Rengar was moving through the stalls of the market, several huge logs, bound together, being held on his shoulders. His muscles strained and bulged under the weight as he wove his way through the crowd, thankful there weren't many tall Inarta. The lumber easily passed over most of the redheads, as Rengar took step after careful step. As an Avora woodsman, he was hand delivering an order for a man named Vincent. He made bows and arrows for the citizens of the mountain, and needed very particular woods. This particular order was mostly ash, yew, and maple, all straining to break from the wrapped bundle. But Rengar wasn't sure where the man's stall was, considering Market Day was quite a busy affair.

Well, we heard that he was a master at his craft, so wouldn't he be in the middle ring? Our target is right in the bullseye.

Rengar rolled his eyes at his brother's observation. While it was interesting, considering he'd never noticed that the market was set up in such a way that was akin to an archery target, he's brother's attempt at wordplay was childish.

You're childish Rengar, I'm hilarious.

Rengar was getting tired of searching for this Vincent man, and began looking around for someone to ask. One of the axe's hanging from his belt, struck a person with its handle. Not hard, just enough for Rengar to notice. He turned and saw a little girl, who couldn't be older than eleven or twelve. He smiled down at her, yet another reminder of his daughters back in Mura, and of Oriana's paw prints on his chest. He crouched down low, careful to maintain his balance and keep the wood from slipping off his shoulders. He looked her in the face, "I'll buy you something if you can tell me where the Bulls Eye stall is, run by a man named Vincent. I'm a little lost, and have trouble with Nari."

A Pinion for Your Opinion (Aose, Lavira)

Postby Lavira on April 12th, 2013, 7:12 pm

The long week had finally ended and Lavira was excited to get down to the market place and see if Graven had any new hoods in stock this time. She’d missed him last period when restocking that week’s rations. Her hair was pulled up in a high bun instead of the straight braid this time and several strands were already starting to come loose as she sat upon an empty crate beside one of the fruiters stalls. Tulaj was perched on a post next to her, his hood off, and those mean eyes surveying not the crowds but his keeper as she picked at a rabbit leg from a smokers stall. What he wanted was quite clear, and thusfar the woman had been good about sharing with him for she knew what he would do if she did not.

Lavira picked another piece off as she watched the woodsman the city knew as Rengar make his way through the throng of the outer circle. There was no particular reason to stare at him other than he was a purple skinned man. Akalak’s and their skin tones, sheesh. A shriek from the albino beside her at least brought her attention back to him and the waiting foot that was extended towards her bracer-bound right arm. Rolling her eyes, she said, “Fine, you ornery thing.” She raised her arm towards Tulaj and he stepped deftly onto the thick material, already leaning down to the almost cleaned bone in her left hand. She offered it up to him and almost gave his crest a tweak when the harrier took a nip at her middle finger. “Determined to take that nail aren’t you?” She muttered with pursed lips.

The young lady got to her feet then and began moving through the throng, passively browsing as she headed in the direction of Winging Away. She was just about to pass Rengar when he stopped and spoke to a child on his other side. The little Yasi wasn’t familiar to Lavira, and Rengar himself wasn’t a known entity other than a name and description many of the residents would know; so it wasn’t their presence that brought the Chiet to a halt and turn towards him (a broad enough turn since he was on her left side and the milky eye could not see him).

“The Bull’s Eye?” she asked, yelping lightly again when the damnable harrier bit pinched those claws more tightly into her wrist. Her eyes left the two to scowl at Tulaj again. She spoke next in a series of clicks, trills, and nasal whistles to the pallid bird that perched upon her sontav, waggling one finger in front of that wicked white beak.

-If you don’t stop this rotten behavior this second I’m going to feed you to the fledglings, do I make myself clear, Tulaj? After all I’ve done for you, this wickedness is completely uncalled for. It’s Market day for pete’s sake!-

Once the harrier had settled back upon its perch and resumed eating the bone and meat bits she’d given him, she turned back to the child and hunter. “I’m going down to Winging Away; Vincent’s stall’s not far from there, I can take you there. You can come too, little Yasi; I need to get some things from Graven and could use an extra hand.”

Aose scowled at the man's hammer as she rubbed her shoulder a bit, “Sorry I don't know where the Bull's Eye is... I am only trying to run an... err.. errand here,” Holding up a small basket with a few parcels wrapped in paper and tied off with twine. The smell of raw meat emanating from the packages. “You, mister, should be watching were you are walking, could poke someone's eyes out with that thing.” The young girl tapped the man's hammer.

Hearing the next person speak Aose turned her gaze slowly first to the direction of the person and then up to look her in the face, “Do I look like a Dek to you? Can't anyone see I am already holding a package? I got a deliver to make!” And some Eagle Hatchlings to feed.

