Kenash's Comments Questions & Suggestions Thread

Postby Wrenmae on August 23rd, 2013, 8:15 am

Alright...so I have a question.

I was building my inn when I realized I couldn't use it as a feasible business. An innkeeper (and shopkeep for that matter) starts at a base pay of 4 gm. Given that we all should have the competent sales bonus, that pushes it to 6 gm. In a 91 day season, that equates 546 gm.

All nobility in Kenash must maintain a good standard of living, priced at 450 gm. That leaves only 96 gm to do anything with...which would include paying off loans, buying anything, etc...and for businesses that require slaves, 96 gm can't afford to keep them in anything but poor living conditions, and that's just one. I was told that poor living conditions for a slave wouldn't pass for a professional helper.

So...would it actually be inadvisable to have a shop if you also needed to hire help? Those shopkeepers that can manage alone still have 96 gm after living expenses to save or pay out...but a slave or employee totally destroys their ability to survive as a dynasty member.

If my math is totally off then let me know...I was just juggling some figures (and math is totally not a strong point of mine) and wondered if there was any way around it.

Otherwise actually building a bar would be foolish...I can't hire anyone at all and make any money XD...or even own a slave :P

Also, this is just for my business venture and trying to make sure I have one figured out before deadline...but I thought I'd put it out there for other shop owners to check their side as well.

Banickle, Gossamer, I can't remember if this was established...what's Kenash's stance on magic used beneficially...like Spiritism for vengeful slave ghosts or Voiding for waste disposal and whatnot?

This PC has the Blight gnosis. As such, you as a player need to be aware of what that consists of. Wrenmae has an invisible aura that amplifies sickness and disease. Wounds may become infected, small sneezes may become coughing, and a slight fever may become more serious. A nuit's body will also break down faster in the presence of the Blight. These effects may not be immediate, but within the few days following your encounter, the symptoms will manifest. Some sooner than others. I cannot control your character, so creativity will be left up to you. Best wishes and stay healthy!

Special shoutout to Fallon for my new CS

Wren!

This answer is going to be brief, since I am literally running out the door to work.

At first glance, yes, running a business seems rather daunting and it also seems like you won't be making enough coin to live beyond a wooden box. However, what you need to keep in mind is, things will really only be tight while you are paying off your loan. Once paid, your income is your income. Also, your income will increase as your related skills increase. And - and this is the most important piece of the puzzle - there will be other ways beyond your business to make additional mizas! I have epic quests and mini-missions planned, there will be rewards and awards aplenty, especially if you rp like a beast! Heck. If you host a really exciting, detailed, pc involved birthday party, I may just step in with your HOH NPC and give you a really nice gift or two! So, please, do not fret too much.

Oh, and I don't have time to get into the magic piece of your question, but if I find a minute or two later, while on my break, I will try to post a reply on that.

Long live Kenash!

Kenash's Comments Questions & Suggestions Thread

I glance away from this thread for ONE DAY! One day, people! Then there's three pages for me to catch up on. Some of this new information has me dancing internally around the workplace. Wonderful map by the way, Goss. Us Askara's look so secluded in our far upper right hand corner. I like it!

Should we come up with something that tells us Dynasty brats how long it will take us to reach the city of Kenash from our respective plantations? Especially the ones who are on the outskirts, further away. I can see people saying they got there in thirty chimes, and some people four bells. Traveling times are always a big confusion. I know I mess them up all the time.

After all, some people might look at the maps and forget how big those properties are. Or even exaggerate the size too much.

Adding to what Alexandre said about traveling, are there going to be carriages or at least chaises for us Dynasty brats? Because, you know, we can't afford to have these awfully expensive clothes soiled. Plus, walking makes the feet calloused. How can a lady marry if that was the case? Surely, no man will take her in for having a pair of unsightly feet. Oh, the horror!

Travel times are a must! I couldn't agree more. As for some sort of taxi system, yes, there shall be that, too!

Very much agreed. I know I wouldn't marry anyone if they looked like a swamp monster coming into the city from the wilds. And calloused feet? I shudder at the thought! :puke:

Couple of announcements:

Tomorrow is the deadline for a starting business for the group of PCs that are fresh out of the gate. Banickle needs time to set things up and this weekend we are putting in all the remaining businesses NPC driven that are needed for the city to open.

Also, hit the HD up for your NPC requests. I'm approving all that are left today in a few minutes and the rest I can hit tomorrow.

Also, travel times will be included on the plantation map along with the location of the Kabrin Road and how many acres and slaves each plantation starts out with. My chart will be pending Banickle's approval as well.
