Gathering on the North Shore [Quest Signups]

Postby Anchor on March 2nd, 2013, 7:44 pm

7th - 59th of Spring, 513AV

Several fireplaces had been set up on the beach just north of Syliras, between the wall and the outpost. They dotted the beach, varying in size but always guaranteed to have a collection of seemingly random items around them. Instruments, nets, line, anything else that you would expect to find in the possession of a beach seafarer. However, most common of all were the weapons, both real steel and wooden practice replicas. Cutlasses, short swords, bows and arrows, all sorts of small and medium sized arms were strewn about the place. On the shore, about a dozen casinors had been beached, their hulls resting in the shallow sandy waters and close so that anything not already out and set up could be easily accessed. Slightly farther out to sea, some palivars were anchored in a line parallel to the sand, a small line of ships with the sails up but easily let down at a moment's notice, and the lines were tight and ready to use. As soon as the word was given, they could be sailing within a chime or two.

The owners of the vessels were mostly on the beach around the campfires, doing what Svefra normally do. They were singing songs and dancing lively, enjoying their time of being together as a family. The young listened to the old tell stories, and drinks were passed around aplenty. Underneath it all was an uneasy tension though, for they were not here purely for the sake of recreation. More men and women than usual for an event like this were up and about, sparring with their weapons and practicing their skills, keeping them consistent and training them to push a little farther. While there were smiles, they seemed small and uneasy when compared to the normally light-hearted jovial mood of Laviku's blue-eyed children. Even the drunks, who in most cases would be singing loudly and obnoxiously, were quiet and solemn in their stupor. While to outward appearances it might have seemed like a social, those who knew the Svefra well would notice the unease pass over their faces, the frowns of thought that passed over their faces at the mention of a name, the uncharacteristic concentration of a traditionally free and loose people. They would know the truth.

This was not a gathering of festivity. This was a gathering of war.

Signups - Please read before posting :
Hey all! For those of you who've seen the notice board and followed the link, you've come to the right place. If not, this is the IC thread where your character can join the quest in the Suvan Sea, scheduled for the 63rd of Spring, to hunt down the pirate blasphemer Braten. There are absolutely no requirements to join, though that said you should at least have an interest in fighting if you don't know how to already, and it is open to people of all races and walks of life. If you don't know how to fight, but know some medicine or have the Healing gnosis then you're just as if not even more welcome, as the Svefra do predict casualties for this attack.

You can join any date up to the 59th, which is when word of Braten's location is received and the attack group heads out. While you're here you're free to train with the NPCs or each other, perform any social threads you may like, or maybe even pick up some new skills from the other people who gather here. It is important to note however that because the Svefra don't know when word will arrive, from the time your character joins the gathering IC to the time the Svefra receive the message you will be expected to be there in case it happens suddenly (which it will), so if you have anything you want to do in Syliras for early Spring then you should do that first before you join this thread. After the quest is over, you will be given transport to wherever you want free of charge as thanks (maybe a bit on the side as well), so that means you'll still be able to make it for the Kalea regional quest if you're up for that too. :D

For those who want to join, go ahead and make a post IC where you just sidle up and announce yourself and I will get to you ASAP. If you have anything in particular you want to do like training or learning something new then make an OOC note and I will make sure that you get to do it. No camping or sailing experience required to make it here as everything will be provided for by the Svefra you're so generously helping. ;) Consider it a payment up front. Any questions feel free to PM.

That's it questers, have fun and happy writing!

Gathering on the North Shore [Quest Signups]

Postby Kreig Messer on March 11th, 2013, 6:28 pm

47th Spring, 13th Bell 12th Chime

Kreig didn't expect for Natasha to agree to this, when he told her he wished to join in this conflict the Svefra were preparing themselves for, but she did and he was now here. Granted a number of days of leave to partake in this 'learning experience' she called it. For Kreig it wasn't much of an experience but rather just a chance to let loose and to apply what he had learned so far “Though I suppose it’s a chance to do something noble, right? I mean, I’m not expecting any reward out of this” Kreig said to no one in particular as he arrived at the beach, the collective of ships in the distance and the gathering of Svefra on the shore said with a collective of weaponry. Kreig had seen Svefra in Sunberth and what he knew was that they were a jovial sort, they didn’t look so at the moment.

