Aose was excited, having overheard the news about the Wind Eagle hatchlings having been born today! The young girl just couldn't keep her excitement contained as she rushed through the menial task she had currently before her, and that involved the sweeping up after the Chiet and Avora chefs in the kitchen, They always leave a mess!
That didn't stop Aose from hurrying through her bendi task and running off to the aeries to sneak a look at them.
I remember what you said Endal Sira, I will make my presence known to them. Pausing on her way out the door the young girl grabbed some of the meat that was partial cured from a rack and crammed the semi-raw sticky mess into a pocket, ignoring the seasonings, blood, and sticky residue that remained on her hands from the act. It would appear that the Yasi had nothing more on her mind than to see those beautiful hatchlings! It wasn't far from where she was now either, which was her luck after all.
Aose took off in a jog, taking the quickest route to the aeries not too amazing to imagine, but the route the Yasi took was rather empty, it seemed that everyone else was in the Courtyard of the Sky. Perfect! |

Aose had arrived at the aerie, standing just at the entrance way the young girl suddenly lost what confidence she had at the beginning of this little mini-journey. “Wait. I am Inarta! I will be an Endal...” Taking a deep breath Aose slipped into the nursing aerie, she had to wait a few minutes to give her senses a chance to catch up and not overwhelm her. After all, the stench of bird poo was one thing when it was in one location such as this, but the sounds and the dampened sense of sight needed to be put into perspective.
When she finally could see clear enough, and the screeching calls of food and for mother had relieved themselves to common sound Aose scanned for the source of the calls, spotting the two young eagles in a nest a little ways into the cave. A smile graced her face as she bounded over to them, crouching so she was eye level with the edge of the nest. They were cute little birds, their downy feathers not quite hiding their pale skin. Their wings looks unappealing, lacking guiding feathers and such as of right now.
The hatchlings' eyes were closed, but their beaks were wide open, screeching loudly for something. It made their beaks look even larger than they probably really were. Aose could see the cute little pink tongues lashing about, helping to articulate their cries. Aose smiled and cooed, “Don't worry little ones, Aose is here. I'll feed you.”
Aose reached into her pocket and remove one of the pieces of semi-raw seasoned deer meat. The yasi grunted a bit as she ripped it into small manageable pieces and one by one held them up by her fingers to feed the beautiful babies.
“There you go... Now now, don't fight, I have plenty for ya both.” She smiled down at them as she held up another small sliver for them both. |

Aose went to feed the two young birds that she had decided to take under her ‘wing’ and it was going to be the worst thing she could have possibly have done this season. The yasi had zero training in how to handle or even feed these little winged creatures, let alone care for them.
It was in this very moment, a small chunk of seasoned deer meat was perched over both their wide opened mouths that Aose was startled by someone entering the Aerie. First they called out to her in a stern voice, Aw crap.]/i] She was caught… Secondly she had let her hands drop lower than they should have, so when the two small beaks latched onto the chunks of meat they also caught the tips of her fingers.
A yelp escaped her lips as she yanked her hand away, grimacing at the small wounds seen on the tips of her fingers. Sticking fingers in her mouth to try to stop the bleeding Aose turned to see an older man standing there, a look of annoyance traced on his face. [i]Uh oh…
It was an instructor for the older Yasi children. They were usually the ones that showed some sort of aptitude for falconry and the likes and those older yasi were the ones that trained under the chiets and avoras to feed and care for the young eagles… Not yasi Aose’s age.
Crap… Crap… Crap…
When the instructor gave Aose her punishment she cringed but accepted it without sass, as much as she wanted to…
Exercise in character building my young ass. You are just too bloody lazy to get a Dek to do it for you.
And it was with that punishment and her last thoughts Aose was pushed out of the Aerie and back into the more populated locations of the Mount Skyinarta. |