Aose started up the walkway again before pausing and looking down at her small basket, “Who am I kidding?” She turned back to the other two, “Let me run these down to the aeries and back. Then I will come and help you out, okay?” Without an answer the yasi took off towards the aeries, determined to feed the birds their morning meal and then return.

A Pinion for Your Opinion (Aose, Lavira)

Postby Rengar on April 16th, 2013, 7:42 pm

Rengar's nose wrinkled at the extremely strong scent of meat and blood permeated his space. While he was thankful for Oriana's gifts, occasionally it made things he'd rather not smell more prominent. He eyeballed the fiery little girl, who was apparently on a delivery, and had no interest in the bribes that normally worked on children. All work and no play with her it seemed. It saddened him a bit, while it was good to be industrious, children still needed to enjoy their childhood. And she was gone as quickly as she'd appeared. He'd need to find a way for her to enjoy herself, something that wasn't work, even if it was training in disguise like they did back home.

Since the Yasi disappeared, he was left with the woman who offered to help, a woman that was blind in one eye. But he was more interested in the white creature perched on her arm. He'd never gotten along particularly well with birds, which probably had something to do with him finding no enjoyment in riding on a Wind Eagle. Since he couldn't attempt to pet the creature with the logs on his shoulders, he settled with, "What's its name? And yours?" Then Garren forcefully took over, "I'm Garren, and I quite appreciate a beauty like you going out of her way to help me. Since our little Yasi friend left us, I suppose I could give you a hand in exchange for the help you've given me." Rengar sent his brother feelings of annoyance. But Garren could never resist women, which wasn't a bad thing, considering the many children they'd sired. A proud feat for their race. Inwardly, 'Just don't scare her off brother, that's all I ask.'

Vira regarded the girl and her blunt, not-quite offensive tone with a raised eyebrow. "A package that could just as well have been for yourself and not another." The older one replied. "But if you'd rather not earn a couple pinions..." She shrugged and turned back to Rengard with an innocent enough smile. "Yasi." That was all could be said on that matter.

When the Akalak asked of her birds name, she thought for a moment, reaching out with the same hand she'd waggled in front of his beak to now stroke his round head affectionately. But before she could respond, he was already giving his name and compliments, to which the Chiet laughed at brusquely. "His name is Tulaj. Mind how you call him; or look at him; or stand near him for that matter. He's not exactly the sweetest thing, Gnora knows why. I'm Lavira, and I think the kid'll come back, but we'll see. Nice to meet you, Garren."

She turned again, putting herself on the mans left to keep him in sight and gestured towards one of the broader openings leading into the inner circle. "This way." And off the woman went, chirping to Tulaj once and then giving her arm a raise overhead to get him clear of the crowds and herself. Once there was room, the harrier stretched his pale wings and took off (another scowl of displeasure crossing Vira's face as the bird took flight.). As soon as he was airborne, rising up over the heads of the market day throng, the maiden lowered her arm again and rubbed the spot he must've pinched. "I swear he means to leave me full of holes. You know, I found him staring down at me from a doorway once, and if I didn't know any better, he was plotting how best to take out my other eye."

She led the way to the inner circle entrance, stopping at Hias and Jan's stall to wait in line. "Give me a moment, if you don't mind. I need to pick up some honey and corn. I want to test something with Tulaj when summer begins. Dunno if it'll work, though, he's such a...particular bird."

Aose returned to the pair that she left in a hurry; it was nearly a full bell since she had left and finally returned. “Sorry for the rush, I had to get that meat to the aeries; there were a few hungry hatchlings to feed.” The yasi nodded and smiled, “Then again, it has been a talk of the city, those two hatchlings being born.”

Looking at the bird, the half-blind woman, and the large purple man Aose smirked, “What you got planned for the wood big guy? And a peculiar bird huh? Sounds to me more like a peculiar owner trying to put their oddities into their pets.” The young girl shrugged, she knew little about birds as it was, but she was hoping to learn soon enough.

Just have to learn to understand the birds. Aose thought, adjusting her quiver of arrows that held nearly two dozen arrows and the bow minus the string in it, the string was coiled up tightly, wrapped in a cloth to keep it from drying out, and fitted snugly in the pocket of her quiver.

“So what now?”

A Pinion for Your Opinion (Aose, Lavira)

Postby Rengar on June 3rd, 2013, 10:01 pm

Garren followed beside Lavira, taking the time whenever her vision wasn't on him to check out her backside. Tight, firm, but not too muscular. Not too small, not too big, a good squeeze if he could ever be allowed to get his hand there. He pictured her on her knees before him, him taking her from behind, squeezing her tight, bare buttocks all the while making her moan his name. Garren loved to hear his name from the lips of women he was petching.

