Despite what many might have thought of Cyrus he actually rather enjoyed his trips to taverns. It was not that he liked the smell of stale beer and the loud uproarious attitude of most of the people there, it was more a chance for information gathering and observation. The tall man had already ordered his food yet he had not touched it, he was not particularly hungry, the order had been more for show than anything else. He had decided to seat himself in the far corner of the tavern, where he could easily look and see who came and went, as well as observe the interactions between patrons.

The muscular warrior was leaning forward in his chair, his hands steepled out before him. His massive greatsword was resting against the wall behind him, just within arms reach though it would not serve him well in here if a fight broke out. Large swords like his were meant for wide open spaces with plenty of room to maneuver the blade. The bald man was, as always, dressed in his banded mail as one never knew when armor might come in handy. It paid to be prepared for all eventualities.

The night was so far rather uneventful, nothing major really catching the ambitious man's eyes as the swept over the room. Still he was ever alert for ripples of change, one never knew when a potential asset may walk through the door.

Cyrus was certainly a power hungry and ambitious man, however that ambition was grounded in reality. He needed contacts, friends, and people he could trust in order to lay the foundations for his Imperium. The man intended to join the Syliran Knights not just because he had an admiration for their order, but because he wanted to gain access to power that could help him influence people and bring them under his sway. The path would be long and hard, but no things in life worth achieving ever came easily.

At the moment Cyrus was content to merely watch and wait, to observe all those he could in preparation for future interaction. He already possessed a charismatic personality but empires were not forged by charisma alone, nor did it effectively win hearts and minds. Intelligence was a major factor for any successful dictator, something he had in spades. Never moving when people expected, always staying one step ahead of ones rivals, this was the mark of a skilled strategist.

So he would continue to plot in silence for now, the gears of thought moving like well oiled machines in his head as they absorbed every scrap of useful information. Unfortunately, as he observed a drunk start a dreadfully off key tune he noted that there seemed to be precious little useful information here tonight.

OOC Receipt: -5 SM for the meal.

Fubuki Kouri

23rd of Spring, 20th of Bell, 513 AV

"....Awful...", Kouri spoke that out loud as she gazed at the direction of a tavern known as "The Rearing Stallion". Her remark was directed at whatever is the source for the abomination of a song that she heard, most likely coming from inside the tavern. She, used to being in a musician family, could not take this mockery of the artistic activity known as 'Singing' any longer, and with that in mind, she floated to the tavern.

Phasing through the tavern's door, Kouri's presence immediately caused some minor effects to the room, most notably is the dropping of the room's temperature. While still floating deeper into the tavern, Kouri's eyes immediately searched for the source of the abominable tune she heard. Some of the patrons looked at the strange ghost girl, mixed reactions between the lot of them, but most of them concluded that her presence does not present danger.

"LA LA LA LA!!!", the drunkard, being drunk, obviously didn't notice the semi-transparent figure approaching him with irritated look on her face and just continue 'singing' his dreadfully awful 'song'.

"Stop it...", Kouri's soft voice echoed in the room, but the drunkard paid no heed. "I said.. stop it...", still no attention given by the drunkard. Kouri wanted to explain that singing meant a lot to her and this drunkard was blatantly butchering it, but deciding that would be useless against this... this trash, this resulted in Kouri's pupils narrowing into slits, much like a reptile, and sharp black tendrils made out of Soulmist started to form around her, ready to shut this drunkard up in any moment.

Ah, a new piece upon the board, Cyrus thought at this rather unexpected turn of events.

A ghost of all things had wandered into the tavern, bringing with it a slight chilling of the room. Cyrus himself was unfortunately not as educated as he might have liked upon the subject of ghosts, he knew that they were the souls of those who had yet to pass on but little else. This disturbance was perhaps a learning opportunity, such creatures might be useful. The spirit had floated over to the rather annoying singing drunk, who was apparently tonight's bizarre attraction. She requested him to stop, was ignored and promptly formed some kind of ethereal black tendrils about her.

Cyrus leaned forward further in his seat, genuinely intrigued by this power and not really caring for the drunk or any possible harm he could suffer. Such terrible singing should be illegal anyway, the warrior noted without much of a care.

Something else clicked soon after that, this child could be useful, unfortunately if she proved malevolent it was likely the Syliran Knight would find someone to dismiss her. That would be quite the waste of a potential resource, something the warrior was not to keen on seeing happen. It was something of a skill really, the ability to assess something's worth to him in a moments time.

"You there, ghost child, you don't want to be doing that." Cyrus called out to the spirit, standing up and locking his dark eyes directly and solely on her.

If he could have he might have put a bit of Hypnotism into the words, unfortunately the ghost was too far away for his limited abilities to work. He would just have to hope she heard him in time. If not then that would be one asset down the proverbial drain.

