It's Just a Flesh Wound! (N'ivae)

Postby Uopa on April 15th, 2013, 1:47 am

"Well, that's not going to work now...is it?" Uopa informed the empty studio space as she twirled a glowing lump of molten glass on the end of her blowpipe. It was too hot. It was literally dripping off the end of the rod. This just wouldn't do.

Approaching the blazing kiln, only after dumping her instrument into the nearest bucket of water, she adjusted several levers in an attempt to cool the beast of an oven. From day one, the Inarta had had a problem with this thing. There were times she wanted to take it and push it right off the nearest ledge. Maybe once it sank to the bottom of the river, it would learn to behave properly. Just maybe.

Taking a seat at her desk, she waited for the vents to work their magic. Regretfully, it was a rather warm and breezeless day, therefore it was going to take a tad bit longer to get the temperature where she needed it.

"Note to self," she continued to converse with the empty room as her idle hands sifted through the sketches on the table before here, "save up for a new kiln."

Growing tired of waiting, Uopa rose, crossed the room, and approached the blazing kiln. There had to be a way to speed this process along. There just had to be. She didn't have all season to wait for this thing to cool down to a workable temperature. She had commissions to start and orders to complete.

"Okay, here goes...nothing!" she announced as she yanked on the levers a little bit harder, hoping that the vents would open wider, however, the only thing that she managed to open was the palm of her hand as she sliced into the tender flesh!

"Petch!" she screamed as she recoiled in shock. "What the...oh shyke...it...it burns!" she wailed as the searing pain radiated across her hand and then up her arm.

Cradling her injury, she dashed toward her desk and groped for her healer's kit, only to find that it was...

"Missing? What the petch?" she barked as she violently kicked the stool to her desk out of the way.

For far too many chimes, she proceeded to rummage around her studio, until she finally gave in and gave up. The next thing she knew, she was out of her workspace and racing along the path toward the Gilia Medical Center. They would be able to help her. They just had to. Her hands were far too important to her - like they're not important to most living things, you idiot - not to mention her ability to do her job, which certainly required two healthy appendages.

"You better add work gloves to your ever-growing shopping list, you fool," she muttered as she swiftly made her way along the cobblestone path.

It's Just a Flesh Wound! (N'ivae)

Postby N'ivae on April 15th, 2013, 2:22 am

N'ivae

It had been too hot a day to be anything but lazy and fruitless, the small woman had long decided before she started her day. The sun shone directly in her eyes the entire time she had cooked herself a good brunch, and she had cursed the wind that had not come too many times already. It wasn't even noon yet! All she wanted to do the rest of the day was stay in her shaded tent, but with a heavy heart, N'ivae set into the city to do some work. Though she was still unemployed, that didn't mean she couldn't check the workplace out, right?

And right she was. The young woman tucked her mother's comb into her hair, holding back some of her sleek hair to where it was out of her face. But, her foresight told her it would be way too hot to wear her long hair down today, so she pulled the bone comb out of her locks and tied them up in a long, straight ponytail, her fringe of bangs hanging in front of her eyes. "Perfect," she murmured to herself, before taking off into the streets of Riverfall.

As she headed to the Gilla Medical Center, where her new job would soon be, she took in the slightly cooler air that the river brought in. Though it was still a bit hotter than what she would've liked, she huffed on, passing through the crowds of Akalak men. So many of the blue-skinned, delectable creatures passed through her vision, and yet she knew she could only stare from afar. There would be no love-life for N'ivae right now, that was for sure. And yet... her attention kept jumping away from her.

The Konti bit her lip. Now, she knew that she had passed through this street a few times already, her feet getting used to the unsteady gait from the cobbled stones beneath her. But... Where was the building again? Getting lost was easy for N'ivae, as she hadn't been in the city but a few days after being away for almost three years. But still... "Where is it?" she wondered aloud, blinking her ice-colored eyes.

Finally, after walking in a few more circles, she found the Gilla Medical Center, standing proud in all its glory. It was just as she remembered it to be! Oh, the joys of the medical center. She was tempted to step in and see if any of her aunt's colleagues still worked there. If so, N'ivae really wanted to say hi, and at least deliver the news that she had passed. But she knew that the inside would be crawling with patients. It was always a busy place, and the woman wasn't for making a big fuss and causing a scene. Besides, being a bother wasn't on the top of her list.

Still, it's refreshing to see the building once more, she thought, which lead on to thoughts about her future. Would she succeed here, working in medicine once more? Was she rusty? After all, it had been a year since she had done any major healing. She was shaken out of her thoughts, however, when a fiery-haired woman came almost barreling through the streets of the city, holding what looked to be a bloody hand.

Blood! N'ivae's instants kicked in within a second, and she grabbed the woman's shoulders before she also barreled into the medical center. With wide eyes, she started to inspect the hand that was bleeding, before realizing that no one knew her around here yet, and no one knew she was a doctor.

"Forgive me--I'm N'ivae. I can help you, rather than make you sit and wait in there. My tent has a first-aid kit, if you would like me to help you." The words came out in a quiet, but frenzied rush. The wound looked bad, but not very deep. What concerned her most was that it hadn't clotted up yet, so she would need to inspect it carefully.

Looking up at the woman, she waited for a response, her webbed fingers examining and pushing softly at the skin around the cut in her hand, testing to see if it was deep enough to keep bleeding for a while. She really needed to clean the blood, however, to inspect it better. N'ivae hoped the woman would let her help, as it needed to be disinfected. The sooner, the better, in her opinion.

It's Just a Flesh Wound! (N'ivae)

Postby Uopa on April 19th, 2013, 6:12 pm

Uopa nearly recoiled in a state of both shock and fear as this perfect stranger grabbed for her injury. The thought of someone touching it made her cringe. The thought of this unknown individual touching her at all was also a bit disconcerting.

"No! Please...," she began to sputter as the young woman gingerly opened her hand, only after overcoming the Inarta's initial response to pull away. "It's...it's just a flesh wound. A mere surface scratch," she continued to ramble as the woman gave her name, as well as the option of having her injury examined elsewhere. "I can wait...," she continued to explain as her eyes drifted up toward the Medical Center that was just a few chimes away. "Actually, on second thought...," she began to lament as her eyes focused on the end of the line that was pouring out of the main entrance of the facility, "...perhaps I will take you up on your offer."

Withdrawing her hand from the woman's, Uopa returned it to its previous position of being cradled, however, she made sure to apply just enough pressure so that the bleeding would slow.

"You...you mentioned a tent. Does that mean you're living beyond the walls of the city?" she questioned as they began to walk together. "Your encampment is not too far away, is it? I mean, I would hate to be a bother. I really don't mind wait...," however, Uopa was unable to finish her last sentiment as a burning sensation rippled through her hand and up her arm. "Petch!" she muttered through clenched teeth. "Please, lie to me if you have to, but tell me it's right around the bend."

At this point, Uopa could feel her brow going damp with a layer of sweat. She was starting to feel a bit nauseous, too. The lack of a morning meal wasn't helping the situation either, as her empty stomach roiled about. She really needed to sit down, rest, and regroup, however, she didn't want to prolong the situation. This stranger was only going to be so kind to her. Speaking of which...

"I feel compelled to ask. Why are you doing this for me?" she questioned as they approached the city gates. "You have no idea who I am. For all you know, this injury could be the result of a fight...or worse. Maybe I just bludgeoned someone to death! Granted, I'm not much better, am I?" she rambled. "For all I know, you're taking me off to your tent in an effort to enslave me...or worse!"
