83rd day
Winter 512AV

Shiress stepped out of the doorway of Travelers Row. The day was early and the streets were just beginning to fill with patrons. It was a rather cool morning, still damp from a rain shower the night before. A blanket of lingering fog was just lifting off the land as Shiress made her way down the street smiling and waving to familiar faces. She was heading to the butcher shop having heard the salted pork there was rather good.

A short walk later and she was in front of the store in perfect timing as Dino Albon was just unlocking the door. She followed him inside and stepped up to the counter and placed her order. It went smoothly and in no time a small burlap sack was placed on the counter in front of her. Placing 3 gold mizas beside it, she grabbed the sack and with a smile turned and made her way through the door and back to the street.

Her leisurely stroll back to her small room was interrupted as she noticed a rather cute dog sitting just off the street in front of her, panting calming as it watched each person pass by him. Shiress felt bad, as no one offered him a glance, let alone a scratch behind the ear. She glanced down to the sack in her hand as a grin spread across her face. She broke away from the crowd and made her way toward the canine.

She moved slowly up to the dog and offered her hand. "Hi there" she said as her hand gently rubbed his head. Leaning back up, she plunged her hand inside the sack and pulled out a small piece of pork and offered the dog a treat. "There ya go, boy." She placed an extra treat on the ground in front of the dog and with a final scratch behind the ear, she smiled and stepped away back to the street feeling her good deed for day was done.

A dog's life [Rock]

Rock's first full day in Syliras was beginning rather uneventfully. He had risen early, very early, and done a little bit of exploring. Most of the shops had been closed, as many people were still sleeping. He'd always risen at ungodly early hours. It was nice though, moving through the streets when they weren't so full. The mist in the air dampened the odor of the city, to which he was also grateful. It clung to his thick winter coat, making it feel heavy with moisture. The most exciting thing to happen was the fact that he ended up getting lost. By that time more people were rising to take on the day, so he settled on his haunches at the side of the street, out of their way.

This probably isn't good. If he could have smiled, he would. His backpack leaned against his haunch as he watched the Sylirans mill about like tired ants. It's so different from Sunberth. A man walked by, carrying some hot loaves of bread. Saliva pooled in his mouth and the knot of his stomach growled unhappily, reminding him of the fact that he hadn't eaten since the middle of yesterday. Rock sighed heavily through his nostrils, the thought of a meal sending him into a pant. I'll get something in a little bit. But it turned out the food would come to him.

Most of the people so far had ignored him, the definition of 'stray dog'. But a small woman with wild hair that shined with a hint of red disengaged from the growing crowd and approached him, a hand outstretched in offering. Rock's ears were shoved forward and his tail moved back and forth once, curiosity bubbling. Her fingers held a trace of a scent of meat. His stomach growled again, louder this time. It had been a while since he'd been petted. It felt odd now, but in a good way after all this time. She was the first person in Syliras to make any approach toward him. And she offered him a chunk of pork from the back she was carrying. Two pieces, in fact. No wonder she smelled of meat.

He wolfed down the first, chewing loudly and licking his chops with deep satisfaction. Wherever she's gotten it, it was worth whatever the cost. The second, she laid at his paws. It was all very sudden, and then she was on her way again. His eyes followed her, and before she disappeared past a small group of women, he snapped up the pork on the ground and picked his backpack up in his jaws, setting off after her at a light trot. Within a few short breaths Rock was directly behind her, slowing to a walk to match her pace. He hadn't anything better to do, so he might as well play the part of the sorry stray. He could end up getting more free food out of the act. His tail swiped back and forth again, pleased by the thought of a belly full of pig.

A dog's life [Rock]

Postby Shiress on February 25th, 2013, 5:41 am

Shiress pressed through the now overly crowded street as she made her way back to her tiny room at Travelers Row.

"A good day for a nap." She thought to herself as she gazed upward to the warm sunlight as it peaked through white puffs of cloud. The land and streets of Syliras had become more dry and less cold as the damp, dim day break gave way to a brighter more pleasant morning.

She stepped up to the doorway of Travelers Row and pulled open the door. She quickly stepped aside for a rather large, bearded man to make his way past her, then her 2nd attempt to step through the doorway was interrupted by a small boy darting out after the man. Shiress watched the boy as he ran through the doorway, out into the street and finally grabbing the hand of the rather large, bearded man.

Shiress chuckled as a streak of fur, just beyond the now reunited couple, caught her eye. She let the door close and moved away for a better look.

