Akilia perked up and grinned when she spotted Hadyn's expression. The girl had been a little worried that the woman would scold her for angering the boys, but Hadyn didn't and Akilia was happy for that. "I was born in the Bronze Woods about six months ago." She said casually she wondered how Hadyn would take that news. It was always funny seeing the bewildered expressions. Then the girl's voice slipped down to a soft whisper, "I um...was taken care of by my mother...before she was taken from me."
Akilia's expression became guarded and unreadable, her smiling lips forming a tight thin line, her eyes glaring at the table in front of her. She began to bite her lip as she always did when she thought about her mother. Her small sharp canine tooth that stuck out of her mouth a bit drew blood and a drop of blood from her mouth plopped itself onto the table top.
She didn't usually tell anyone about her mother, but then again she hadn't met many around here that were willing to listen, or came off so nice as Hadyn did. Hadyn was the first adult since Akilia's mother that actually stuck around to help her out of a tough situation. Respect if not a tad of trust was what Akilia felt for Hadyn so far. |

Hadyn listened quietly, nodding every now and again as the girl spoke. It took a chime for the blacksmith to register the statement of her birth. Initially bemused by this fact, the woman avoided any odd or off putting reaction. As far as she knew there were several races adhering to strange and altered life cycles. Clearly Akilia belonged to one such race.
"I am sorry y'lost your mother," Hadyn replied, softening her expression as the girl became visible distressed. She could sympathize with Akilia, smiling slowly. "Y'got no one else to look after ye? siblings?"
As she spoke the food was brought to the bar, Hadyn's attention garnered by a quick whistle from the barman. Excusing herself from the table with a nod, the woman crossed the floor and picked up the two plates but not before leaving payment. Returning with mutton stew she placed Akilia's before her, the spoon sitting on the side of the plate nearly falling. Seating herself again, Hadyn set her bowl down, the delicious aroma rising to her, making her aware of how hungry she really was. Glancing at the girl over her spoon, the blacksmith took a bite before speaking again.
"Cheers." |

Akilia watched Hadyn's expression hopeful for the woman to ask Akilia her race or flip out, maybe even raise her eyebrows high in surprise. Sadly none of these happened, and a small insignificant frown touched the girl's expression. She really wanted to scowl and ask 'How come your not as rude and nosy as the rest of your kind?' But she didn't, because asking that would be rude. A small voice murmured in her head "Awe no fair! She didn't freak out!" A laugh almost escaped the girl's lips but she smothered into a stifled giggle.
So wrapped up in her head Akilia almost missed Haydn's question. The girl wasn't paying attention at the time Hadyn gave her condolences for Akilia's mother. "Do I have any siblings?" She asked herself quietly when Hadyn got up to get their food. She pondered the question in the short time Hadyn was gathering up the food; by the time the woman sat down at the table once more, placing the plate of good smelling stew in front of the girl, Akilia had an answer. "Cheers." She replied, grabbing the spoon before it could fall off the plate and stuffing a mouthful of food into her mouth. "Mmm...tis is goof" She said with food in her mouth.
She swallowed, "Nah I don't have any siblings. I take care of myself. I live out in the Bronze Woods. Its quiet and nice there, and I make a point to hunt off and on, to appease my canine nature." She paused noting she had just mentioned her Kelvic self in a way. "I'm a Kelvic by the way, a wolf Kelvic." |

Hadyn listened as she ate, making significant progress on the stew. It wasn't as good as anything from the Stallion, but this was a gambler's pit not a dining joint. And Akilia didn't seem to mind. She nodded as the girl responded regarding a lack of siblings and her race.
"T'would explain your enjoyment of the mutton," the woman replied with a glance at Akilia's bowl. Hadyn wasn't overly familiar with Kelvics, though she probably interacted with them more than she knew. But she'd never met one so forthcoming about her identity. "I'm sure you could tell by the rank scent on me, but I'm nothin' more than human."
Pausing in her inhalation of food, the blacksmith sat back and regarded the girl levelly. Akilia was young and didn't seem all too strong. But she had spirit and self assurance. That at least got you half way in this city. But living alone in the woods had its disadvantages.
"Y'got a way to make a livin' for yourself?"
It was a dumb question considering the girl likely caught her own meals. But if she was to be coming into Syliras from time to time it wouldn't hurt for her to have some coins on her person. Or a friend. |

