Character Concept
Coal is a slave pure and simple. He doesn't think much for himself or in terms of 'what ifs'. What if he wasn't a slave? Well that doesn't matter because he is, and since he is, the Isur sees it as his duty to do his job right and well. He is quiet and watchful, never speaking before being spoken too, and always respectful to his betters. Some see his demeanor as rude, his speech clipped and concise, but it is only his dour Isur ancestry coming forwards, a trait Coal is quite unaware of.
Character History
Sometimes when Coal wakes after a deep slumber he'll remember flashes of his past, hands just as hard and strong as his cradling his tiny infant body, and kind words in a tongue he doesn't understand. These dreams are fleeting at best, however, and come rarely, because for the most part, Coal remembers little of his life before he came to Kenash.
He was 10 when they brought him, and though he doesn't know the city he came from, he remembers the dark pits of coal mines he worked in. Weak as he was back then, the little Isur had always been hardier than human children of his age, always gone a little longer, perhaps eaten a little less. Small, but stocky and always ready for more work.
It wasn't until one day when fixed a shoe for a wayward horse that his masters discovered Coal's innate talent for blacksmithing. He could hammer a nail fast as you like, shape copper bracelets and even enjoyed inlaying the metal with tools. Though they were loathed to part with such a hardy worker in the mines, it was clear and unsurprising that the Isur's talents lay elsewhere.
When Coal was first sold in Kenash he wasn't allowed to build, or smith, and returned to a life of labor. But he didn't complain, nor voice his opinion, and sooner rather than later, the Radacke family discovered just the same thing that his previous master's had...and though Coal's world was small and hard, he found a way to move up within it. Most do not refer to Kyros by his birth name, but by the coal covered arm that makes him such a valuable asset, Coalarm if they feel like being formal...but generally Coal for short.
