Bedside Manners (Solo)

Time Stamp: 42th day of Summer, 509AV
Location: Avanthal, Whitevine Healing Center
Who: Iosha, solo

Iosha glanced Seiled Whitevine out of the corner of her eye as she noticed he had been standing at the door since the patient arrived. She turned her attention to the patient sitting on the table. Seiled been telling her she needs to work on her bedside manner, so she gives the large Vantha male a warm smile, “Hello I am Iosha Moonchaser, and I will be treating you today.” The human looked at her and said impatiently, “Iosha this really hurt. Just treat my wound, so I can go.” Iosha nodded and walked over, and she gently unwrapped the dirty haphazard bandage from his leg. When the wrapping is removed, she noticed the cut is three inches long across side of his leg. It wasn't a deep cut, but around the wound the skin under the was starting to swell. Iosha frowned to herself and ask to him, “Jirvus, Do you remember how you got this cut?” The human looked at her and said with sigh, “I was walking through the North Reaches tracking a elk, and I must been climbing over a fallen tree, and suddenly, I felt pain and saw my leg bleeding. Honestly, I didn't think much of it since it wasn't too deep, so I wrapped it up and continued on my way. I didn't notice the throbbing pain in my leg till the next day. It was red and hot, so I came to the clinic to get it fixed.” Luckily he did have the sense to clean the dirt out of the wound before putting the bandage on. Also, the wound wasn't too deep to need stitches. She smiled to herself at her observation this will made her job much easier. Iosha straightened up and gave him smile, “Well you made the right decision. You cut is starting to become inflamed, and I am going to clean your wound before it becomes infected.” She could clean it with her gnosis mark, but she decided to clean it the normal way first than clean it with the help of her goddess. She walked over the supply cabinet and takes out fresh roll of gauze, rubbing alcohol, and scissors. She put the supplies on a tray, grabs her stool, and sat it down in front of him. She sat on the stool to get a closer look at the wound. She cut about two inches of gauze and picked up the bottle of rubbing alcohol. She looked up at Jirvus and warned him, “Warning you ahead of time this will sting.”

She opened the bottle, put the cloth on the top of the bottle, and quickly tipped the bottle letting the alcohol soak the fabric. She tipped it back and puts the glass cork in the bottle. Reaching out she firmly held his leg to stay in place, and she brought the wet piece of gauze to his leg, and she gently started wiping the wound. She felt his muscles tense up, but he didn't seem to show any signs of weakness. When she is done cleaning the wound with the alcohol, she brought her hand to his leg and said a quiet prayer to her goddess, “Rak'Keli, I am Iosha your servant. Please grant me the power to cleanse this man's wound.” The mark started to glow slightly and Iosha whispered thank you to her goddess. She looked at the wound, and some of the inflammation goes down, but it looked much better than before. She stood up from the stool and smiled at Jirvus. He gave her a nod of approval and said to her with a laugh, “Whatever you did healer. The throbbing seemed to go away, so can I go?” Iosha shook her head, no and said to him, “I want to mix you a poultice just in case the inflammation comes back, and I want you apply it once a day to you cut until its gone. I'll mix you enough for one week, but I can always make more just come back to the clinic after a week, so I can see how it is healing.”

Iosha walked to cabinet and pulls out a mortar, pestle, bag Linseed flax seeds, and measuring cup. She remembered from studying at the Library of Mura that Linseed flax is used for boils, inflammation, and wounds. She smiled up at Seiled at the door and says in a soft voice, “Can you get me some warm water, Sir?” The other doctor gave her a nod slowly and turned and walks away. She measure out the amount of seeds need for a week with a measuring cup. She poured it into the mortar and used the pestle to grind the golden seeds into a fine powder. She looked at Jirvus and decided to make small talk while she waits for Seiled, “So you ever find the elk you were looking for in the forest?” Jirvus leaned back on the wall and shook his head, “Nope, I lost it when a snow storm hit. Honestly, I hate my petching luck. It is irritating and unreliable.” She nodded to him and sighed, “I am sorry to hear that maybe I will have to try again in a few weeks.” Seiled came back with a tea kettle of water, and he sat it down on the counter. He turned around, walked back to the door frame, and watched them.

Iosha used a towel to pick up the tea kettle, poured it into the measure cup, filled it to the amount needed for the mixture. Once the konti poured the hot water into bowl, she started mixing the seeds and the water together into a fine thick paste. She sat down the mortar and pestle, and she walked to the cabinet and grabbed a sterile wood container. She brought the container to the bowl and started dishing the poultice into the container. She made sure she saved enough poultice to apply on the wound right now. Iosha picked up the mortar and walked over to Jirvus. She knelt down and gently started applying it to the wound. She sat the empty bowl on the metal tray, and picked up the role of gauze. She lifted up his heavy leg and started firmly wrapping the gauze around his leg. Once the gauze was tied tightly, she cut off the remainder of the gauze. She noticed the other end of the gauze sticking out, so she tucked it under the bandage away from the wound. Iosha stood up with the tray and asked Jirvus, “Is the bandage too tight? I can fix it if it is.” Jirvus shook his head, no, and he jumps of the table. He smiled up at her and said with a laugh, “I'll be dancing in no time, Iosha, so what you doing tonight?” Iosha stared at him for a moment and giggled lightly to herself, “Sorry, Jirvus. I just started my shift, and no dancing just try to take it easy for a week week.” Jivi smirked at her and said with a nod. He started to walk to the door, and Seiled moved into the room. Jirvus stopped says with a laugh without turning around, “The offer will always stands, Io.” Iosha stifled a laugh and said to Jirvus, “Goodnight Jirvus. See you in a week.”

When Jirvus left the room, Iosha turned to Seiled and asked him, “So has my bedside manner improved?” The human doctor leaning on the wall with his arm crossed said with a nod, “Yes, it is better than you not talking to the patients.” Iosha walked to the counter, put the tray on the counter, and said to him, “Seiled, I not trying making excuses for myself, but I didn't have much interaction with children my age. My studying was my life in my childhood, so my social life suffered because of it.” Seiled gave her a slow nod as she cleaned the mortar and said to her, “If you want to be a doctor or healer, you need to make you patients feel comfortable because your patients are scared and you are the only one who can help them..” Iosha dried for the pestle and mortar and made sure her work area was clean. She started scrubbing the counter and said to him without looking up, “Yes Sir. I will remember what you said in the future.” Seiled gave the young konti a look and said to her, “Don't call me Sir. Iosha you might want to put on that smile again. Your next patient is a child.”

Notes:
This is a short but very straight forward flashback and training thread. However, I have to ask: did you ask Valkyrie permission to use Seiled before you wrote this? You see, Seiled needs to be played by a moderator, or at least by a player who received permission from the local ST to self-moderate him.

NPC’s who need moderators before they can be used in a thread is indicated in the NPC list at the Avanthal player information. :)
