Akilia 15th of Spring 513 AV |
Akilia strolled through Winthrop Alley head turned on the swivel ice blue eyes wide in amazement and mouth gaping at all the wares merchants were selling around her. Wow would you look at that! The merchants selling colored glass! Akilia stopped to take a look at the wares before moving on. A couple of boys were roughhousing nearby pushing each other and whatnot. Akilia paid them no mind and carried on her way...or tried to. One of the boys, the oldest by the looks of it and the leader no doubt, called out to Akilia, "Hey! You girl!" Akilia stopped and looked behind her which gave the boy enough time to plant himself in front of her. A few of his cronies followed suit behind him. Akilia gave the older boy a raised eyebrow and attempted to go around him, but he pushed her back. "Move." She told him forcefully gritting her teeth her little sharp tooth showing a bit. "Make me." The boy sneered pushing her back, "but awe you can't because your a weak little-" Akilia stopped his words short with a solid kick in his...lower parts. The boy bent over and wheezed out some rather foul words at her. His three friends stood there mouths agape eyes wide. "I told you to get out of my way." She told the other boys and pushed past them. She didn't have time for this, it wasn't like she had things to do or places to be, she just wanted to get out of there before things got ugly...real ugly.
She took off at a sprint and at just the right time too because she felt a fast swish of the air behind her, like someone had just made a grab for her. I can take one no problem...but all? Fat chance of me coming out on top of that one. She rounded a corner as fast as she could before sparing a quick look back. Hah I left them in the dust! They can't catch me! "Let that be a lesson to you, you pigs! Eat my dust!" Unfortunately when she looked back to where she was going she was headed straight for a woman, "Watch out!" She yelled. She was going to fast to stop right away. Oh no! |

Hadyn Skellig strode slowly down the lane, a parcel in one hand, the other pulling the cape a little closer to her person. It was still a touch too cold to be without outerwear, despite the season. She was on an errand for work to receive a parcel for a particular commission. Having fetched the item, the woman was on her way back to Sultros Blades, taking her time to enjoy the bright, albeit chilly morning. It wasn't until the girl was practically upon her that Hadyn realized the shout was directed at her.
Akilia crashed squarely into the blacksmith, causing her to back peddle until her feet found purchase on the stone. Her arms came out to steady the girl and keep her balance. The force of their impact pushed the wind from Hadyn's lungs and she dropped the package in attempt to remain upright. Pushing herself another step back, the woman looked down at the girl, a bemused if not slightly annoyed expression on her face.
"Y'alright, lass? Best watch where you're running 'round here. Most folk don't take too kindly to collisions."
Hadyn glanced above and behind the girl's head, looking for pursuers before turning her attention back for an explanation. |

After the collision Akilia got to her feet and stumbled a little dizzy and winded. That was fun... She gave a little cough, then looked at the woman she'd run into. "Oh sorry! It's just uh...er" Akilia whipped her head behind her, the boys were coming closer by the second, she looked down the other side of the street opposite of the pursuing boys. She could see them yelling as they ran some pumping their fists in the air. The woman Akilia had just run into was looking at her waiting. For an explanation for all this? She guessed. "As you can see I'm not exactly buddies with those boys. I was minding my own business when one stepped in my way, I kicked him in his...parts and ran. That brings us to where we are now me running away from his friends. It was self defense!" Akilia cried self righteously, "the boy I hit was asking for anyhow...I don't like bullies."
The boys had caught up by now and one of them stepped forward from his other two friends who where bent over hands on knees, panting. Akilia could feel there searing glares on her face. She glared back head up in the air defiantly. "Come on then." One of two behind the boy who stepped forward, said cracking his knuckles with his hands. "You scared girly?" The other behind his friend who'd stepped forward, sneered. The boy who had stepped forward paused his glaring match with Akilia shifted his gaze to Hadyn, "Hand her over please we don't want any trouble. We just have unfinished business with 'er."
Akilia at this point had moved behind Hadyn peaking her head out to the side to see what the heck was going on. "Umm...." She whispered eyes darting to the faces of the three boys. "I guess its too late to keep running..." She muttered. |