"Kill you... I'll kill you...", Kouri whispers under her breath, figuratively of course, it's not like ghosts need to breath. "I'LL KI-"

"You there, ghost child, you don't want to be doing that."

Hearing something that she felt was directed at her, Kouri stopped her outburst for a moment and looked around. Her wandering eyes locked themselves at a human male, his features being tall, muscular, a dark stubble facial hair, and most notably, his dark eyes that seemed to be piercing at her very undead soul, but what made her stopped her murderous intent was his voice, the man's voice, deep and authoritative, much unlike her own father's voice, which was very gentle and obviously not as deep as this man.

Deciding that the drunkard was a less interesting issue than this tall man, Kouri turned her body and returned his gaze, locking her crimson eyes into his dark ones. "...Why? But, why? He... that... what he did... is... is.. unforgiveable...", Kouri stuttered her words, desperately trying to justify her act just now.

And... he also called me.. 'ghost child'?.. yes, some people I met... called me that.. 'ghost girl', 'undead', 'little ghost missy'. Kouri didn't fully understand what they meant, but she concluded that it's somehow connected to her current state and powers.

After uttering that sentence, Kouri ignored the drunkard, reminding herself to take care of that trash later, she relaxed her Soulmist, forming them into swirling circles and approached the muscular man. "...Why?", was her words just as she stopped at approximately 1 meter (3.2 feet) from the man.

How unusual... [Fabuki Kouri]

Postby Cyrus Blackfire on April 2nd, 2013, 5:25 pm

Cyrus was rather relieved that the ghost had heeded his warning, it would not do for her to be dismissed for something so simple. A creature like her had far more potential than being dismissed for killing some low life drunk, potential that perhaps he could exploit. The child was drifting towards him, stuttering a nearly incoherent mess of words though it was clear she considered what the drunk had been doing to be quite serious.

The girl was a small thing, her form possessing a strange ethereal quality that made her stand out form the corporeal people of the tavern. The features he could easily make out were her red eyes and her very light hair, though that was probably how she chose to appear. The black tendrils had relaxed and dissipated about her, forming a strange mist. He made a note to inquire about that latter.

"Why?"

It was a simple question but rather vague in its focus, much like the creature herself. He suspected she was asking why it would not have been a good idea for her to kill the drunk. It seemed like the answer was obvious but the warrior had to remind himself that this ghost was different than what he was used to dealing with. It was likely that her actions seemed perfectly logical to her, which might make this interaction a little tricky.

"If you killed that man you probably would have been dismissed from Syliras, perhaps worse. The Knights are understandable not too fond of malevolent spirits." Cyrus said at length, sitting back down.

"Allow me to introduce myself, ghost child, I am Cyrus Blackfire, a pleasure to make your acquaintance." The warrior said, smiling warmly at the floating spirit.

She was still too far for hypnosis to be effective but hopefully he wouldn't need that tonight. His expression was friendly and his tone voice less commanding than before. Hopefully he could get some useful info from this spirit, at best maybe an asset.

"If you killed that man you probably would have been dismissed from Syliras, perhaps worse. The Knights are understandable not too fond of malevolent spirits."

Kouri tilted her head to the side at that statement. Knights?... Dismissed?.. Ah... I see... Mother told me that... uuh... Kouri seemed to be thinking hard, jumbling to her memories when she was alive that uuh... killing is bad... yeah, bad, and I... I just.. tried to kill him... b-b-b-b-but what he did was unforgiveable!!! Absolutely unforgiveable!! B-but..b-but... uuuuh!! Kouri rubbed her ethereal hair, in conflict between her morals and her impulses, but in the end, she decided that what her mother said was right and abandoned her previous goal of harming the drunkard.

"Allow me to introduce myself, ghost child, I am Cyrus Blackfire, a pleasure to make your acquaintance."

That statement got her attention back to the tall man, but now, his voice was notably much more relaxed, though it still sounded deep for her. His friendly expression struck Kouri, even the simplest of positive affection has an influence on the ghost girl's mood.

....I-is he.. introducing himself?... A-ah!! I-I must be polite!, after thinking that, Kouri immediately lifted the hem of her dress slightly and bowed politely to the man. "N-n-nice to meet you, S-sir Blackfire, I-I'm Fubuki... Kouri.", hoping that she did her introduction right just like her mother taught her, Kouri put her hands behind her back and fidgeted with one of the ribbons tying her hair. O-oh! I hope he doesn't find me impolite!!

How unusual... [Fabuki Kouri]

Postby Cyrus Blackfire on April 2nd, 2013, 6:17 pm

Cyrus was internally amused by the ghost's complete change in demeanor, a minute ago she had been ready to kill a man in cold blood now she was nervously struggling to introduce herself.

