Spring 20
Daniel held the two lumps of metal and dust that remained of the sword he had taken from a man, beaten in his last job. He had snapped the sword in two with his bare hands, and maybe a leg or two. [i]I should get this repaired![i], he thought. But where would he do that? Ah well, nothing a little stroll couldn't fix. He pulled on his dark cloak and heavy boots, and ate a bite of bread. He stuffed the sword bits inside his cloak, and said goodbye to the wolf sitting near the hearth. Locking the door behind him, he set out to find the town’s center. He nodded hellos to people he bumped into on his way, and they respectfully returned it, as Daniel had a reputation in this city.
When Daniel reached the center of Syliras, he closed his eyes, and willed his energy to flow into his ears. He felt a rush of pins and needles everywhere below his shoulders, and heard several sharp pops. After rubbing his jaw a bit, he perked his ears and listened for the clanging of metal that signified a blacksmith’s shop. The only problem of using this Flux, is that if you hear a loud noise, it will pop your eardrums, so best used in privacy. Luckily, he quickly located it a few blocks away, and set of towards it at once.
The clanging of metal was loud now, as Daniel walked up to the building. A sign proclaimed that this was Sultros Blades. I certainly sounded like a smith shop, in name and contents. He walked inside and wandered around, looking for anyone that might be able to help him. After a minute, he bumped into a woman who smelt of fire and iron. Her locks of mahogany hair immediately caught his eye. “Hello! Are you the smith of this fine shop? If not, do you know where I could find someone to repair this?” asked Daniel with a smile, his eyes turning purple as he pulled out the bits of twisted metal. |

The female blacksmith was in the process of tidying the shop up. Somehow, despite the number of smiths employed, the duties of cleaning the place fell on her - the only woman. She wasn't particularly pleased about this parceling of jobs considering her coworkers rarely pitched in. Hadyn wasn't exactly known for her cleanliness either yet she managed to always be the one sweeping and performing the menial tasks. Vagiks.
She was in the process of sweeping the floor, muttering curses to herself on account of the men she worked with. Entirely enrapt and not anticipating customers, she swept her way right into one. Turning and nearly dropping the broom the woman flashed a quick if not apologetic grin to the man as he spoke, taking him in all the while. He was an attractive chap, about her age with strangely alluring violet eyes. It took her a moment to collect her thoughts before looking down at the item presented, the remains of what was at one time a sword. A wreck now.
"Ah welcome to Sultros. My apologies for bumpin' into you," she replied, taking a step back and holding the broom in one hand. Looking more like a maid than a smith, the woman was suited in a leather apron, britches and a tunic beneath. Her dark hair was swept into a loose bun, messy in its clear lack of attention.
"I'm a smith," she informed him with another smile. "An' I'm not sure how much I can do for your unfortunate sword, mate. Might be better off remakin' the whole blade," she paused to inspect it again before returning her gaze to his preternaturally purple eyes.
"What'd y'do to it - take a crack at the ol' wall for a lark?" |

"Ah welcome to Sultros. My apologies for bumpin' into you," she repented, as he took in whom he was speaking to. She had her brown hair curled into a bun, which was a little bit disheveled due to her hard work, most likely. She wore a brown apron over a tunic, and with the broom, she looked rather like a maid. A smile lit up her face as she spoke, "I'm a smith, an' I'm not sure how much I can do for your unfortunate sword, mate. Might be better off remakin' the whole blade," she looked back to the blade again, examining it before shaking her head. "What'd y'do to it - take a crack at the ol' wall for a lark?" Her drawl made it, difficult to understand, but the message got through and his eyes turned grey, looking like winter clouds.
“Alas, no. I broke it with my own two hands, if you can believe thats. It was a fine battle, but I won in the end, and I am no worse for wear because of it. The question remains, can you remake it?” Daniel inquired, furrowing his brow, talking in a boastful manner. He looked down at his own sword, and was reminded of just how broken it was. The blade was in two, with slivers of metal scattered amongst the halfs. It would be hard, if not impossible to repair. But alas, he did not have the coin for a new one, so repairs were his only option. Daniel had wanted to frame it, so as to mark another conquest. |

The blacksmith surveyed the ruins of the blade once more, eyebrows raised expectantly. With a small nod she returned her gaze to the man.
"I can reforge it," she replied with a frown. "I'll have to remove what's left of t'blade, melt it down and reattach it to the hilt. May I?"
She extended her hands, palms up to receive the hilt to analyze it. Hadyn was nothing if not thorough regarding her job and if he wished her to remake the blade, she'd have to make certain it was possible.
"It'll cost you 'bout fifteen gold pieces, depending on the damage an' the nature of t'mending needed." Her gaze flicked up to his face to ascertain his response. "That sit alright with you, Sir?" |