Hadyn wasn't entirely sure what was happening, her expression displaying bemusement as the girl glanced behind her. It wasn't until the smith looked up again that she heard and saw the boys in pursuit. Normally she wasn't one to involve herself - that's what the Knights were for. But seeing as there were no Knights about and the boys were not particularly interested in letting their quarry go, Hadyn took a step forward. She didn't like the manner with which they stared at the girl and the disrespect they showed Hadyn. The girl was behind her and there wasn't much to do but confront the urchins.
"That'll do," the blacksmith replied sternly. It wasn't very intimidating but it was absolute. She lifted her chin to stare at them, conviction in her tone and an unsympathetic visage. Hopefully they would see the folly in their actions and turn tail. "You boys best be off."
Honestly they were running the risk of a Knight making rounds nearby. Likely they could do the girl some damage and they may get a few strikes at Hadyn but she was hardly concerned with that. For all her clumsiness the girl's safety appeared to be in jeopardy and while Hadyn was no intentional hero, she wasn't about to turn a cold shoulder to the child's plight. |

Akilia smiled when the woman stepped forward and faced the boys. Well that's a relief after my savior tells em off then I'll thank her real quick I guess then I'll be off. The girl nodded to herself, yes that's what'd she do and felt more comfortable with the whole situation now having some sort of plan.
The boy who stepped foward in front of his buddies glanced about a bit nervously. "Fine have her." He told Haydn waving a hand in dismissal as if he didn't care. Then he turned his head to the side looking at Akilia, "watch your back girl, cause we'll sure be watching you." Then he turned and walked away his friends following down the road, back to jeering at each other roughhousing.
"Creeps." Akilia muttered sticking her tongue out at the backs of the retreating boys. "But of no good lazy stuck up cowards they are. And they posses no sense either." She stepped out from behind Hadyn giving the woman a abashed smile. "Sorry for that mess. And thank's for the help." The girl held out her hand, "I'm Akilia, Akilia Dosert. Its nice to meet you." Your supposed to hold out your hand when introducing yourself right? She wondered, she remembered seeing people around here doing it, should she? |

Somewhat surprised her paltry request was acquiesced, the blacksmith waited until the vagiks were out of sight before turning to the girl. She was a little thing, albeit feisty. Hadyn couldn't help but soften her expression, seeing some memory of herself in the candor of the girl.
"Akilia," the woman repeated, grasping her hand for a single shake before releasing it. "I'm Hadyn. And 'twas no skin off my back," she replied in reference to her assistance with the boys. Leaning down to pick up her parcel, Hadyn eyed Akilia as she straightened. She was awfully thin and likely wouldn't be any match for the petulant urchins were they to corner her again. Best get her off the street for a few bells. Besides, the brunette was feeling somewhat charitable this morning.
"With all that runnin' you must've worked up an appetite, hm? how 'bout I buy you a bite afore those boys return," she canted her head in the direction of the Docks. It probably wasn't the wisest idea to take a girl to the Spinning Coin, but it was just early enough that perhaps the place wasn't infested with the swine of Syliras drinking themselves into oblivion. Hadyn wasn't in the mood to make the trek to another establishment to purchase food and drink. With a noncommittal smile, the blacksmith waited for Akilia to follow, turning her body in the direction of the gambling house. |

"I'm Hadyn. And 'twas no skin off my back."
After the shake and upon hearing Hadyn introduce herself, Akilia nodded.
"With all that runnin' you must've worked up an appetite, hm? how 'bout I buy you a bite afore those boys return."
Food? Free food? Alright! "Sounds mighty good to me Hadyn." Akilia said smiling. She followed closely behind Hadyn twisting her head around for a few steps to make sure that those rowdy boys weren't following. They weren't and she relaxed soon forgetting to watch her back. When her blue eyes cat upon the Spinning Coin they went wide in wonder. It was a warehouse she noticed and there was a foul smell wafting from it. She plugged her nose and coughed a little, curse her oversensitive nose. It was as strong and as sensitive as her Kelvic wolf form. So the scent coming from the spinning coin was downright awful, it smelled of pigs, dogs, and many unwashed bodies mixed in with alcohol. "The stench from that place...could kill the forest itself." She joked looking up at Hadyn. "Can't you smell it? Its overpowering. Well...most of the city is but that's worst. Never mind me though, I'll deal." |

