More Medicine! [Ruby]

Postby Spirit Frostfawn on May 14th, 2013, 3:45 pm

"You did well. Is this your first time nursing someone ?" Ruby asked, causing Spirit to beam. Though it was just a small thing, the praise made her incredibly happy. "Uhh not really. Well, yes. The first time really helping out aa human patient, especially with something like... this. I generally help out more with animals!" She said, answering the doctor's question. This had been a pretty new experience for her, actually using legitimate medicines, rather than doing the basics of binding wounds and such.

While she beamed, Ruby told the patient "Well then, excuse us and thank you for today too." and began to leave the room. The Frostfawn followed patiently, wondering what else her tutor would have in store. Would they be treating more patients? Or... making medicine? She wasn't even quite sure if Ruby could do that in the first place. Before she got too far, however, the patient stated: "Wait. 6 for a slow death, 7 for a painful one. That much a person can take before dying." It caused the young groom to freeze in her steps, confused, until the other two began laughing. Right, he was answering her question about the number of berries! Wow... 6 wasn't very many. It would be a disaster if someone, wandering through the wastes, decided to snack on a handful of them. Depending on the number, they could easily die! It was a slightly horrifying thought, so she noted down the appearance of the plant, so next time she was out in the wilderness, she would know not to eat those.

Smiling at the laughter, she joined in slightly, before leaving the room to wait for Ruby. "So... what now?" She asked excitedly, ready to learn more about medicine. They experience with the gaping would had slightly put her off, but now that it was over and done with, she felt much better, and ready to keep on going.

More Medicine! [Ruby]

Ruby was unsure how she would express the question without offending Spirit. On the other hand, there were few documented herbal medicines in Avanthal, most of which vary from doctor to doctor. Ruby herself had started experimenting with animal parts though none had met success so far. Point was, she was out of things to teach, to an eager student. A teacher's greatest joy and nightmare combined.

"Forgive my rudeness, but by the way... what do you need to learn medicine for ?" she said bluntly, with the same smile.

Meanwhile, the thought that Spirit was a poisoncrafter looking to utilize today's herbal knowledge passed her mind, which was dispelled quickly, but not without wary.

"Forgive my rudeness, but by the way... what do you need to learn medicine for ?" Ruby asked, seeming to be slightly awkward with the question. It was quite a legitimate concern, as some people might use their medical knowledge for things other than helping people. But of course, Spirit was clueless on the reasoning of this, never understanding the point of anything... well, mean, like that. Despite the fact that she was 16, the Frostfawn was quite immature in this way, not really understanding most of the world outside of Avanthal. Her city was relatively safe, and so her life had been, so she could easily be considered 'sheltered'.

"Oh! Uh... I guess I like helping people, but mostly animals. I was sorta striving to become a vet one day, though since I'm leaving Avanthal soonish... I'm not sure if that's gonna happen. It's useful knowledge anyways!" She stated smiling in answer to the doctor's question. It was quite true, really. The combination of caring for, and healing animals was just... awesome. A small selfish part of her though about how much more it paid, but she stubbornly ignored that fact. Sadly, her departure for the Spires would cut that dream short, though she had a general idea that the residents there were pretty animal, nature and medicine friendly too. So it might eventually work out, but by the time she would leave, she probably wouldn't be skilled enough anyways.

"Soooo... what next?" She asked again excitedly, since Ruby hadn't answered the last time she'd asked. The young groom was getting the sense her tutor was running out of things to do, but maybe... they would just find something new to learn along the way! After that, if it happened at all, Spirit would show the woman Silver and Wind, since she thought they might like to meet the animals.

OOCFeel free to take Spirit down into the foyer, so we can come across the new person ^-^

"I have no other things to teach, sorry." Ruby said sheepishly. "By the way, you mentioned that you're leaving Avanthal soon. Where to ? Oh, let's talk over this downstairs, there's a cafe, I'll treat you to a drink !" She smiled, though a subtle hint of stiffness perturbed her. Without waiting for a reply, she started off downstairs to the cafe, Spirit following suit.