Kreig, other than the clothing on his back, also had his longsword with him and his batter gauntlets which often enough could be seen on his fists like they are now. He had no form of armor on him, save for the clothing he wore to protect him from the elements. He approached the lot of Svefra, a sense of unease sending shivers up his spine, but a sense of excitement also filled him as spoke to the lot “ Greetings sea faring gents and ladies, I’m here about aiding in apprehending, or the more appropriate, beheading the pirate Braten. That’s his name if I heard correctly, I hope?” Kreig said with an awkward smile, there was something about Svefra that make an Akalak look like kittens in comparison. Oh sure the Akalaks were big, blue and a warrior culture but the Svefra were quite similar and that they were big, blue in the eyes and they were natural warriors of the sea….and their teeth looked like it could rip flesh. But the excitement of all this was quite thrilling in its own way and so it trumped the unease he felt.

Gathering on the North Shore [Quest Signups]

Postby Perc on March 12th, 2013, 9:19 pm

49th of spring 513 16th bell.

Perc had heard about the Svefra looking for people to help fight some pirate who had broken some kind of Svefra law. And while perc could enjoy a scrap he had decided form himself that in his untrained state fighting against a bunch of cutthroats and vagabonds at the middle of the suvan sea while not even being able to swim might not be the greatest idea. Of course his patron managed to get wind of the fact his squire hadn't given himself up yet and had actually forced him to do it, to get him a bit of experience. Ser ramones hadn't given his slight protest at the fact he couldn't swim any thought and just pushed him outside the door when they where pausing for training and told him to volunteer himself.

Perc had never seen any svefra gathering really, living quite a bit away from the suvan sea. The only svefra he had talked to was lucy. Couple in the fact Perc wasn't the most socially savy person even when he did know how normal gatherings were supposed to go, he didn't quite see the tension that floated around the gathering. The big farmboy walked up to the first group of svefra who didn't seem to busy with doing anything.
"Hey all, I don't really know how everything works with svefra. But my patron sent me here to volunteer myself to help hunt down the pirate Braten." Perc said in a friendly, but blunt tone. "You guy's know who to talk to for that?"

ooc :
YOu asked for which skills I wanted to be trained in ;) here they are. weapon:bastard sword, shield, weapon:axe, weapon: dagger and last but most importantly. Swimming, can't go and fight on a boat without that skill!

Kreig

Squire Messer had just happened to pick a group of particularly large Svefra, obviously seasoned veterans, interrupting them in the middle of a training bout. Most continued to spar, using real weapons that rang and clanged with each hit, but a couple shifted their attention to the Syliran. Their natural height meant that they had a good several inches above the brawler, and as one stepped over with his cutlass in hand and a frown on his face one could mistake the movement for almost intimidating. But the seafaring warrior only broke out in a large grin, chuckling at the knowledge of his appearance.

"We will not be apprehending him," he growled heartily. "As soon as any of us get the chance we'll stick him like the pig he is." With a a meaty arm, he made a sweeping gesture around the large collection of Svefra, growing with each passing day as some of the nearby pods began trickling in. "Welcome to the camp. Your other city-folk are over by that far campfire, but you're free to talk with any of our people if you like. Before you make yourself comfortable, do you know how to swim?" The question was an important one, as not knowing would obviously be a large danger out on the sea.

Perc

Some Svefra warriors had just finished practice and were helping themselves to some liquor and food cooked by those in the pods who were able to. They were simply talking and resting for the moment, the glisten of sweat sparkling on the brows of the fighters, and as the large Syliran approached they still paid no mind until he addressed them directly. Those nearest him looked up, still smiling from the conversations with their kin, and beckoned him closer. Their gestures were loose and relaxed, completely unperturbed by the arrival of the unfamiliar squire.

"No need to be so formal son," said one of the men, a smile in his voice. As Perc drew closer, the Svefra stood up and clapped his shoulder, standing even a few inches taller than the farm boy. "You're in good hands here, and thanks for offering your arm. We'll take all the help we can get." The seafarer flashed a grin. "But before you use your arm to fight with us, you must first use it to swim. Since you're from the city I assume you haven't had many chances to get your feet wet. No shame, but it'll be awfully dangerous if you don't know how."

