18th day of Summer 510 AV
Kail woke up happy on the 18th of Summer. It had been a full moon since she had first meet Taith on the beach and since then they had continuously spent more and more time together. Kail was starting to wonder what she would do without him. Fortunately, she wouldn’t have to find out today. Kail had suggested that, if he were able, they both take this day off from work or study including their formal language training, and spend the entire day together, to commemorate the occasion. Kail didn’t really need to notice the day this much, but she did want an excuse to enjoy the season and the time together. It had worked out, so she planned a picnic and got a few ideas together about where to go and could barely wait the short time for the day to arrive.
Kail got up and went outside to get water to wash in and something from the garden to eat for breakfast. She ended up with a tomato and a bucket of water. She started to get ready for the day as she munched on the hand-sized fruit. As she had been lately, she took a little extra time getting ready, noticing details like making sure her hands were neat and clean of ink spots and her clothes and hair were just right.
Today she was wearing a new outfit she’d just bought at the Waterfall fabrics shop. It included a white cotton skirt with a narrow lace trim around the bottom. It fit tightly over her hips before fairing out into a full skirt around her knees. She matched it with a pale violet shirt that just matched the color of her eyes and really made them stand out in her fair face. It was also tight fitting through the bodice, fairly low cut around the neck, and with sleeves that had extra fabric and several slits that made them lay over her narrow shoulders like sleeping butterfly wings. She knew the outfit, when coupled with her narrow white sandals with slight heals, made her look fantastic. It not only showed off her legs, but also her narrow waist and slender neck. Kail loved finding the perfect outfit and had decided a few days ago that she was going to spend the money to get something new for the day. It really made her feel good. She also made sure her hair was perfectly smooth and curled around her face, framing it nicely.
Once she was ready, she prepared the simple sandwiches she’d planned for lunch. She made 4, hoping 3 would be enough for Taith. She placed them in a basket with a melon from her garden, her water skin filled with a light fruit wine and the sweet cakes she’d taken the time to make the night before. Not a feast, but about what a working girl with little inclination for cooking and the unending urge to spend all of her free time with a man could come up with. She hurried at the end expecting Taith to come to pick her up at any time.
Since it appeared she was ready early, she set the lunch on the table and sat down in her chair. Kail wasn’t surprised she was ready early, even though it wasn’t her usual way. She really was excited about spending the whole day focusing on nothing but Taith. It seemed like there was always something else going on and she was secretly hoping that if they had a good day and she ended up relaxing enough, she could tell Taith that she loved him. She almost felt like he already knew, but she’d never said it and she did want to tell him, whether or not he said it back. She had thought through as many implications as she could think of and decided that there was no point it trying to guess what would happen after it was said. She didn’t even know if she would say it. Everything would have to be perfect. But she might. She was sure of the emotion, if not the response.
