Cirrus

Cirrus looked out at the docks for a moment longer before replying. "Yes, that is actually very good for me. I suppose my lodging has been worked out, then!" he exclaimed, with a broad grin. "It'll be good to sleep with something solid over my head. I've had canvas over it for long enough," he joked, as he began walking to keep up with the Konti. "East Street sounds intriguing. After I tell you of my travels, you must tell me what drama unfolds there!" he said, good-naturedly, and winked. "Truly, criminals make for the best song subjects. They're forever making ridiculous errors and slaying important, romantic people."

Cirrus walked in silence for a moment, while he tried to describe Cyphrus in a way that betrayed nothing of how fatally boring he found it. "Yes, they sail Cyphrus like an ocean of grass. Their mastery of horses is admirable, and yet I found myself not really taken by the riding itself. A strain on the legs, you see," he said, almost seriously, looking to the Konti. "I have a horse, but mostly she is a pack-mule, carrying my tent from one campsite to another. I am grateful for that much, though, and she is fed out of the deal. Cyphrus itself is like an empty, huge ranch hired out by lords, who spend their days riding around it playing at war. I was almost ridden down by a party of Drykas one day but they decided I wouldn't be enough of a challenge to justify the time wasted searching for better sport. A nation of proud, warrior savages. I suppose something of their way is admirable, but I find none of it to my taste."

He snapped his fingers and made an expression of mock-realisation. "But I am side-tracked. You have told me nothing of your travels, and I have told you much. What of the Konti Isle? And what of this city, of Zeltiva? How come you to these places, and what do you think of them?"

OOCA post, at last! Sorry for the delay...

Eleret started in surprise as Cirrus requested tales of East Street, blinking at him and then answering with a brief peal of laughter. "I admit, it is not a place I go much," she replied, shaking her head as they walked. "But maybe others in World's End will have good stories for you."

She fell quiet as he did, letting the minstrel take as long as he needed to set his words in order. "Sail?" she echoed, stealing a thoughtful glance between buildings in the direction of the docks. He went on to talk about horses, and the Konti concluded Cirrus was only playing with the words -- she had never heard of actual boats sailing the Sea of Grass. Though there were undoubtedly stranger things in the world, and just because she hadn't heard about it before didn't mean a thing was impossible. "I have a horse," Eleret remarked, because that at least she could remark upon. "I ride her sometimes, and sometimes not. It is not something I have done for long."

A ranch hired out by lords; constant warfare; proud warriors out for sport and blood. "It sounds very unlike Zeltiva or Mura," the Konti finally replied. Different like day and night, a place rough and hard and possibly entirely unfit for such as she. Sybel had had other stories, Eleret recalled... hadn't she talked about Drykas when they first met? She thought she would ask the Benshira more about Cyphrus sometime. For the present, Cirrus returned the onus of conversation to her, and Eleret took it up.

"I have come to Zeltiva three times," she replied. "The first two, I study at University. This time, I am here for a little while before I go more inland. I like Zeltiva," Eleret continued, though that really said little about the city's character. "Its people are tied to the sea almost as much as mine, though in different ways. Zeltiva is the ships, and the University, and the sea.

"Mura... Mura is the lake. I remember when I first came here, I was surprised the city was all dry. Mura was made on the shore and in the water both. Then there is the forest, the Silverwood, with trees that turn all white in winter. It is a very... peaceful place," she concluded, slightly wistful with the memories of home.

OOCI notice, as I review this, that I didn't spend many words on their progress towards the inn. Feel free to have them arrive at the door and wrap up with your post, if you would like!

Cirrus

Cirrus grinned broadly at the woman's laughter. "Sooner or later, everyone has a story. I'll find one somewhere," he assured her, friendlily. "And when I do the crimes of East Street will become legend! And indeed, I ride as well, but not very well. I more often lead my horse, because I'm forever falling off. Legs too short and weak, you see," he joked, shaking the leg he was stepping with as if it were that of a ragdoll's. "And it is. Civilisation is there, but it is never like ours. There's a city that moves, of tents and horses, where many Drykas live. That was good fun to explore, as it changed whenever they pitched their tents somewhere else. The civilisation is maybe a little like the Benshiran one, except my kind don't tend to ride their horses because they find it fun, and don't ride all over a massive plain made of grass for fodder."

Cirrus stayed quiet for a moment, letting Eleret speak of her people. Meanwhile, they walked uphill, towards a building that was, oddly, studded with seashells and other things. The World's End Inn? Perhaps, Eleret was certainly walking towards it. "Well, this is my first and most likely last time in Zeltiva. I leave when the season ends, travelling around to other places. Usually I go wherever I can be accompanied by armed men for free or for labour. Caravans, mostly.

"My home is water of no kind. I don't know how the plants grow but my people have perfected the art of extracting water from them, because the only way you find water in pools in Eyktal is by cutting open... uh... they're spiked, tall green plants. I know not the word.
Cacti, we call them in Shiber. The idea of enough water that you'd never have to search for more was alien to me until I first found a stream. A coursing vein of water! No wonder everything here is so lush and green!" Cirrus wondered. "But trees that turn white, that is interesting. We have white sands but they generally stay white in the desert. Alas, I would love to speak further with you but it seems we have reached our destination. This is certainly an inn, in any road!" Cirrus stopped outside the shell-studded building. "It has been a pleasure," he parted from here, kissing her hand as we went in and immediately went to finding the innkeeper. From there, he worked out a room for music, and payment as well. Living as a bard was normally singularly easy - thanks to the gods that he was so good at it.
