ORIGIN
The Elopement
Sigrid Arundel was a tavern maid, holding her wooden trays and her metal tankards, moving about from table to table in order to make ends meet for her family, barely having enough time for herself in the process. Her mother, Maria, was an ambitious and selfish woman whose only desire was to rise up in the ranks by marrying off her daughter to a wealthy man, while ignoring her husband’s desires to continue their simple life. Sigrid spent the little free time that she had reading and writing, hoping that one day her mother would take notice of her passions and allow her to pursue her wishes of becoming a scribe. A day came where she was tending to a table that a young man entered her workspace offering a penny for her troubles, taking an instant interest in her, and she discovered in him another way to pursue her wishes without the blessing of anybody else.
Philipp Dominic was a part Svefran male, though while looking into his bright green eyes twinkling with the lust for adventure he seemed more pureblooded than most. His mother was the pure, seafaring Svefran between his parents, while his father was a simple man who worked by the docks of Zeltiva. After a brief stint of romance where she became pregnant with Philipp, she offered for the man to sail the seas with her and her pod. Instead of joining her, however, he preferred to stay on land. Philipp’s mother, Anya, refused to sacrifice the sea nor her pod for a man, and took her son with her back into the waters. In his memory, she took his last name and gave it to Philipp, as well. She raised her son among the ocean waves and taught him to fight and fish, and while he learned to love the sea what he found on land was enough for him to have a change of heart.
Sigrid and Philipp fell in love rather immediately, earning the doubts of many regarding the sincerity of their love. When Maria refused to allow her daughter to be with the poor fisherman, the two eloped. They lived elsewhere in Syliras and had Sigrun, and consequently lost the support of the Arundel family. The years passed and the Arundels grew in numbers and in influence, until at last they succeeded in becoming wealthy tradesmen. In spite of their success Maria refused to acknowledge Sigrid as her daughter or any of them as a member of her family, and thus the Dominics had to fare on their own.

Unassuming Childhood
Sigrun was raised in Syliras, living modestly along the Maiden district with her parents. Her mother read to her often and told her stories both fictitious and true, while her father taught her how to wield a sword, to hunt, and to fish. He even, at one point, taught her briefly how to ride a horse, but the girl was more interested in running around the fields outside of the citadel due to her young age. She spent most of her time with one or both of her parents, developing an attachment so strong that it was difficult for her to learn how to give her mother the space she needed when she became pregnant with Sigrun’s brother, Sigmund. During the pregnancy she was made to spend more time with her father and outside, and in the process she met a friend, Francis, who had flaming red hair and the desire to become a Syliran knight. The two sparred and played often, and soon enough Sigrun was spending more time with him rather than with her parents. Before her seventh birthday she is gifted an Inganu Deepwoods pup; Snowe. She and the dog bonded quickly, and soon enough she grew more independent from her parents and learned to go out on her own and in the company of Snowe and Francis. All that changed, however, when Sigmund was born.
Unfortunate Passing
Sigrid died while giving birth to Sigmund, leaving Sigrun and her father alone to care for the baby. Her mother’s death was a huge blow on the spirits of her father, and he quickly grew depressed and distant from his family. Because of this, Sigrun had to care for Sigmund on her own, which was a huge burden in and of itself due to the boy’s sickliness. She spent less and less time outside and with Francis, who at the time was beginning his Squireship, and subsequently saw less and less of her father. Eventually, she stopped seeing him altogether, and found that his things were no longer in their home. This caused Sigrun to hate her father greatly, and blame him for their hardships. Eventually, she chose to forget about him and forget his existence altogether.
Sigrun struggled to raise Sigmund the same way she was raised by their mother by reading to him and telling him the same stories their mother had told her. Francis reentered their lives and used the little money he had to help them while Sigrun put her fishing skills to use in order to make ends meet. While the journey eventually became smoother and smoother, her rekindled friendship with Francis became rougher and rougher.

PRE-CREATION
Troubled Relationships
Sigrun and Sigmund took their one and only chance to see the Arundel family through the attending of the funeral of their grandfather, Christopher, who was a kind and gracious man. His last wish was for all of the family to come together, including the Dominics, and it was the least that Maria could do for him. There, the pair met their cousins; Dahlia, Mais, and Desmond. Only Dahlia treated them with warmth and kindness, and the three were able to become good friends within the duration of the event. The other members of the family were cold to Sigrun and Sigmund, and shut the pair out of their lives once and for all after the funeral.
Meanwhile, romantic tension began to rise between Sigrun and Francis, to the point that a fight broke out between the two of them one rainy night. The quarrel sent the boy storming out of Sigrun’s home, never to be seen again. People said that they had seen him being hauled off to prison by Syliran Knights, but no one knew the reason why. She and Francis remain unreconciled and she still knows nothing of his whereabouts.