Turning around, the Svefra pointed to a group of people in the shallows of the shore, with a tall blonde woman facing them. "If you need lessons, Lisette over there is teaching a few of your kin's mercenaries to get comfortable in the water. No need for introductions, just say you want to learn and she'll take you in a heartbeat." Nodding, he sat back down, lifting the cup of ale he'd left alone. "Good luck friend."

OOCYou can post the thread start, or if you want me to just PM and I'll get on it.

Gathering on the North Shore [Quest Signups]

Postby Lucy Tides on March 14th, 2013, 8:45 pm

50th Spring 513 AV 6th bell

The waves washed in the early dawn. Light danced across Lucy's face, reflecting in her eyes making them look like tides. The early light cast a shadowy glow on the empty fire pits, sea faring accessories, tents, and shined weaponry. I heard there were Svefra here, but why so many?' A breeze still cold with winter's chill passed through the black cloak and pushed against her lilac shirt. She shivered and looked out into the sea. A long line of casinors greeted her. Her blue eyes danced from ship to ship until she saw one sporting the Tide's flag, the last of its kind. She heaved a sigh of relief. 'Maybe there's a clue up there.' Few if none of the Svefra were up at this ungodly hour, so she had no problem getting to her ship.

Her long black boots sprayed sand on her white pants and long black curls. Her feet slowed a few yards away from her ship and she shook her head furiously but was unsuccessful in getting the sand out. Sighing she walked her way into the ocean until she reached the ladder that lead up to the deck of her casinor. She climbed it quickly and jumped aboard. The ship looked the same expect for a piece of parchment stuck to her cabin's door. She walked over to it and noticed the writing was Fratava. It read "Braten has betrayed his kin." 'What do I do now?''

Lucy climbed down her ladder and ran back to the beach where the tents were. More people had begun to wake up and start fires. She decided to talk to the elder whose fire was already started. "Good morning," Lucy said in Fratava with a smile. 'I missed talking in Fratava.' "I'm Lucy Tides, my pod has been destroyed and I have taken refuge in this city for a short while. What can you tell me about Braten?" She asked and held her hands out to the fire trying to warm them.

Lucy

The older woman that Lucy had happened across looked up and smiled, her blonde hair tied back so that the two pairs of blue eyes could look clearly into each other. "You should join another pod lass," she advised, voice solid with experience. "It's not good for the children of Laviku to wander alone, it is bad luck to be without one's pod as well as practically difficult." Then she let loose a small sigh, looking into the flames. "I guess I'm not one to talk though. After all, I'm the one that let one of my sons out into the world. Wish I'd told him no."

For a moment she sat there, seemingly forgetting that Lucy was still waiting for an answer. "It must have been a while before you have been amongst other Svefra," she said at last. "Most have heard of him already. He's an Inarta, a large brute of a man by Lisette's description, hulking and powerful. He handles his ax the way a child would a toy she says, despite being almost half the size of you or I. His crew is likewise brutally strong, though not nearly to the same degree, and they have been a thorn in the Sea Father's side for far too long. We here await word of his location so that we may sail quickly and promptly."

Gathering on the North Shore [Quest Signups]

Postby Kreig Messer on March 18th, 2013, 7:07 pm

“Swimming?” That is when it hit the brawler, the sad unfortunate truth that both he and his Patron neglected. The poor chap didn’t know how to swim, oh sure there were the Sunberth Docks but it was rare that anyone other than sailors and their brats ever swam in those waters. In essence Kreig needed to learn how to swim, he never bothered to think of it much less make time for it “Well, pardon my language but….Shyke. Sorry I don’t quite know how to swim” He admitted as he gave himself a light smack on the head “I feel quite foolish to even forget that life or death fact, but…and I hope I’m not being too bold…. Can I request that any of you teach me how? I do truly wish to give my aid, I do wish for the waters to be safe for those who journey across it.” He placed one of his hands on his left, caressing the metal gauntlet that covered it