How cute, the warrior thought to himself.

Her switch in demeanor was a little worrying, if she was too unpredictable she might not be a reliable asset. Still he knew very little about her at the moment so it was too early to draw conclusions. The night was still young, she may prove to be invaluable once he learned enough.

The ghost, Kouri, seemed to be nervous as though worried she had done something wrong. Despite her being a ghost it was very much apparent that she was still very much a child, which would hopefully work in his favor if it ever came down to manipulation. He kept his friendly expression up and inclined his head politely at her introduction.

"Kouri, what a pretty name for a pretty little girl, I'm sure the boys back home must have been wrapped around your little finger. Such good manners as well, your parents certainly raised you well." The man said, deciding that it would be best to address her as a child since she seemed like one.

"Why don't you join me tonight, child, I could certainly use your company." Cyrus invited warmly.

Hopefully the child would stay, he wanted very much to assess what exactly she could do, how useful she could be to him. Her powers also had him intrigued, they certainly seemed formidable.

"Kouri, what a pretty name for a pretty little girl, I'm sure the boys back home must have been wrapped around your little finger. Such good manners as well, your parents certainly raised you well."

That statement made Kouri paused in her fidgeting for a moment and after processing it, she immediately put both of her hands to each side of her cheeks, obviously embarrassed, "W-w-w-w-waaah... u-uhm... i-it's not like that.. uhm..." in truth, it's true that her friends, including boys, back in Avanthal were attracted to her mainly because of her beautiful singing voice that she inherited from her mother, her being cute certainly did help with her being quite attractive.

Kouri's embarrassed state did not last long however as the word 'Parents' were heard by her ears, her expression immediately grew forlorn as she approached Cyrus from the right (Cyrus' left), materialized her form so she can touch corporeal beings, and clung to his left arm, forgetting the fact this gesture might be seen as impolite.

"Why don't you join me tonight, child, I could certainly use your company."

"O-okay....... b-but, I-I still have to find mama.. and papa...", somewhere in her mind, she still cannot accept the fact that her parents were obviously killed by the beast. "S-so... I'm sorry if I can't stay for long..." was her reply as she leaned her head to Cyrus' muscular left arm.

How unusual... [Fabuki Kouri]

Postby Cyrus Blackfire on April 2nd, 2013, 7:13 pm

Cyrus had heard legends of the chill touch of a ghost, of how wrong it felt when touched by spirits of the dead. It certainly gave the warrior a skin crawling sensation when she touched him, it was not horrible or anything but it certainly made him feel very uncomfortable. Still he did not pull away from the girl, that would probably be a bad idea if he wanted to get some idea of what the ghost's use could be.

Instead he calmly moved his right hand over the child's head and gently patted it. Again it felt odd "touching" her but he shook off the feeling, now that she was close he could employ a little hypnotism.

Cyrus focused his Djed into his voice when he spoke next, tensing a little from the drain that he felt.

"Don't worry, child, you can trust me. Where did you last see your parents?" The seed of suggestion was there in his smooth deep voice, something that usually never registered on a conscious level.

Cyrus' command of hypnosis was limited but he could accomplish a good deal with the little he had to work with. He was no fearsome manipulator like his mother but he knew how best to employ his abilities to produce the required results. It probably wasn't necessary to use it on Kouri but a little push in the right direction never hurt anyone. Once he gained the spirits trust it would be easy to learn anything he needed to know from her. Considering how easily manipulated she seemed to be this would literally be child's play.

All the hesitation in Kouri's undead heart was washed away when Cyrus patted her head, and not just some pat, the pat was gentle and it filled her with the paternal affection she longed for. Greatly enjoying the man's gesture, Kouri closed her eyes and nuzzled her face to the man's left upper arm. It was obvious that she wanted this kind of moment to last forever, just to forget everything and be with someone that truly loved her. However, this loving moment was slightly disturbed when the man spoke, his voice felt different than usual, like there was something not normal added behind the voice. A fly in the soup, needle in the haystack, or a bean in a stack of mattresses, small and hardly noticeable, but there.

"Don't worry, child, you can trust me. Where did you last see your parents?"

It would not matter whether Kouri was affected by Cyrus' hypnotism or not for that in her current state, she will answer truthfully to whatever the question that the man may inquire. "...Papa.. and mama... umuuu... I was last with them in the.. Jungle of Falyndar... t-t-t-that's w-when.. when..." Her expression grew panicked as the memories of the beast's slaughter came back to her mind. "U-UWAAAAAH!!!!" Kouri shed a single bloody tear and screamed, much like a terrified little girl and clung even tighter to Cyrus' left arm.