Hadyn swallowed a tinge of regret as they made their way to the infamous Spinning Coin. Probably could've picked a better location to take the girl, inconvenience aside. As it was Akilia seemed more and more uncomfortable as they walked, remarking upon it from beside her. Hadyn paused to look down at her before opening the door and letting her pass.
If the outside smelled bad the inside was a complete assault on the senses. Smoke filled every crevice, the stench relatively light compared to the evening but appalling nonetheless. The sound of laughter, coughing and bodies shuffling encouraged a feeling of claustrophobia. There weren't too many folk milling about and the two wouldn't garner much attention. As it was Hadyn thought she spotted a Knight within the establishment. Frankly, the place didn't bother the blacksmith too much, though she imagined it was quite the experience for a new comer.
Making a direct line to the limited amount of tables, Hadyn indicated to Akilia to take a seat. With her eye on the girl, the brunette walked to the bar, leaning over to catch the barman's attention. After hastily ordering, she returned to the table, seating herself opposite the girl.
"Hope you don't mind mutton," she stated with an apologetic grin. She rubbed the back of her neck, pursing her lips as the girl's earlier comment weighed upon her. "Not the cleanest of places, I know. But the food won't make y'sick." She winked at Akilia with another smile. "So then, how'd you manage to piss those lads off?" |

Akilia walked through the open door Hadyn held open and gave a polite nod of thanks to the kind woman. A wave of nausea hit her on the spot and she gritted her teeth determined not to let herself puke. It wasn't that bad though, the stench of the place singed her nostrils yes, but it wasn't enough to upset her stomach to the point of vomiting or make her dizzy enough to pass out. People filled the place but not enough for it to fill too cramped. Its probably worse at night. She guessed looking around. There were people laughing, passed out on tables, playing games, and betting. Some were holding their heads with one hand and a cup with the other. There was hearty laughter in the air as well as the occasional drunken groan. She liked it, it had a certain feeling to it that was almost homey even. Almost...but not quite.
Akilia caught Hadyn's eye as the woman directed the girl to take a seat at a table. Sitting she waited as Hadyn took their orders and reappeared on a seat of her own across from Akilia. At the mention of a food called mutton, Akilia shrugged, "I'm not picky, food is food. And I rather like this place, it has a sort of welcoming homey, rowdiness to it." She replied flashing a smile of her own. Her nose had become used to the reek of the place so she hardly noticed it anymore.
Upon Hadyn jumping on the topic of the boys who were chasing her earlier Akilia smirked. "Oh those boys. Well I have you know I was just minding my own business walking down the road. They were joking around on the side of the street pushing each other and roughhousing as boys do. It was my first time walking down that district too and I was walking past them. Then the biggest of the brutes stepped in my way." Akilia paused seemingly lost in thought for a second and twirling her dark hair around her finger before continuing. "He threatened me so I hit him where it hurt. Then took off his cronies chasing me and I ran into you." |

Hadyn assessed the girl as she spoke, nodding here and there. A smirk spread across her lips at the mention of striking the boy below the belt. A tried and true method of defense, provided you could flee the scene shortly thereafter. The woman smiled again, a hand resting on the parcel that sat on the table near her.
"Glad they didn't see fit to harass you further," she commented when the girl fell silent. After a chime of silence the blacksmith spoke again. "You from these parts? or just passin' through?"
While Akilia seemed comfortable enough in the city she could easily be a traveler. It was difficult to tell at times. She hadn't mentioned a family but Hadyn decided not to ask. If she wanted the woman to know she would tell her. The brunette sat back in the chair to wait, brown eyes keeping tabs on the patrons around them. Ever vigilant for trouble Hadyn glanced back at the girl to indicate her attention. |
