This is Falyndar at its finest. Danger lurks everywhere - in the ground, in the trees, in the bush. Only the strongest survive...

So come on in, have a seat and tell us about your day and what dangerous and potentially deadly additions you'd like to see in your wilds. Just watch out for the tigers and quicksand! |

So the jungle may be filled with big cats, poisonous frogs, and brightly hued parrots, but what else can a wanderer in the jungle potentially see? Well I figured I'd try to occasionally throw some jungle animals about that aren't your average stereotypical inhabitant. These aren't critters that need to go in the lore since they exist IRL. I'll try posting these every now and then to keep things interesting in here, haha.
So, are you int eh jungle looking for a quick meal, but know you're not finding any rabbits? Try an Agouti!
About the size of a jack rabbit minus the ears with the ability to sit on their haunches like a squirrel, the Agouti primarily dwells on the jungle floor, scurrying from place to place. Cautious but fairly commonplace.
If you're one of those hunters that only does their thing at nght, try the larger nocturnal cousin of the Agouti, the Paca!

Alright some more critter info!
This time we'll look at two creatures that would be pretty hard to find. Firstly the Tapir:
Mostly nocturnal, Tapir are shy reclusive creatures that would be difficult to find in the jungle wilds, uncommon, but not rare. The leather from them is supple and good for all sorts of creations, making it highly prized by both Myrian and Dhani craftspeople, which makes Tapir populations higher farther away form the cities of Zinrah and Taloba.
Baby Tapir...SO CUTE!
The other creature is not as commonly known ooc, and is the Okapi.
Related to the giraffe, they have a mixture of diurnal and nocturnal habits, and are reclusive like the Tapir. Their skin is highly prized for the distinctive markings upon it, leading to a similar situation to the Tapir.
Happy hunting my lovelies! |

The Cassowary
Common Locations: Found in the depths of the Falyndar jungle.
Frequency: Uncommon
Overview: The Cassowary is a flightless bird native to tropical forests that are relatively hard to find due to their shy nature. Although their diet consists predominantly of seeds, fruits, plant shoots, and fungi, they are truly omnivorous. Rats, insects, frogs, snails, fish, mice, and carrion are consumed when available. When provoked it isn't rare to witness these birds lash out aggressively with their beaks and talons.
Characteristics: Trademark appearances of this bird include black feathers, long blue necks, casques on their heads, and three toes with five inch long talons. They can stand between five and six feet tall, while females may reach six and a half feet in height. Tail feathers and preening glands are absent. Their short wings with five or six remeges are nothing more than stiff quills without barbs. Cassowaries are capable of running up to 31 MPH and reaching 5 feet when jumping. In addition to easily navigating themselves through thick foliage, these birds have no trouble swimming in the sea or across wide rivers either.
Social Structure: The birds are solitary until mating season arrives. Males will defend territory of up to 1,700 acres for itself and its mate but females are free to roam several male territories. While males will still drive a rival off, they tolerate each other's presence far better than two females may.
Miscellaneous: When moved to become hostile the Cassowary will utilize its long talons to kick at its offender. It is said the powerful strike is capable of severing an arm or eviscerating an abdomen without much difficulty. Fatalities due to a Cassowary encounter are not often but it is certainly not unheard of.

Hello my lovely savages!
In the spirit of NaNo I have posted up Perk System for the jungle wilds, there's something for everyone! I want to see this jungle explode this month with furious writing, so get to it!
Also we have a new addition to the Falyndar team, Soliloquy! If you haven't already greeted her in the Campfire thread I'm glaring at you very angrily. Just kidding.
But I am.
Happy Writing, and as always, Safe Travels!
