It had been too hot a day to be anything but lazy and fruitless, the small woman had long decided before she started her day. The sun shone directly in her eyes the entire time she had cooked herself a good brunch, and she had cursed the wind that had not come too many times already. It wasn't even noon yet! All she wanted to do the rest of the day was stay in her shaded tent, but with a heavy heart, N'ivae set into the city to do some work. Though she was still unemployed, that didn't mean she couldn't check the workplace out, right?
And right she was. The young woman tucked her mother's comb into her hair, holding back some of her sleek hair to where it was out of her face. But, her foresight told her it would be way too hot to wear her long hair down today, so she pulled the bone comb out of her locks and tied them up in a long, straight ponytail, her fringe of bangs hanging in front of her eyes. "Perfect," she murmured to herself, before taking off into the streets of Riverfall.
As she headed to the Gilla Medical Center, where her new job would soon be, she took in the slightly cooler air that the river brought in. Though it was still a bit hotter than what she would've liked, she huffed on, passing through the crowds of Akalak men. So many of the blue-skinned, delectable creatures passed through her vision, and yet she knew she could only stare from afar. There would be no love-life for N'ivae right now, that was for sure. And yet... her attention kept jumping away from her.
The Konti bit her lip. Now, she knew that she had passed through this street a few times already, her feet getting used to the unsteady gait from the cobbled stones beneath her. But... Where was the building again? Getting lost was easy for N'ivae, as she hadn't been in the city but a few days after being away for almost three years. But still... "Where is it?" she wondered aloud, blinking her ice-colored eyes.
Finally, after walking in a few more circles, she found the Gilla Medical Center, standing proud in all its glory. It was just as she remembered it to be! Oh, the joys of the medical center. She was tempted to step in and see if any of her aunt's colleagues still worked there. If so, N'ivae really wanted to say hi, and at least deliver the news that she had passed. But she knew that the inside would be crawling with patients. It was always a busy place, and the woman wasn't for making a big fuss and causing a scene. Besides, being a bother wasn't on the top of her list.
Still, it's refreshing to see the building once more, she thought, which lead on to thoughts about her future. Would she succeed here, working in medicine once more? Was she rusty? After all, it had been a year since she had done any major healing. She was shaken out of her thoughts, however, when a fiery-haired woman came almost barreling through the streets of the city, holding what looked to be a bloody hand.
Blood! N'ivae's instants kicked in within a second, and she grabbed the woman's shoulders before she also barreled into the medical center. With wide eyes, she started to inspect the hand that was bleeding, before realizing that no one knew her around here yet, and no one knew she was a doctor.
"Forgive me--I'm N'ivae. I can help you, rather than make you sit and wait in there. My tent has a first-aid kit, if you would like me to help you." The words came out in a quiet, but frenzied rush. The wound looked bad, but not very deep. What concerned her most was that it hadn't clotted up yet, so she would need to inspect it carefully.
Looking up at the woman, she waited for a response, her webbed fingers examining and pushing softly at the skin around the cut in her hand, testing to see if it was deep enough to keep bleeding for a while. She really needed to clean the blood, however, to inspect it better. N'ivae hoped the woman would let her help, as it needed to be disinfected. The sooner, the better, in her opinion. |
