The Diary of Vassarka Oleander 4th of Spring 513 Mamma! Oh how I miss you! I have been weeping for a day now, almost non stop, and yet your body still lies there, dead on the floor of our room. I don't know who will look after me now. Why did you have to leave me? Why!?

8th of Spring 513 The Knights came to take away Mamma's body three days ago, and I cannot say I blamed them for recoiling for the smell. I need to get away from this stinking city, yet there is no way I can see that I can leave for just a short while. I have been recently thinking about my Symenestra roots, and I would like to go back to the place of my heritage: Kalinor. I have heard tell of the dark, murky depths of the caverns there, and it seems as though that is the only place I will ever be truly welcome in this world. I need to find a way to leave as soon as possible.

49th of Spring 513 It has been a long time since I last wrote, yet I have been planning and plotting my escape now, and it seems to be becoming more and more real every day I live. I have even gone so far as to purchase a horse, a Zavian beauty, however it cost half of the 200 gold mizas that I have left of the 250 that Mamma left me. I have only 100 now, of which I need to use to buy weapons to keep me safe on the Kabrin road. That is the way that I will travel, as I see no other way of going to Kalinor. I just want to leave the city as soon as possible, and get out on the road with the fresh air in my lungs and a smile on my lips. My bag to leave grows more full every day, and I have also got a tent and all the equipment that it necessary from the Great Bazaar. I shall have to make a trip there some time soon, in order to purchase the necessary goods.

77th of Spring 513 My travel plans have been delayed somewhat, as I needed to make some sales of the items in the house. Most of the things I had to practically give away to friends and neighbors, and I have exactly the amount of money I started with, 100 gold mizas. This will be spent quite a lot tomorrow, as I plan to go back down to the Great Bazaar to purchase weapons for my travels. I ought to be leaving in three days time...I am very excited!

79th of Spring 513 Tomorrow is the day! I purchased yesterday a pair of boots with hidden blades in them, and three throwing knives and an axe of the same kind, which I have been practicing with today. I haven't much time to write this evening, as I need to prepare for my long journey that will begin tomorrow, and get a good nights sleep.