In truth, she liked adventure as much as she liked her meals. She longed for the tranquility that came when she was alone before the grand landscapes. The snow-capped hills of Taldera, the great grass plains of Sylira, perhaps someday she'd even retrace her roots in the Konti Isle ?

But then, an adventure must have its dangers, lest it lost its elusive thrill. She never forgot the bandits that raided a caravan she once was in, and the beasts that came stalking in the night. Both were equally dreadful, the difference only in the presence of a body to be buried or nothing at all. I need some tea to calm me down, she decided as they were about to enter the cafe.

More Medicine! [Ruby]

David Arnim awkwardly walks up to the healing center door while clutching his side. On a previous job a bandit had managed to cut him before he put the fool down. He had tried to simply cover the wound but realized toughing it out was not the best option. Earlier in the day during a job his entire side was sore, if he didn't do something proper about the wound he might find him self in a deadly situation.

After a moments hesitation he takes a breath of the cold air and pushes the door open. Stepping into the healing center he tracks in a small bit of snow before closing the door behind him. Still clutching his side he steps further into the healing center."Hello !" he says upon seeing a doctor coming down the stairs."I need to see a healer." he says pointing to the wound on his side.

"I have no other things to teach, sorry." Ruby stated, slightly sheepishly, bringing an understanding smile to Spirit's face.

"That's ok" She replied to the first statement, understanding completely. Sometimes, things could only really be taught within circumstance, and they had run out of that. The man's injury had taught quite a bit, and given a decent bit of practical experience too. But everything had their limit, and once they were done... well, her tutor had an excuse to run out of things to teach.

"By the way, you mentioned that you're leaving Avanthal soon. Where to ? Oh, let's talk over this downstairs, there's a cafe, I'll treat you to a drink !" Was the next statement, slightly surprising the Frostfawn. "Well, I'm headed to the Spires soonish, leaving early Summer." She informed the woman happily. For some reason she didn't exactly feel like giving out the exact date, though she didn't know why. Maybe it was because she might change it last minute, or... well, who knew. There was no reason to bother over such a small fact. "Oh, and thanks! I'd love to..." She replied to the offer of a drink. She felt slightly guilty for letting the doctor teach her stuff, and then buy her something, but the young groom's cash was slightly low, so she wasn't about to complain. She would have loved to offer Ruby a drink herself, but didn't want to waste the money. She'd spent enough on her trip already, and wasn't planning on splurging any more until she got paid at the end of the season.

She followed her new 'friend' down the stairs, happy to do something else, but they were quickly confronted by a new person. He appeared to have a wound in his side, and it didn't look so good. "Hello ! I need to see a healer." He stated, pointing to the injury. It wasn't as ugly looking as the previous patient's, but that was mostly because it was surrounded by clothes and the like. Spirit wanted to help the man, partially for more practice, but she tried to ignore that selfish thought. He needed, and had asked for, help, and the two people closest should be the ones to help him.

"Ruby... lets pause that drink, and help this guy out... we can continue a lesson of sorts there!" She whispered in the woman's ear, so the man couldn't hear. It wasn't that it was a secret or anything, just that it would be slightly awkward to say out loud. "So how about it? Where do we take him and such? We couldn't exactly help him right here...." She finished, still keeping her voice low. She hoped Ruby agreed... rather than sending him to a more professional Whitevine. That might end up being the better choice though, for the patient, especially if the wound was really bad. It didn't look too serious though, as the man still seemed quite able to walk and talk and such, and the pain wasn't really showing.

OOCTotally irrelevant but... David has his own color!! XD

More Medicine! [Ruby]

Postby Ruby Majalenka on May 17th, 2013, 1:23 pm

Ruby gave a tiny nod to Spirit, and beckoned David down the corridor to the area of the building where treatment rooms were clustered, in which light wounds and illnesses were treated. "Right this way, sir." she said, emphasizing the request, smiling. They found an empty room right away.

The treatment room was a small room equipped with a bed, a cabinet, and a small water-filled brass bowl.. "Please lie down, sir." she gestured to the bed.

Taking a vial containing a clear liquid and a piece of cloth from the cabinet, Ruby whispered shyly to Spirit. "Wash your hands in that bowl, then moist the cloth with this alcohol and clean the wound... I'm weak to alcohol, I fear I'd get drunk if I accidentally take a whiff to that." She blushed lightly, feeling a slight assault to her dignity with nobody to blame but her inability.

