"Well keorvic my friend, you should not underestimate me. I might not be much of a hunter, but I am quite fast and my claws are sharp!", Dryn said with a smile. Drynhwyvar never seemed to be without a smile upon his lips. He heard the woman call to Keorvic, "It seems your...friend, awaits your presence.", he said with a wink. "I'll join you again soon! Where have you set up camp? I should need to know if I am to accompany you, yes?", Dryn bellowed as he steadily trudged on through the trees, not waiting for an answer. Dryn would find the camp either way.
Dryn decided to see if there were any noticable tracks, but all he found were light scuffs in the dirt. A more experienced tracker might have been able to identify and follow them, but Dryn didn't spend much time in the forest. Dryn's adventures usually led him through alleyways and vast cities, not such wild terrain as the forest he was now in. He decided he might be able to spot a herd of deer or maybe a lone wolf from a better vantage point. He searched for a tree with low hanging branches and quickly climbed up. The view he gained from atop the tree was beutiful. The forest canopy cascade across rough paths. Pines dipped and swayed with the wind, gently skimming the small river Dryn had just enjoyed. The view was not only beutiful, it was rewarding! Dryn quickly spotted a herd of deer grazing in a small clearing. Excited, Dryn lept, grabbed a lower branch and swung off of it. He landed with minimal sound, due to his well worked, black leather boots.
Dryn rushed off comfortably on both his arms and legs. His slightly elongated arms let Dryn dryn run like a wolf, hunting his prey. The tall trees whipped past him, dappling him in sun rays. When he reached the clearing, he quietly peeked through a small juniper bush. The grazing deer didn't suspect anything, it seemed. Dryn rushed from the bush into the clearing and sighted a large buck, apparently the alpha because it turned on him and lowered his antlers while pounding the ground with his hooves. Dryn sighted the main arteries and muscle masses, all the while methodically planning his attack.
The buck charged with fury in his eyes and Dryn lowerd into a crouch. Dryn dashed past the bucks right side while it whirled and bucked in anger. Now it was Dryn's turn to charge, he ran at the buck and slid on the grass, aiming at it's front hooves. The buck rammed into the ground and soon the symenestran was on top of the buck, holding him with his knees. Dryn bit the buck and waited until the venom took effect. Dryn is only half symenestran so his venom only liquified the buck's insides and sedated it. Out of kindness, he ended the deer's torment and pinpointed an area on the animal that would kill instantaneously, thrusted his claws into its throat, twisted , breaking its neck and killing it. His chest heaving, 'I just killed a deer...I just killed it! Easier than dealing with rough inn keepers I would think!' he thought. He let out a long hearty chuckle and rolled onto his back to rest on the grass.
After a short rest, Dryn hefted the heavy buck onto his shoulder and sluggishy trudged away to find camp. Dryn could feel his catch become soft, Dryn would eat well for the first time in days... |