Downward Spiral
At nine years old, Sigmund’s health began to fail him to the point of having to stay in bed for days. Sigrun struggled to care for him and his ailing body, but she found herself struggling with both her ignorance and stubbornness, as she know nothing about medicine and refused to ask for help. Eventually, however, on a winter’s night where Sigmund came down with a fever, she chanced upon a kind merchant named Ronan Dugal, who bought them food and cooked them a warm meal. He helped alleviate Sigmund’s fever and kept Sigrun company for a while before leaving. His brief presence gave the girl newfound hope to pursue a better life for both her, Snowe, and her brother.
The Last Straw
Not too soon after Sigmund’s eleventh birthday, yet another fever invaded his body for days. This one unfortunately took his life. Sigrun was devastated, having found herself alone in the world with no one else but a dog to call family. She spent the rest of her days cooped up in their cold home alone, unsure of what to do with herself. Snowe kept her company throughout the ordeal, and eventually he was the reason she came out to find food for the both of them. She lived a reclusive life alone with Snowe at the house before she decided that the memories were too much for her. By 512 AV, Sigrun could not take it anymore. Taking the remainder of their belongings, she sold the house and planned to leave Syliras and all the painful memories it held. She found it hard to leave, however, and eventually she spent one too many days in Traveler’s Row that she decided to stay. Either way, she had already purchased the necessary items for travel, but instead kept them safe in her apartment for the day she would finally depart from the citadel. That day did not come.
The Vices
The pain of losing all her loved ones caused Sigrun to turn to alcoholism. For days she would spend her nights at the tavern drinking until she could barely bring herself back to the apartment. Snowe had become agitated and jittery from being left alone at night and seeing his owner come home smelling of spirits but having none of it. During one night at the tavern, however, she found herself in a bind with another drunkard who had taken an interest in her. After refusing his advances he began to physically assault her, but before he could make any lasting damage he was stopped by an Akalak named Khal’liah, who then took Sigrun and brought her to the White Swan Inn. There, he nursed her back to health and introduced himself to her, and gave her a talk that completely changed her mind about how she had been living. With his words in her heart she urged herself to improve her life for the better, for the sake and the memory of her mother and her brother. Once Spring of 513 AV rolled in she urged herself to get out and start living.
POST-CREATION
Regression
Sigrun grew more social, earning herself a job at the Flower Stand under Atta Sabot and meeting many people around Syliras. She became rather experimental and adventurous, engaging in very brief romances and acquainting with strange characters, such as a ghost and a magician. Most of her morals and ethics changed during this time, and so did her personality. She slowly became more and more unstable in her emotions and her actions, finding that her moods began to change within quick succession of each other. She began to feel a sense of possessiveness for Atta Sabot, whom she considered a mother figure to her, and when the old woman hired others to work at the Flower Stand, Sigrun distanced herself and eventually left the job without saying anything.
She regressed into her old self, the young woman who stayed in her room all day with her dog, sleeping and staring at the ceiling, staying frozen in the past. She had recurring dreams of her family, of her horrible experiences, and of the things that hurt her. Her savings were slowly running out and even then, she did nothing to get another job or return to the one she’d previously had. She felt empty and sad for most of her waking hours, and because of this, she lacked any true sense of purpose.

Change of Heart
Mid-winter was the time Sigrun awoke from her deep, emotional slumber to find that Snowe was dying. The old dog had been staying at home more and more over the years due to his age, which was fortunate for Sigrun, who preferred being at home. Sigrun held him as he slowly slipped away, luckily without any serious pain. She made the impulsive decision to run out of the citadel and find a place to bury him, but instead of finding a decent burial place she found a very sick young man sitting along the edge of the woods. His name was Ninus Aurellius, and while he was kind, he was incredibly strange. He had a large pet rat and an old, stocky horse with him, but in spite of that he was idle and sedentary, and seemed to be that way for quite a while. Sigrun helped him get better, even managing to build a fire for the both of them. Eventually, in her desire to give him assistance, she allowed him to have Snowe to eat, as he had clearly not been able to have food for days. In return, he had given her Snowe’s pelt, a memory of the canine and his deep and unmitigated friendship.
At this point of her life Sigrun was numb to most emotions. She was alone, and because of this she felt incredibly impulsive and took every chance she got to have company. She stayed with Ninus and agreed without qualms to his suggestion that she accompany him on his travel to Sunberth. Gathering her things and purchasing goods and a horse with the remainder of her money, she followed him to Sunberth. Before they managed to get far, however, Ninus abandoned Sigrun at a traveler’s cabin and even took some of her food, leaving behind a simple apology note that said little of why he had done what he did. Not so very alone once again, Sigrun trudged back home with her things, her cart, and her horse, which she decided to name Julien.

The Uprise
After bringing Julien to the stables for safekeeping, Sigrun spent a few days alone in her home once more. She contemplated upon her emotions and her state of mind, and eventually come Springtime of 514 AV she gathered enough courage to go out and find a job yet again. All she could think about was Julien, whom she had purchased and subsequently left alone at the stables. A desire to care and bond with him grew within her, and so she decided to land a job there, where she was already familiar with the owner, Serena. Before heading towards the Windmount Stables, she reacquainted with Atta Sabot. The old woman bore no ill feelings for her in spite of her abrupt departure, and she gave Sigrun advice on how to improve herself and overcome her ordeals. She urged Sigrun to find herself instead of run away from herself, and offered her a journal to keep her thoughts in. Before Sigrun left, Atta handed her one last bouquet to deliver, fortunately over to Serena Windmount, and also her blessing and desire to be written to.
At this point, Sigrun began to recognise the inconsistencies and issues within her manner of thinking and feeling. Slowly, she learned to embrace these demons and resolved to get rid of them or overcome them in order to improve herself as a person. This proved to be more difficult than she had thought, but with her newfound courage, she continued to persevere.