In the corner were a small desk with quills and ink vial on it. Ruby sat down and prepared writing the patient's details, for administrative purposes. "May I have your name and age, sir ?" she inquired, smiling as always.

"Right this way, sir." Ruby said, emphasizing the request, smiling."Thank you." he said with a confident smile before following Ruby and Spirit down the corridor to the empty room. Stepping into the room his side was still sore from the wound, but he could handle it.

"Please lie down, sir." Ruby said gesturing to the bed. David happily obliged to the young doctor's request, glad to get off his feat. Laying down on the bed he rested the back of his head on his hands.

"May I have your name and age, sir ?" Ruby inquired, smiling as always."I am David Arnim, my age is twenty four." he says giving a slight smile back."Might I know the name of two who are treating me today ?" he asks Ruby and Spirit in his usual friendly manner.

More Medicine! [Ruby]

Postby Spirit Frostfawn on May 18th, 2013, 11:13 pm

When Ruby nodded to Spirit, the Vantha’s heart soared. They were going to help him! And she would get even more practice! All this just sounded amazing to the young Frostfawn, who was practically jumping up and down with glee. ”Thanks!” she whispered quietly to her tutor, and smiled widely at their new patient.

"Right this way, sir." The woman stated, directing the man to an empty treatment room. The young groom followed behind happily, and entered the area soon after their new patient. Inside it was slightly similar to the other room, with a bed and all, but it seemed less…. Well, permanent. The doctor instructed the man to lie down in the provided resting area, who complied willingly. There were writing implements on a desk inside, and a cabinet. Ruby walked up to the latter and pulled out a cloth and a bottle. She handed the things to Spirit, stating "Wash your hands in that bowl, then moist the cloth with this alcohol and clean the wound... I'm weak to alcohol, I fear I'd get drunk if I accidentally take a whiff to that" shyly. She pointed to a small bowl also in the room.

The Vantha took the items and happily headed to the bowl. She didn’t really mind Ruby’s dislike of alcohol… it was understandable really. At least cleaning wounds was one thing she knew how to do, so it wasn’t too much of a problem. As her tutor interrogated their patient, she set the cloth and alcohol on the floor to free her hands. She dunked them in the water and quickly washed her appendages, before removing them and shaking them to clear off the water. She grabbed the needed items and carried them over to the bed, where smiled at the patient, whose name was apparently David.

”Nice to meet you David… I’m Spirit… Now, I’m just going to wash your wound with this….” She held up the bottle so he could see, before opening up the container of alcohol. Dabbing a bit onto the cloth, she continued to smile as she uncovered the gash. It didn’t look too bad, and was decently clean. It didn’t look much like the work of an animal, or an accident, as those were generally more ragged. Sadly, it hadn’t been brought immediately so wasn’t looking so good. ”This is going to hurt…” she warned him, before swiping the cloth along the wound.

Ignoring any possible protests, she continued to wash the wound with the alcohol, adding more to the cloth when needed. It stung if there was anything in the injury, and would continue to do so until it was cleaned out. At least human patients were easier than animals… they generally understood the pain and all. And they didn’t try to run away from it… since they obviously knew the cleaning was good for them. The wound was looking cleaner, but just as a precaution, she added ”Tell me if it starts hurting less…. Or just stops in general.”

”Nice to meet you David… I’m Spirit… Now, I’m just going to wash your wound with this….” Spirit said to him holding up a bottle of alcohol before his eyes so that he may see."Good to meet you Spirit." David said watching Spirit as she uncovered his wound and began inspecting it.”This is going to hurt…” Spirit warned him before she began swiping a alcohol soaked cloth along his wound.

David grimaced at first when the alcohol stung at his sore wound. David was starting to wish he had come to the healing center sooner, but he would not verbally admit it.”Tell me if it starts hurting less…. Or just stops in general.” Spirit says to him as she continues to clean his wound. After a few more moments of cleaning the alcohol begins to sting less and less."It's not hurting as much anymore." he says looking from the gash to Spirit.
