Kenash's Comments Questions & Suggestions Thread

Hey Banickle!

I'm just curious what constitutes having a location done enough to warrant getting posted as Kenash opens up. Should we have complete floor plans and the details of services rendered on the individual plantation? I know I was leery of putting in precise numbers for stuff in that latter category.

Also, keep up the awesome work guys, I cannot wait to see all the craziness that explodes come Sunday.

Props to the cool maps as well.

Tinnok, floor plans are not needed. A tag stating "Forthcoming" on that is fine, as long as the description of the location is detailed enough for a player to get a firm idea of where they are and what they are seeing.

The details about the crops or services offered can be loosely defined for now. That's fine. No need to quote actual numbers, as in, this plantation has 25 acres of this type of crop and 10 acres of this or produces 65 bushels of that. Gossamer's general breakdown of acres and allotment of slaves can be slotted in there, as you see fit.

Also, while I have everyone's attention, a Dynasty PC just asked about the furnishings for their suite and what was included. This was my reply:

"As for the furnishings of your suite, you are allowed to elaborate, at no cost, up to a certain point, based on what the Starting Package and Price List states. So, at the minimum, your room would be 400 square feet and contain a good quality fireplace, bed, dresser, chair, and small table. If you desire more than that or something fancier than that, you would have to purchase it."

So, basically, treat it as you would if you started with a modest hovel. If you want more than that, that's fine, but you must pay for it.

Oh, and, on an unrelated note, but also rather important, be sure to follow the board's rules for NPCs if you are designing one. No crazy stats. No crazy skills. Not unless you run it by a ST first. And, please, make sure that the image is not larger than 200 pixels by 200 pixels. If they are, I will probably end up adjusting them and, to be honest, I don't really have time to do that! lol. So if you can help me out, that would be great.

Also, one last thing...

If you are itching to help out with any other locations, just ask. I will be more than happy to hand something off to you! You guys have been doing an awesome job so far. Keep up the great work!

Long live Kenash!

I'm so excited. Go Kenash!

PS: Would we ever be able to have our locations edited (the descriptions, etc.) after Kenash opens. Say if something changes IC, or you realize you want to change how a paragraph is worded after looking at it for so long. Maybe someone gets stabbed to death in the store next door, and they redo the floors in a different color or stone instead of wood. But then I look OOC at the shop's description and it still says what it was before.

I personally think that would be a wonderful idea, since I myself have gone to locations in other cities, only to find out that the establishment had a massive fire that gutted the entire second floor or, as in your example, thirteen people were slaughtered in the kitchen, and yet, not a thing is changed or mentioned in the description. Just like people, places change. I would imagine it would be as simple as saying something like, "...and in the Fall of 513, a baby hippo smashed through the front window, killing a Dynasty bride on the eve of her wedding as she innocently sat waiting for her hand-engraved thank you notes, which, regretfully, she would never deliver."

Just a quick note to everyone looking to start in Kenash this Fall, which is coming *gasp* tomorrow!

Worry not about the status of your CS and location write up, that is, if you have a business. Continue to work on one or the other or both. Gossamer and I have a plan in place to get everything in order over the next few days. We will essentially work with each of you as you post in Kenash's Character Registry. So, again, there is no need to rush, as long as you are not looking to race right in and post at midnight tonight!

Take your time, get things in order, and, if you're really itching to get the ball rolling, start reading up on all of the exciting things that have been posted in the last few days. The Calendar of Events is up, as are the Seasonal Almanac and Challenge. A good portion of the Codex is in place, too. So read, review, and begin to think about your goals for the season. Oh, and if you would still like to contribute, feel free to add new locations, and NPCs, and post up ideas for holidays and festivals, and local lingo, and all that good stuff. The development of the city doesn't suddenly stop with its opening!

A new city takes time to settle in and there will most certainly be bumps along the way, but if we do things correctly, plan accordingly, and work together, we can make it an enjoyable experience for all!

Long live Kenash!

I am currently working on a cemetery location for Kenash. Anyone who wants to share ideas with me, your input is very welcome. Especially if it involves family plots for the Dynasties. The general appearance of the cemetery I've more or less decided on, as well as the undertaker NPC.

Can the Askara Family use only life-size, life-like stone statues as headstones? I think that would be creepy cool.

Of course they can! I was also assuming that Dynasties would be the few to use tombs and mausoleums, since those are expensive. Dead heads of families, etc. would have those, and other family members who died tragically and/or extravagantly and dramatically.