He was snapped out of his fantasy as he heard the bird take off, watching it as it went. Garren had wanted to respond to her snippet about being watched with a clever comment about him filling her holes, but Rengar stopped him.

Brother, the best thing for you to do when you're picking up women is to speak less. Less is most certainly more for you.

Garren ignored his comment, but took the advice nonetheless. After all, he wanted this woman now, and he wanted her bad. He waited next to her, as she gathered some purchase or other, and just as he was about to speak to her again, that child showed up.

Figures, can't win for losing on timing.

Rengar took over, making a mental agreement to give the reins back when the woman was involved. He smiled down at the child, "I'm delivering it to a man named Vincent, a bowyer. He needs very particular woods to make bows and arrows. Firm yet flexible, to be able to bend without breaking, with good long grains and no spoiled spots. Rengar noticed a stand with bows just beyond the little girl, and relinquished control back to Garren. "One second Lavira, I think I found what I was looking for," then he winked at her, "And I also found the man I was making the delivery to."

He made his way over to the bowyer, who smiled, knowing why he'd come. Garren carefully laid the wood behind the man's stall, and as he turned to leave, "Wait one second woodsman." Garren stopped, and the man took one of his hands, and began examining the palms. Garren was about to tell the man off, but Rengar warned him not to, told him to just let him do his thing. The man's fingers felt his callouses, noting their locations as well as every detail of them. "Yes, you have the hands of one who works with a wooden handle often, but never a bow. But you could, and not one of those little ones either. A proper longbow, suited to your height and wingspan. I could sell it to you, bow, quiver, arrows and all. All it will take is for you to test the pull. You look strong, shouldn't be too difficult for a big guy like you."

The man pulled out a huge longbow, almost as tall as the man was, and handed it to Garren. Gripping it firmly, Rengar noticed the slightly heavier than expected weight, "This is yew isn't it?" Garren tried to test the pull, not even holding it in proper form. The pull was strong, and he had to strain and grunt just to get it back a few hands.

"Good eye, it is one of the largest bows I've made to date. It looks the right size for you too. Fits your hand, the pull suits you, it will get easier as you learn it, I promise. Lets say a hundred pinions for the bow, fifty for the quiver, and one more cherry on top for the arrows. I know you will buy it, I can see it in your eyes."

Garren wasn't so used to being driven so fast or quick into a purchase, but he leapt at it. He gave the man the pinions and received the gear. He turned to the child and Lavira, "Well now, my duty is done, shall we go get some fresh air, so I can get to know you better, maybe try this out if I get a moment? I'd love to learn more about you Lavira. And you too child."

A Pinion for Your Opinion (Aose, Lavira)

Vira spoke with Jan quickly, haggling over a pound of honey and two pounds of millet. She managed to get the price down enough to part with only 2 pinions, slapping the others palm once the deal was struck and handing off the feather-like coins. While she waited for the honey and millet to be divvied up, Vira turned eyes on the Akalak, watching him silently from afar as he bought supplies from the bowyer.

He was certainly an unusual man, his amethyst skin and surly frame a smart contrast to the Inartans that called Wind Reach home. She could not deny his handsomeness, however; nor she avoid laughing a little as she watched him try to pull the bow the shopkeep offered. He'd have to take lessons from someone, that's for sure. Her archery was awful, but at least she still had the strength to draw the string.

When Aose returned, remarking on the very hatchlings Heshvala had hatched midseason, Vira's brows raised in surprised delight. "You must have Bendi in the stocks this period. I work in the aeries with the mothers; it's Vala whose hatchling's you speak of."

Vira was about to offer the kid the opportunity to visit the new eaglets when the quip about her bird came. Whatever opportunity there might have been was quickly lost as the chiet responded harshly, "Watch what you say of the birds you know nothing of, Yasi, or you may find yourself shovelling shyke." Tulaj was just psycho and anyone who'd had the unpleasant privilege of being around the bird when Vira wasn't there to temper his weirdness knew this.

Once Garren returned to their company, Vira's harsh gaze moved back to him, that fierce star not that much different from the eagles she was around day to day. "I'm glad you found what you needed, Garren. I've got one more stop to make and then I'll be done. I'm not much good with a bow, though. I wanna see if I can't get some training in with one of the masters, though. Kovac showed me some techniques to help me compensate for blind side."

She moseyed away then, heading for Gaven's stall this time to begin talking about trading up. The albino not being with her now, however, Vira did not get quite as good a price as she might have otherwise, but the falconry gearman knew the teen well enough to not be outrageously priced today. She parted with six pinions for two jesses and a hood, tucked them into the bag with the millet just for storage, and then rejoined the pair. "All finished. Where should we go?" That pleasant smile returned, sourness passed after dealing with the bird-favoring falconer.
