther the distance the adjustments could be minor and great huge changes in accuracy. When he spoke though of putting game arrows through Vivianas at her age, the Yasi had a feeling he was trying to pull an Eagle’s tail-feathers over her eyes, but she refrained from calling him out on it. His previous remark of disciplining her echoed loudly. Yeah and I am just holding back you ol’ goat. She smiled at her innermost thought just then and when he told her to follow him Aose did as was told. When he mentioned her chasing her dreams the yasi blushed before she took to the line and watched him push the target. It became obvious to her what he wanted her to do, What... The... Hell... She gulped and nocked her arrow and rose it into the starting position of her stance. Feet were spread wide apart, left shoulder dropped as she was told, it was a conscious effort still, arrow held in place at bow by her left index finger, the fletching held in place by her right hand’s thumb and two fore fingers. Staring down the shaft of the arrow Aose tried to compensate for the target’s movement... The wind and ground adjustments were easy to adjust... With a still-standing target, yet this one was moving and the frustration was obvious in the yasi’s face as she tried to adjust her stance as the target sung to and fro. Wait! Just relax and count how long it takes to pass to and fro from your center point and do the math Aose. You can do this! Taking a deep breath Aose resettled her centered stance and took to watching the target’s swing in her mind’s eye she could see it swaying. Once it reached it’s left most apex and started back down to pass the center and go back up to the right she started counting... One... Two... Three... Four... Five... Centered... She repeated this sequence a few times more, getting to five each time from both sides. Now... Pull back the arrow when it reaches the top of it’s leftmost swing. Aose did as she thought, pulling back the arrow and counting mentally, One... Two... Three... Without reaching four Aose let loose her arrow. The target swiftly raced in front of her arrow, her arrow flew harmless pass the target. Unfortunate the miss, but the yasi had already nocked another arrow and mentally counted it down from the right side of the target’s course. This time she fired at four and once again missed, this time she growled and realized that she had shifted in her stance when she nocked her second arrow. Once more a solid miss in the way of shooting. Planting herself properly once again Aose nocked herself a third arrow and realizing she wasn’t going to make the count properly closed her eyes, rose her bow. Relax! Pulling back without pause the young archer in training released when she felt it was the right time too. Keeping her eyes squeezed shut Aose waited a long time before opening her eyes. Her arrow missed once again, but she could see the grazing from the last arrow’s trajectory. So close! This happened once more for a total of four missed shots. Lowering her bow she looked at her mentor, This isn’t easy, but I will succeed at least once today! Looking back once more at the moving target Aose rose her bow, nocked and arrow and fired once more. This time the target was nearing when Aose would say Five in her head and she could hear the arrow’s head embed itself into the target. It was there, just inside the very edge of the leftmost bottom of the target. A near miss in itself. Aose nearly jumped in her success but controlled her actions before lowering her bow and resuming a resting position before looking at Kovac. “That is harder than one would expect. A target moving requires more thought in shooting it that I have only heard of prior to this occurrence, now I know it.” |
