Eleret held still as Khal reached forward, going all but cross-eyed as her gaze followed his hand up towards her hair. "I think it is more vines than the boulders, if they are giving me leaves," she remarked dryly, smiling at her cousin. "Thank you."
The Konti then watched him turn and start working sticks out of the ceiling, her eyebrows rising as he did so. "Do you really think --" But that statement was interrupted as a shift in the covering foliage abruptly directed a puddle of collected water into their shelter. It wasn't a lot of water, in absolute terms -- but it made Eleret's point, as it showered down upon them both.
"Khaaal..." she chided, half laughing as she ducked her head and raised her arms. It was a rather ineffective reflex for shielding herself from water, but the fact that she was still holding her cloak helped somewhat. After the initial splash, the disruption the Akalak had made left several gaps where water continued to drip, running off the foliage higher up. "I think you did not better things," Eleret remarked dryly. Standing back up, she studied the tangle of debris and started attempting some rearranging of her own. At the least to patch or divert the drip above her corner.
"Thank you," she said again, as the conversation once more turned to serious matters. "I have letters," the Konti continued, scraping up old, half-decayed leaves from the floor which were rapidly becoming filmed with mud as the dirt collected on them absorbed water. They smelled rather unpleasant, too -- but she stuffed them in the hole anyway. "She sent them from Syliras, and Riverfall. So I will go to those cities, after here." |

"Ack!"
The violet-skinned warrior suddenly realized the error of his selection in fire-starting materials and was punished for it by a flood of water colliding into his ebony locks. He quickly stepped as far away from the opening in the ceiling as he possibly could, huddled himself in his corner (that was soon to be plagued by the small pool of water) and then set about preparing their fire. Though he had made a mistake, and the legs of his pants were now paying for it, at the very least they had a fire to rely upon for warmth...he just hoped that the storm wouldn't last much longer.
"M-My apologies." he stammed slightly, rubbing his damp locks half-heartedly. Yet shortly after his cousin's laughter had subsided, their conversation returned to the matter at hand: Eleret's missing sibling. The Akalak silently listened to her words regarding the letters she possessed and the cities they were sent from. Upon hearing the word Syliras, a sour expression found its way upon the warrior's countenance. He had ventured there before coming to the marine city, and he was not treated especially well. Though the city itself opened its doors to any traveler, there was an air of racism so prevalent that Khal'iah made his stay exceptionally brief.
"Syliras." he spat, but composed himself and set his wrathful thoughts aside. "Well...hmm...depending upon when you leave, I may be able to accompany you to the capital. The roads are dangerous, plagued with wolves and the like, and you'd be much safer traveling there if I came along. From there...well...I have no intention of staying in Syliras again so we may have to part ways briefly." |

Carefully moving her hand away from the patched hole, Eleret studied her handiwork. It didn't drip so badly now, only an intermittent leak that she felt confident no amount of fussing would stop. Since there wasn't a lot of other space in the shelter to move over into, she settled back down and worked her partially-wrung-out cloak up over herself where it could sop up any further water which got through.
The Konti tilted her head as she sensed her cousin's mood shift, from an odd blend of thyme and apple -- what she felt to be contrition and general contentment -- to a bitingly sour scent with almost metallic overtones. When Khal voiced the city's name, that only put shape to the opinion her gift detected. "There is a problem with Syliras?" Eleret asked, curious, wondering if there was new information about the city that she lacked.
"I think... maybe this summer, that I will go," she continued. But Eleret left out that her previous traveling companion would not be going; Sybel had expressed intentions to go straight on to Riverfall before too much longer. "Not sooner. But you do not need to come, if the city does not suit you. It will be well." |