"Ah, I see you want more treats." She said playfully as she walked up to the dog. She leaned over and rubbed her fingers between the dogs perked ears. Her head tilted slightly as she noticed small backpack clinched between his teeth. She stood slowly as her eyes moved from the pack, to the dog and back again to the pack. "A Kelvic." She pondered to herself as she ran her finger down the front of the pack. "But surely a Kelvic would take human form in the city." She pushed away the thought "Awe, you must be a stray" she said with a pout.

She glanced around the front of the building. "I bet you would like another snack, I know I would love a little bit of company." she said as she moved to the door and pulled it open. "Come on, boy - come inside." She said as she gently patted her thigh..

OOCFeel free to follow her through the building and into her room :)

Curiosity kept his feet moving. His nose tested the air as the sun rose higher and dried the thick moisture in the atmosphere. The smell of the streets was coming back, making his nose prickle. He snorted and pinned his ears back in a moment of distaste. After so long traveling from Sunberth to Syliras, he'd gotten used to the fresh air of the forest and crisp winds that rolled in off the mountains. At least it wasn't as bad as Sunberth. Close, though.

The woman he was following paused to open a door, and moments later a burly man briskly burst from inside. He sniffed the man's boot as he brushed past, and Rock's nose filled with the smell of newly cleaned leather and manure. The child smelled more or less the same, and smiled at him as he rushed to catch up with the man, presumably his father. His tail twitched as he watched them retreat, the little one having to almost run to keep up with the other.

His ear flicked around at the sound of the woman's approach, and he swung his head to look up at her, ever watchful, eyes staring. His tail slashed the air once more and he dropped his bag heavily at his paws. Her fingers smelled even more like pork after giving him the pieces from earlier, and Rock's tongue snaked out to taste them as she pulled her hand away from between his ears. Pork. Saliva flooded his mouth and he broke into a heavy pant, long tongue lolling between his front teeth.

She had him guessed right the first time, but seemed to have changed her mind, and just like everyone else, decided on a stray. He was a little disappointed, but what did he except? He looked exactly like a normal dog, and any dog could carry around a backpack if it really wanted to. But still, she was going to feed him, and who was he to refuse? Rock snapped up his bag and moved inside the open doorway, then followed her to her room. It smells a lot better in here, he thought to himself, looking all around the hall until they stopped in front of her door. She opened it and led him inside the warm room.

A fire danced and crackled in the fireplace on the right wall, a small supply of logs stacked underneath the desk next to it, with its matching chair pushed in place. Near it, pushed up against the wall was a small bed, made up neat with crisp sheets. There's also a closed trunk. Aside from that, the room is bare. Simple, small, and practical. Rock laid his bag at the foot of the bed and sniffed around the room. Mostly it smelled like a clean woman, her without the pork, and timber. His claws clicked against the floor as he moved around, pausing once next to the fire and letting the heat seep into his fur like probling fingers.

Then Rock sat and looked at her, watching, ears shoved foward and tail curled around his front feet.

A dog's life [Rock]

Postby Shiress on March 4th, 2013, 4:02 pm

Shiress placed the burlap sack of pork on the small table along side her pack. She smiled as she stepped around the curious dog and placed a small log on the fire. She unbuttoned her coat and pulled it off as she made her way across the room, placing it on the bed beside her as she sat. She pulled off her shoes and tossed them against the wall. "It's much warmer in here than outside isn't it, fella." She said as she stood. She unbuttoned her pants and slid them down, moving slower over a large bandage on her thigh then stepping over them as they fell to the floor. She pulled her top over her head, pausing for a moment to adjust her hair, then tossed it on the bed. She picked up a cotton shift and slid it on and turned. "Now then, that's better." She said, crossing the room again.

Shiress leaned forward playfully as she spoke. "Now, lets get you something to eat." A smile spread across her face as she swiped the dogs head. She opened the heavy top of the trunk and rummaged around a bit inside, finally pulling out a small wooden bowl and clay container that was sealed with twine and an blue, over size piece of cotton felt. She closed the trunk and sat on the floor next to it.

She placed the wooden bowl to the floor in front of her, untied the twine and tilted the container over the small bowl. "This, my friend, is last nights supper, complements of The Rearing Stallion. You like stew, don't ya boy?" She placed the now empty container on the table and pulled the pork filled sack to her lap and pulled two chunks out and placed them on the blue felt and slid both the bowl and pork across the floor to her new canine friend.

Shiress leaned against the trunk and sighed. Tears filled her eyes as she leaned and rubbed her fingers across the dogs ear " Im glad you followed me." Shiress smiled "I could really use a friend."

Notes :
Not much too award here, Shiress.

Just a note, I'm not sure how would Shiress notice the dog as a Kelvic immediately. Hmmm... I'm assuming that Shiress noticed the dog carrying a pack and immediately assumed he's a Kelvic? :)
