[Rearing Stallion] Come in & take a seat (Hadyn)

Postby Shiress on April 2nd, 2013, 4:45 am

18th Day
Spring 513AV
Closing time

Shiress placed her hand on her hip and gave her aching back a twist and stretch. It had been a busy day of meeting new friends, odd friends and down right weird folk all day. So, all in all, an albeit normal day at The Rearing Stallion.

The green eyed barmaid placed the last stool on a table top and began dragging her some what ragged broom across the wooden floor slowly making her way to the bar.

She swiped the broom across where the bar and floor met and a clinking sound brought her eyes down to a dull glint of silver. She stooped, minding her now stiff leg, picking up a small round piece of metal and played it about in her palm.

"A ring." She whispered taking in the spot where she found it. With a shrug she placed the ring on the bar and continued to sweep her accumulating dirt pile toward the tavern door.

She propped the door against her foot and with one good swipe the dirt flew out of the tavern...and onto boots.

Her eyes slowly ran up a curvy frame to meet a familiar face.

"Left it at the pub, you idiot," the blacksmith grumbled for the third time, hastily making her way back to the Stallion after work. Hopefully the place wasn't closed. Her mother would be screaming in her grave if she'd gone and lost that ring. Thankfully it appeared the lanterns were still lit. Thank the gods - though that was no guarantee the ring was still there.

Before she could open the door someone else did the honors. She was met with a busy Shiress tidying the place up for closing. Thank her stars for the familiar face. The girl quite nearly swept a sea of dust onto her boots as her eyes traveled from the ground to Hadyn.

"Perhaps I best take these boots off afore I enter the place, hm?" she glanced down at her dust clad shoes and back to the woman with a smile. "Forgive the late intrusion. I'm not 'ere to buy your last ale. Seems my head's elsewhere as I've gone an' misplaced somethin'."

So much for easing into it. Hadyn offered an embarrassed expression as she waited for Shiress to respond - hopefully not by tossing her out on her bum.

Shiress smiled once she recognized the figure. "Hadyn, right?" She asked stepping aside. "There's no need to remove your boots." Shiress laughed "There's no need to ruin perfectly good stocking's."

She pulled the door closed and stepped to the brunettes side. "Should I get you a napkin to clean your boot's? I'm terribly sorry, I wasn't expecting someone to be standing there." Shiress walked passed the woman and leaned her backside against the bar listening to her reason for her late arrival.

"What it is you have mis....Oh!" Shiress twisted around running her eyes along the bar top for the ring. Spotting the shiny silver, she scooped it up and stepped toward the brunette presenting it in her palm and smiled. "A ring?"

Hadyn followed her and shook her head at her query for the napkin. The tavern was unnaturally quiet, almost peaceful-like. The blacksmith smiled at the woman appreciatively.

"Nah, these boots have sure seen worse," she replied with a cant of her head. Her eyebrows rose as Shiress interrupted herself and walked toward her bearing the object of her distress.

"Syna bless you," Hadyn breathed as she saw her ring glinting in the faint light, resting upon Shiress' palm. "Thank you. I'd curse m'self twice over if I lost this little thing." She received the silver and slipped it back on its customary finger.

"I'm in your debt," the woman stated with an appreciative smile. "Normally I'd offer to buy you supper but seein' as you work here an' I can't cook for shyte, I'll settle with a drink - if you're willing."

Shiress gave the brunette a warm smile as she pulled the ring from her hand. She knew well the value of a ring. She held her small hand out to reveal a golden band hugging her index finger. "I too have a ring. I know how it would feel to lose such a thing."

She studied the brunette beauty as she slid the ring into place. Her face was beautiful and soft, her hair, although adorning a days worth of metal workings, appeared silky as the remaining lantern light caught hints of red and blonde strands giving it a shine. The smithy stood a good bit taller than Shiress, but there bodies were similar in frame.

Her green eyes locked against the woman's brown as she looked up. The barmaid couldn't help but notice her self confidence and poise.

Her emerald eyes fell to her own ring as her fingers twisted the gold band in place. No matter who stood in conversation with the girl her insecurities constantly searched for something to be envious about, padding her plague of self doubt.

Hadyn's invitation of a drink was met with a broad smile as the barmaids face lifted. Companionship was always welcomed and, at least for a chime, drove haunted memory away. "Yes, but your companionship will be payment in full." She smiled as she stepped behind the bar and filled two mugs to their rim then made her way to a table.

She pulled a chair from a table top and placed it upright and offered it to the woman with a nod while sinking herself tiredly in a neighboring chair.

Hadyn immediately warmed to the other woman, her geniality and hospitality a respected asset, especially in her business. While the blacksmith wasn't known for her congeniality she was always appreciative of a person with those amicable qualities. She took the proffered seat, noting Shiress' fatigue. She could open smile sympathetically, well aware of how good it felt to rest overworked muscles and tired bones.