“And, while I suppose where on the subject of training. Are there any willing to aid me in improving my skill with the Longsword, I am afraid I am more competent with my fists but my fists can only take me so far….. Again I don’t mean to be a burden” He give them his most sincerest smile as he looked at one of the Svefra’s who had spoken to him in the eyes “ I really do wish to help in any way I can”

Gathering on the North Shore [Quest Signups]

Postby Lucy Tides on March 18th, 2013, 10:57 pm

Lucy smiled warmly at the woman's advise. She put a hand on her shoulder even while listening to the story of Braten. "I see... Well I will be more then glad to help my kin, just a problem though, I'm not that well at fighting. I'll need someone to teach me." She said and finally removed her hand from the woman's shoulder. Before the kind elder could answer, she add, "I cannot give up my mother's name. I must carry on by myself and learn to survive. If others wish to help me and I help others along the way then it's for the good of all." Lucy said.

"And don't worry, I believe your son is doing just fine." Lucy said and wondered what it would be like to have a child of her own. Watch the child grow into a fine adult and then wander off into the world by itself. She had to choke back tears at this. 'I think I can understand, after all I've lost all my family.'

OOCLucy needs to learn how to fight and she can teach others how to swim or sail.

Gathering on the North Shore [Quest Signups]

Postby Matthias Kyras on March 18th, 2013, 11:44 pm

OOC: Matthias has no combat experties and a bum leg but he was a field docter when he was still an adventurer. He is also a competent philterer. Figure I might as well throw him into another adventure.

51st of Spring. 8th Bell.

Matthias had found his research stagnating as of late. It was a sad truth but a truth none the less, he had hit a massive stumbling block with his current mixtures. His contacts were very slow in bringing in new reagents as of late and he was starting to feel somewhat empty. Perhaps that was why when the philterer had heard of a large number of Svefra heading out to the Suvan Sea he had actually listened to it and pondered for going.

Well that pondering had turned into a serious thinking session as he stared blankly at his alembic yesterday, about how his wife had alway wanted them to go out on the Suvan one day. Considering that this could be a good way to get some time away from his stagnating experiments, and that it would please Ssyhssai's spirit where ever it was he had made his descision. Besides he was not too old for one last adventure.

So after after settling his affairs while he would be gone, the philterer had set out for the Svefra camp, bring his pack, some remedial alcemical supplies, and of couse his trusty cane.

So that was how Matthias came to be standing in the middle of the Svefra camp, his trademark scowl still firmly in place. He glared at anyone who looked at him funny, as was his way and finally after a few minutes, realizing that he had no idea where to go, decided to ask someone.

The tall man's philterer robes swept about him as he limped over to a feirce looking woman inspecting a cutlass, his cane thumping loudly against the ground as he walked.

"You there, I understand that you lot need a doctor for this mission of yours. Look no further." The philterer stated to the woman.

"I don't suppose you could direct me to where I might be working. I need to inspect you facilities and see if they are up to par." Matthias said, his words blunt and to the point.

Gathering on the North Shore [Quest Signups]

Postby Shiress on March 19th, 2013, 4:03 pm

58th Day
Spring 513AV

Shiress stood with her long hair flowing back gently against a breeze. Her green eyes set in a gaze out across the sea. She was lost in thought, contemplating a journey across the shimmering waters.

Growing up in Zeltiva with a father that worked in the shipyards, Shiress spent a lot of time on ships playing and exploring, but never had she been on one as it sailed the high seas.

The moment she heard tale of this mission on the sea and the battle that would ensue her curiosity was peaked. Not only would a short leave from Syliras benefit her emotional state, but her medical knowledge attained by shadowing her mother at the University's infirmary could actually benefit someone.

Her eyes moved inland to the many fires beginning to spark along the shoreline and sighed having made up her mind to join this mission. She spotted a group gathering by a near by fire and step away in that direction.

Shiress stepped up to the first person she came to. "Hi, um, I think my medical skill may be of help and I would like to offer them. I do have a kukri, though I do not have the skill to use it, but I would like to train to do so." Shiress gave a hesitant smile as she waited for his response.

OOCI would like for Shiress to be trained with her kukri, maybe unarmed too, but if not she has medical skill :)