Akilia grinned at the mention of the mutton. "I like food." She said simply, shrugging. At the mention of Hadyn being a human Akilia shrugged again. The girl already knew that when she ran into the woman out on the road. Though Hadyn smelled different from the rest of her kind, she smelled of smoke. The strong smokey smell from a fire masked her scent a bit. But thanks to Akilia's strong sense of smell though it was easy to pick out the woman's race.
"A living for myself? I do. I work in the fields off and on. I was thinking about being a hunter but...handing over nature's creatures to some greedy cheating snots of merchants isn't very appealing." Akilia responded before stuffing another spoonful of the mutton in her gullet. After swallowing Akilia regarded Hadyn thoughtfully. This lady has been asking an awlful lot of questions...maybe I should ask some of my own. "So what do you do for a living? You smell like smoke from a fire. I would assume you cooked but you don't smell of cooked food." |

"Cook? Hah," Hadyn chuckled at the thought before shaking her head. "Not a chance o' it. No, I'm a blacksmith."
There wasn't a soul in the world who wished to consume Hadyn's pathetic excuse for cooking. Being that there was absolutely no impulse to learn the art of food preparation the woman resigned herself to let others impress her with their culinary skills. Aside from skinning and skewering meat she was about as useless as a donkey at a horse race. With a smile at Akilia, the woman took a final spoonful of stew before speaking again.
"I make weapons," she clarified as she sat back, the bowl empty. "Not terribly glamorous."
The woman fell quiet, regarding Akilia with a kind eye. She was an interesting girl, to say the least. Feisty, and resilient. But city life was not like living out in the wilderness. There were folk to seek and others to downright avoid. While punching a boy in his crotch was often a useful practice in predicament, she ought not to make a habit of it. |

Akilia spent a few more moments attending to her bowl, eating like a pig. She wasn't entirely one for table manners or manners at all in this case. Finishing she wiped her sleeve across her mouth cleaning it from some lingering stew. "So being a blacksmith, and making weapons." The girl repeated to herself pondering the job. "Have you always been a blacksmith? Or do you just fancy forming steel into things that one would fear on a battlefield?"
A question worked its way into Akilia's head. Why was Haydn helping her? As always the girl's head worked in strange ways, she found it odd that anyone especially an adult would have other plans than helping a dirty wrench like her. Compassion set aside, Akilia wondered what brought this woman to set aside her daily agenda's and tell off those boys like Haydn did. Wonders put aside, Akilia had more respect for Haydn than the typical adult along with more than the usual amount of trust. Haydn didn't have to step in and defend the girl, she didn't have to offer to take her off the road and into a place like this and spend her own funds and time to get to know Akilia at all. This selflessness really sparked the girl's interest in Haydn because for all the things the considerate woman didn't have to do she did anyway.
The 'why' question came about again. This time though the girl shoved it to the back of her mind and focused on Haydn, a likely candidate for a friend.
OOCSorry for the late post! I had things going on in RL, that I had to attend to. |

The blacksmith smiled as the Kelvic inquired after her. It was evident Akilia was not used to human interaction but Hadyn was endeared by the girl's interest. Pulling one foot up and resting it flat on the seat of the chair with her knee drawn up, the woman adopted a more comfortable position by resting a forearm on the knee of the bent leg, her expression pleasant.
"I've been a smith for a long time," she answered at length. "There's a great art to it, though most wouldn't think it so. It's a challenge. An' it's never a borin' job."
Hadyn smiled at Akilia as she spoke, assessing her reaction. Not one to go out of her way for others unless the situation was dire, the brunette rather enjoyed this impromptu meeting. The girl was clever and feisty but didn't seem to have much in the way of companions. After a few moments of comfortable silence, the woman tilted her head as if studying her.
"Y'want anythin' else to eat, my friend?" |

"Wow." Akilia commented on Hadyn's occupation, upon hearing the offer for more food, the girl shook her head. "No thank you, I've had my fill." She pushed back her chair and stood up. "I have to go. I can't be late for farm work, last time I was...and well, it wasn't pleasant." She admitted with a distant remembering smile. "I hope to see you around Hadyn, and thank you for the meal. Maybe, I'll stop by sometime at your work to say hello." |

Hadyn canted her head graciously as Akilia stood to take her leave. A small smile lingered on the blacksmith's lips while the girl bid her adieu. Remaining in her seat, the woman gazed at her companion before nodding.
"I look forward to it," she replied kindly. "Keep your wits about you, hm? An' take care."
She picked the mug up for a sip, the remaining drink slated to tide her over for another few chimes. Nodding in farewell Hadyn watched the girl depart, fully expecting to see the curious, headstrong Kelvic again before the season was up. |