"A lovely one," Hadyn noted, indicating to the gold ring on the other woman's finger. "Family heirloom?"

Shiress didn't appear the type to divulge her past to a near stranger but Hadyn felt a kinship with her - if only for their shared experience in a challenging workplace. She was curious how the woman ended up in Syliras. Receiving the mug of ale with a grin, she took a sip. This was the first time in a while she wasn't surrounded by rowdy men and the potential for trouble.

With the mention of her ring, her green eyes lowered to it as she placed her hand on the table and smiled. "Yes, from my mother. She gave it to me on my 14th birthday, just day's before I would see her the last time." Her words wandered from reminiscing thoughts past her lips unintentionally.

Her eyes cut quickly to the brunette. The girl smiled while positioning herself properly in the chair. She pressed her mug against her lips draining a bit of ale as her eyes scanned the dim tavern.

The wall lantern's remained lit, their lights flickering against the stone they hung on. A small flame cracked and popped in the fireplace, its warmth having long chased the chill of the early Spring night from the tavern. The flickering light and slow fire gave the empty floor of the tavern a misplaced appearance to the the barmaid.

"Odd, isn't it, to see The Stallion so empty and hear nothing of loud laughs, rowdy story telling or yelled demands." She gave another glance around the quiet room. "And no obnoxious men." She said as she gave the woman a broad, teeth revealing smile.

Her green eyes lingered on the attractive brunette a chime before going back to her mug as it lifted again to her mouth. Something about Hadyn made Shiress feel in good company.

Hadyn listened quietly, nodding in response to the short tale of Shiress' mother. No doubt a sad story behind it but it wasn't her place to inquire. As it was, the girl made quick to change the subject, which the blacksmith took with a grin.

"Aye," Hadyn replied. "Not often the place looks so barren. Can't say I miss the noise, t'be honest with you." A light chuckle at Shiress' final assessment. "The Stallion's an invitation for the obnoxious."

Looking about the place with a thoughtful expression Hadyn lifted the mug to her lips, taking a measured drink before setting it down. How many times had she made herself comfortable in this tavern for long bells before stumbling back to her cave in the wall. It wasn't exactly a place to be nostalgic about considering all the unsavory interactions, but she did feel at home here. She recalled her most recent escapade in the Stallion with one very drunk, very flirtatious Knight.

"Dunno how y'do it," she stated after a moment, returning her gaze to the lovely woman before her. "Dealin' with the halfwits frequentin' the nights here - m'self included," she flashed a grin before continuing. "Takes a strong will to handle the vagiks that y'must see every night."

"You are set far aside from the regulars that belly up to the bar my friend." Shiress replied laughing hardily before draining a good bit of ale from her mug.

"The stories they tell are more absurd than they are. Some believe themselves to be gods, wallowing in their own arrogance." The barmaid lowered her mug to the table."Those are the obnoxious ones. The ones that can boil my blood faster then the fire you soften your metal by." She gave her head a tilt and raised her eye brows in a concocted seriousness to herself. "Those are the ones you make sure leave you behind sipping your ale." Giving Hadyn a soft smile she chuckled then drained her mug.

Her head gave a playful nod in reference to quickly draining her mug, lifting her brow, she sighed with a laugh. "Not that I would ever do such a thing."

Her fingertip ran the rim of her mug, gliding through remnants of ale. "Oh the things one can do under it's effects." She chuckled softly as her fingers rubbed around the ale.

Sitting up straight, Shiress motioned toward the dwindling ale in the brunettes mug "If you have a chime, would you join me for another, Ms Hadyn?"

"I've been known to get m'self into all manner of sordid, sticky situations while inebriated," Hadyn agreed with a laugh. Finishing off the last flat sips of ale, the blacksmith nodded to Shiress' question. "Certainly do. 'Twould be good for the both of us to consider the swine that walk through these doors. I've been here a fair bit longer than you, but you see the vagiks, forgive my language, every day."

She shifted in her chair while watching Shiress. Hadyn didn't keep many close friends and even fewer of those were female. There was a whole mess of women out there that were intolerably catty and pugnacious to the point of frustration on the blacksmith's part. Women fearing the other members of their sex were out to steal their men and piss in their shoes. It confounded Hadyn, the way some birds acted in her presence - as if she somehow ranked as competition.

But Shiress was cut of a different fabric, one more akin to Hadyn. She didn't attempt to one-up her in conversation or rudely point out the qualities that somehow pushed her upon a pedestal. No, she was a hard working, humble and exceptionally candid person. And Hadyn deeply respected her for it.

"Since you must be fendin' them off all bells of the day, anyone I ought to keep an eye out for? Trouble makers an' the like?"
