After several feeble attempts to coax Kanri into a conversation, it seemed obvious that she was lost in her thoughts. She watched as Kitchi had also tried to stir up conversation but it was met with silence. Enria looked over at the girl who seemed lost in her thoughts. She had seemed to have fallen silent when Strig had showed off his arm and seemed to have drifted off in her own thoughts; maybe she was raking over that moment again and again in awe, like they all were. But something made Enria that maybe Kanri had felt pushed out; she had seemed to fly in at their conversation at an awkward moment and seemed to push her way into the conversation. Perhaps, Kanri wanted to be left alone to her thoughts. Enria hesitated for a few moments before she tried one last ditch attempt.
“Hey,” Enria called softly to the girl, so as not to seem rude and overbearing to her.
No answer. Enria fought the urge to wave a hand in front of the girl’s face. Kanri it seemed could not be coaxed from her daydreams; instead it seemed that she was lost in her own world. Enria turned her attention back to her half eaten soup and began to slowly eat it; the feeble conversation slowly dwindling into silence which seemed awkward and uncomfortable. Especially since the surrounding tables jeered with laughter and chattered of other Inartan folk. Enria almost wanted to pick up and relocate to one and immerse herself in mindless chitter-chatter for a while. But she stayed planted to her seat and concentrated on finishing her soup.
After scraping up the last morsel of her soup, Enria stood and turned back to Kanri. The girl still had paid no attention to her or Kitchi since before Strig had left; and Enria doubted she’d notice if she and Kitchi left.
“Kitchi, come on we need to do that….thing.” Enria said as she tried to excuse her and her friend, though it was a shallow excuse. “It was nice to meet you Kanri, perhaps we’ll cross paths another day.”
Enria and Kitchi got up and left Kanri alone at the table; though Enria had a feeling that it wouldn’t be long till their seats were filled. After a few minutes of talking to Kitchi and arranging to catch up at some point, the two went their separate ways; Enria had gone for a short walk, her mind still churning up thoughts over Strig’s abrupt departure; if she ever met him again, she’d try to ask why he left because she was pretty sure that feeling tired was only an excuse for him to leave.