"I can reforge it," the woman replied with a frown. "I'll have to remove what's left of t'blade, melt it down and reattach it to the hilt. May I?" Daniel handed her the sword fragments, and she took them with care. Holding it flat on her palms and nodded. "It'll cost you 'bout fifteen gold pieces, depending on the damage an' the nature of t'mending needed." Her eyes shot to his, analysing him, "That sit alright with you, Sir?"
Daniel nodded, “Of course.” He rattled his coin purse and it produced a lot of clinking sounds, indicating his social status. “Pay will be no problem. I do not think I have your name though...” Daniel always made a point of knowing who he was dealing with. Even if they gave a fake name, they would be easier to track down. |

"Hadyn," she replied distractedly, pouring over the broken sword. Walking to the counter, the woman placed the ruined weaponry down, taking a final glance at it before bending over to rummage for a slip of parchment. Once found, the woman set to recording the transaction. Writing the order, her brown eyes flicked up to his face, quill pen poised above the paper.
"Your name, Sir?"
It wouldn't be a difficult order but she was hoping there wasn't a timeframe on the project. She had quite a bit of work backlogged as it was. |

"Hadyn," she replied, not looking up from the sword, she rotated the shards in her hands, looking at them in the light. She walked to a counted top and set the fragments of metal on it, retrieving a piece of parchment and quill, bending over as she did so. Once found, she started making making marks in black ink, neat handwriting, or as far as Daniel would know. Her eyes found his as she looked up, like chocolate they were, and her name just as sweet.
"Your name, Sir?" she asked, raising her brow. “Daniel Connor. Pleasure to meet you. Your name is fitting of one so charming in nature.” Daniel said with a sparkling grin, his eyes turning a spectacular yellow. “Might I ask, when will it be ready?” he inquired, looking down at the fractured blade, frowning as he did so. He was not expecting it to take too long, but for that amount of damage...bah! He was no smith. |

The woman smiled as he gave her name, recording it quickly. It was not a name she was familiar with but that rarely meant much. He was likely new to the city. Glancing at him, the woman decided she hadn't seen him before. She canted her head in response to the compliment, the smile still faint on her lips.
"Well met, Sir Connors," she replied, setting the quill down. "Shouldn't be more than two or three days, if that pleases you." Looking at him again she noted how his eyes seemed to change at every tick. It was both fascinating and slightly unnerving. Hadyn cracked her knuckles as she stood up straight, brushing a loose strand of hair behind one ear.
"Forgive t'curiosity, but are you new to Syliras?" |

Hadyn smiled and jotted it down. She showed no recognition in her eyes at Daniel’s name, not surprising. Syliras was big. She cocked her head to the side in response to his compliment. He frowned slightly, barely noticeable, and his eyes flashed a dark grey for just as long. He was a little upset she did not react more to his compliment, as he was used to. Well, people are different in different places.
"Well met, Sir Connors," she replied, replacing the quill on the counter, making a drop of ink fall on the table. "Shouldn't be more than two or three days, if that pleases you." When he looked to her, she was staring at his eyes, which he then rolled. This always happened! Every time he talked to someone who had not seen him, always the eyes. Hadyn cracked her knuckles as she stood, brushing a lock of her hair behind her ear.
"Forgive t'curiosity, but are you new to Syliras?" she inquired, looking at him quizzically. He wondered why she had asked, but replied, “No, I have been her for around nine years now. What has got you asking?” He smirked at her and said smugly, “My eyes?” |

An eyebrow rose at Daniel's response, the eye-roll unexpected. Setting her hands against the counter top, she leaned against her palms, arms straight as she watched him. Her posture was relaxed, her expression somewhat bemused at his answer.
"No. Well, somewhat. They are interested," she conceded with a slight nod his way. "I make a point of gettin' to know my customers. Curiosity over took me."
She shrugged stiffly, her hands still pressed to the ledge of the counter, a smile touching her lips. Although she wasn't fond of the smugness in his voice she let it go. Regarding him for a moment, the woman tilted her head to crack the bones in her neck before returning her gaze to Daniel.
"Anyway, I'm pleased y'chose to bring your business here," she intoned with another polite smile. |
