Character Concept
Personality: Kent is soft-spoken and quiet. He is hardly aggressive towards strangers, merely wary. Though he is a man of few words, he knows the importance of making connections. Naturally he has no problem making new friends and enjoys having company for as long as it is available. Being alone most of his life has rendered him independent, so he shies away from handouts. Kent's protective instincts are incredible, due to the fact that he wishes to conserve anything that he has left.
Ethics: Kent is kind and gentle, and is disgusted by all that is evil. This is due to strict upbringing in his community. As a boy, he aspired to take part in the elimination of darkness and become a paladin of Mizahar, if such a thing existed. Still, his good morals shaped his dreams, and they still do today.
Likes: Kent loves to travel and make connections, not to mention satisfy his need for adventure. He began obsessing about these past times while burrowing his nose into book after book; indulging in tales of romance and ancient folklore. When he isn't traveling, Kent is searching for dungeons to raid and purge, as delving is his occupation.
Dislikes: Bandits and anything of the sort. It's one thing to be a thief, but to be a cutthroat and murder those you have already wronged once by robbing is a huge low in Delvin Kent's eyes. He also hates the undead, seeing them as unholy creatures that mean nothing but harm to the living. He shies away from magic and sorcery because he doesn't trust it; however, if it is necessary, he utilizes it.
Character History
Delvin Kent was born in Avanthal in the early part of Winter. His family had been invited to live in either Coolwater or Frostfawn Hold. Never finding the home that was quite right in Coolwater, his family settled in Frostfawn. As a toddler, he spent his days cooped up inside. His family was known for their platinum blonde hair and vibrant blue eyes. He rarely saw his father because he held a job in Coolwater Hold at the fisheries, and at some points he stayed away for weeks at a time. When his mother wasn't teaching him to read and write, she was going door to door, healing sick livestock with herbs. Kent spent most of his time with his sister, Aran, who was 13 years his elder. She read him stories and wove tells of splendor and romance, entrancing him for hours. She brought him outdoors and introduced him to Vanthan boys and girls, and they played roughly in the snow, pretending to save the damsel in distress (Kent's sister) from the evil monsters (a select group of kids). By the time Kent was in his preteens, he developed a love for the cold. A love for survival. For adventure.
One day, Kent walked in on a massive argument between his Aran and his father. When he asked what was wrong, she stormed off, and his father just shook his head. The next day she was gone. They trudged the entire parameter of the hold and sent people to look through Avanthal. They even searched the Talderan Tundra for a body. Nothing showed up. Kent angrily confronted his parents to find the reasoning behind her disappearance. When they told him, he couldn't believe his ears.
She wanted to fall in love.
She wanted to see the world. Find someone to call her own, and become knowledgeable in a form or art. Naturally his parents had objected, wanting to keep her close. But Kent understood her yearning. He too, had dreamed of adventure. He also wanted travel and create a name for himself. He didn't know anything about love; he was far too young, but he was sure he would want that too, when the time came. He dedicated the rest of his youth to training, saving, and learning ways to be prepared for the time he would leave the nest. His father, a person who met many different races at the Coolwater docks, taught him different phrases and words from the Fratava language, his favorite of the races. "Ye' never know when ye might need it, my boy" he always said with a wink. Though Kent normally only spoke common, he picked up on quite a bit from the Vanthans and learned the basics of the Vani language. While Kent worked on horseback riding, sword fighting, and learning, he never stopped reading books. Books were the escape from the everyday boring life of Frostfawn. They were the portal to adventure, heroism, and romance. Books were the link to he and his sister. He knew she was still alive, and when he came of age, he was going to find her. And when he did, he would weave her tale.
