Description:
Seclusion was a thing of the past. The Djed storm of 512 brought the isolated Inarta face to face with death. With their volcano home on the verge of eruption, their food source corrupted, dead, or frightened away, the Gingers found themselves on the brink of disaster and with no one to turn to. Though they would never fully admit that they couldn’t do everything for themselves, they were smart enough to realize that they needed to extend their hands (and wings) to the rest of Mizahar.
Kalea’s mountainous landscape made it hard for foot travel, but Wind Reach had always maintained the upper hand there in the form of one giant, terrifying creature: Wind Eagles. While their neighbors in Kalea had always benefited from this, it wasn’t until that verge-of-death scare that trade was opened with the rest of the land, the Wind Eagles carrying their riders and goods all over in the name of trade and, perhaps, brokering friendships.
Having to set aside their tendency towards xenophobia, the Inarta have begun to expand their knowledge of other cities and the races that they share the world with; whether they like it or not, the Gingers didn’t rule the entire world of Mizahar. And thus, the Endal were unleashed upon the poor, unassuming world.
Though minor trade and transportation had occurred for generations, it was a slow and leisurely thing; Endal and their Wind Eagles left when they wanted, took whoever could pay them the most, and perhaps dropped off a few goodies to Lhavit or Alvadas. Now, however, things were much different. The little rickety shack on the edge of a cliff, manned by an old and retired Endal could no longer keep up with the influx of good and outflow of Inarta.
Upgrade was necessary and came in the form of a sturdy stone building built onto a cliff not far from the city. Completely roofless and with low slung walls, the new trading post perfectly accommodated the Wind Eagles. The large circle as its center was where the Wind Eagles would be saddled with the goods (or people) they were to transport, spacious enough to allow the Endal to land or take off immediately after loading was complete.
Two half-moons wrapped around the sides of the landing pad, acting as a waiting area for passengers as well as storage for goods coming or going. A stairway, dug directly into the mountain, leads down from each side into large caverns below. These not only offer more storage space, but it is also furnished with a myriad of mismatched chairs and tables. Tunnels leading from the heart of Wind Reach itself connect to these caverns, giving the Inarta access to the Trading Post even in bad weather; even so, a large, waterproofed sheet of canvas supported by a network of treated wood lay nearby to cover the entire area in case of a storm. Weather hardly ever stopped the Inarta.
Luka Harvo:
A hearty man in his late fifties, Luka is a Chiet that couldn't be happier with his job. With a pack of Dek to help load and unload the Wind Eagles, Luka merely oversees the goings on of the Trading Post, making sure passengers and trade goods alike are well taken care of and stored properly. Slightly obsessive compulsive, Luka has a system for everything and everything must be in it's place. Never one to raise his voice, the Inartan man would rather put things away himself than explain to others how to do it.
Kind and caring, Luka is more of a hostess than anything else, making sure all the "guests" to his Trading Post are comfortable and taken care of. Everyone within the city doesn't even question the fact that Wings and Things is practically his.

The Trade:As the demand for trade has increased, it is the Endal who have to step up to fill need. Though most of what the Inartans grow, catch, build, or make stays within Wind Reach, the ingenious redheads have found another way to provide for the rest of Mizahar, getting much needed food and other goods in return. They sell their services. Since Wind Eagles exist only within Kalea, Mount Skyinarta specifically, the rest of Mizahar lacks the benefit of their large size, swift flight, and ability to carry large loads for long distances. Rather than part with their precious foods the Endal and their Wind Eagles function mostly as a courier service, picking up goods in one city and flying them to the next, taking part of the load for themselves and bringing it back to Wind Reach. Should there be extra room, travelers are also accepted- for a price. Instituting this new trade meant that the Inarta had to equip their mounts with the proper gear. Large hanging baskets serve to carry the goods, a strong, heavy net encasing the basket with a handle on top for the Wind Eagle to grip in its talons are the most popular. Other forms of crates, bags, nets, and satchels are also seen, and in all different sizes. Double-seater saddles are provided to those Endal who’s Wind Eagle would accept a non-Inartan passengers. This means that those Endal who have a two seat saddle can carry a passenger as well as Trade Goods; otherwise the individual paying to fly would be stuck amongst the trade items hanging below. They are not a messenger or transport service and those wishing to use them as such may find themselves charged exorbitant amounts to ferry them or their letters. Delivery of goods to other domains follows the travel outline detailed below. |
