An inland sea created by Ivak's cataclismic fury during the Valterrian, the Suvan Sea is a major trade route and the foremost hub for piracy in Mizahar. [lore]
Edreina was surprised with the little Otani pulled her to her feet and began to swing her about wildly, in a jig that Edreina had seen children do before many times. It was so carefree that Edreina could not help but laugh and let out a whoop as the two spun about upon her deck. Spinning about, Uleru began to sing a song that Edreina had not heard sung before. The tune was familiar, it had been whistled on many-an-Anchorage deck before, but it was as if the words had long ago been lost to the waves of time. As the dance ended, Uleru kissed Edreina quickly, playfully, and action which caused an automatic blush to rise in Edreina's freckled cheeks.
"Jealous, so jealous they are of this ship! I will pay attention to your teachings with diligence if I can learn to sail like that again."
A quiet laugh rang out from Edreina as something about the statement tickled her. Jealous of this ship? Blue eyes darted about to take in her less than mint Casinor. "So, your saying that you would like to be taught again? Perhaps in the future?" Smiling still, the Svefra leaned back against her own mainsail, now completely furled. "Well... If we ever meet again, I will be sure to teach you more. By then, I will probably be better myself," her tone was hopeful. As much as Edreina loved her new Otani friend, she felt as if she could not teach her very much, lacking much in technical skill herself; instinct could not be taught. "If you ever find yourself near the Anchorage Flotilla - it is the large grouping of ships that I'm sure you've seen floating together - be sure to find me. You can come onto the decks and I can show you what it looks like from above." Edreina wasn't entirely sure whether or not the Otani had been on the Flotilla before, but there was no harm in offering.
Heartened by her offer, Uleru smiles. "How can I resist an offer like that? You will see me again. Whenever I see this ship I know you will be here, and I will say hello." Plus the lure of sailing again is almost too much to resist. She has seen the Fllotilla before, from the barnacled underbelly of the great ships, but to go aboard and actually see it? Very few Otani would be so brave. And of course, Edreina will be there.
But this visit is almost over. She can feel the tug of the ocean calling her back below like a lover, and her empty stomach is yearning for a spry tuna or a thick red lobster. "If I see any more of my kind I'll make an effort to tell them you are off limits too, so maybe I can spare you their tricks." It wont work, she knows, but its worth a shot.
Their little sail drove them a good distance from the black finger of rock, but she can still see it. She will have to go back that way and return her chest to its cave. So she moves to the railing closest, jumping lightly onto it in preparation to dive. But looking back to say goodbye something catches her eye, and her expression, for the first time, frowns with something close to longing.
"Before I leave, can I ask a favour?" she implores, her eyes glittering like jewels. "You have lovely hair. It matches the sunset. May I have a lock to keep with my box? Just one. And I will think only good thoughts while I hold it, to bring you luck", she explains. "Please? For me? I have given you nothing for what you have taught me, and now this. So I will have to make it up to you now, wont I?" she laughs. Her eyes travel down the mane of hair, tightly bound but no less beautiful, and wishes not for the first time that she had hair of her own. Not the liquid version she can do herself, but something more solid and real. Something she can be vain about and run her fingers through. A dreamy look passes over her before she can shake the image. The first thing she will do when she gets in the water will be to mould herself the most luscious hair she can, she tells herself.
At the Otani's request, Edreina nodded and smiled brightly. "You don't need to make it up to me... You have already graced me with such lovely company... Wait right here." Edreina walked over to the hatch that separated the cabin from the elements and leaped down into the darkness. It took a moment for her to adjust to the muted light, then to locate the small, sharp knife she used to cut her food. Unbraiding her hair as she walked, Edreina crossed the small cabin and plucked the knife from the ground. Gently, Edreina took a thick strand of hair, just behind her ear and began to saw at it carefully, facing the knife away from her ear.
Once the hair was separated from her head, Edreina held it at arms' length, feeling no sense of attachment to the molten strings when had previously been a part of her. Edreina placed the end of the hair between her lips for an instant, wetting it, then tied it in a knot so that the hair would be bound together.
Smiling to herself, Edreina climbed the ladder back up onto the deck. "Here..." she said gently, offering the strand of fire to her new friend. "Just remember that you have a friend whenever you hold this. And that you are welcome upon my ship at any time..." On one horizon, Syna was descending, gently, winking goodbye to the world as Leth rose, chasing her, greeting the earth.
"Thank you", she coos, holding the lock up to catch the light. The treasure gives her a lift of wonder and a hard smack of jealousy. Since every shape and curve of her body was stolen from someone else, she has nothing uniquely hers that she can be so proud or vain about as this woman with the fiery hair. She closes her fist around it and her hand starts to creep with that same orange colour like ink spilt over parchment.
"Dont get into trouble, and I'll see you soon!"
With a wink she lets go of the rigging and hits the water with a graceless splash that seems to dislodge a disproportionate amount of spray. Hips and legs wrap together in a way that would make a hardened contortionist's stomach drop, only to melt together and reform into a jewelled tail. Uleru waves to her new friend and ducks under the water. Flashes of her glistening back peek above the waves as she makes for that tiny finger of rock, where she will find her chest and tuck away that lock of fire red hair.

Good thread you two! I enjoyed reading it a lot, and Uleru you do a great job of writing an Otani. Don't panic about the lack of lores, it's not bad, I've just undergone a bit of a policy change concerning them. If you want to earn more skills, simply do things more often, and I'll happily up the numbers a bit for or next thread.
