KOA of the Painted Eyes Basic Information Race: Myrian Birthday & Age : 12th of Summer 489AV (22 years old) Gender: Female Physical Description Koa is a fierce-looking woman with olive skin and dark hair that is usually adorned with an array of bones, beads or feathers. Her hair is either thick and long for winter days or short and styled in a mohawk with the ends that fall nearly below her shoulderblades. She usually keeps it free without any knots or ties in it, although occasionally for festivities she might have a braid or two to keep it from becoming unruly. She stands at around 5'11", not as imposing as other women of Myrian descent, but all the more agile. She is fit to the bone, with deceiving strength brimming beneath well sculpted arms and legs, but with speed being her primary focus on maneuvering. Her bronze skin has several scars marring the expanse of it from countless bouts of brawls with both the savage animals of Falyndar and fellow Myrians alike. A tattoo of a simple thick stripe and one thin stripe beneath it goes across her eyes and over the bridge of her nose, signifying her as a part of the Painted Eyes clan. Her face is exotic in appearance with almond-shaped eyes holding irises of green and with cheeks that are sharp and well defined. It is overall oval, giving her a soft overlay shrouding the menacing devil that lies beneath. A natural facade she uses to her own advantage. However, her eyes always contain glares and her expression is always fierce or seemingly irritated. Character Concept Koa is a stubborn, audacious and arrogant. She is a woman with set standards and goals she is willing to risk everything for. Her life is purely devoted to the art of swords and training, to hone her skills and become the best that she could possibly be, and she would rather die at the hands of a fellow Myrian than be caught unawares anytime out in the wilderness. But although she might appear to be callous and heartless amongst her peers, she is still quite capable of being fiercely loyal and protective, especially to her little sister. Her mentality on life only stretches so far, and at times she is known to be caring and soft spoken, most notably on days when she has sparred with others for countless hours, and she has felt she has improved at least in the slightest. Her devotion to Myri knows no bounds, and it is made apparent by her constant trainings and her desire to preserve her people's ways. Caihya is a close second, for Koa admires and appreciates the pure strength, beauty and resilience of the jungle, it's inhabitants and the world they live in. She enjoys traversing the land beyond Taloba and risking life and limb surrounding herself in pure nature. Indeed, Koa has the heart of a predator, a beast that only knows survival and instincts. Intruders to her require no need to explain themselves. If she so much as saw anything or anyone trespass the walls of Taloba, she is not unwilling to penetrate their chest cavity and tear out their hearts. Her passionate attitude towards her people and her protective nature often might overcome her at times, but although she might need several people to calm her down, she is willing to settle and become tame in the eyes of a stranger. Character History Koa is the 3rd daughter of Salen and Ranwa of the Painted Eyes clan. They derive their ways on tattoos and the art of painting skin. Artistic in nature but brutal in battle, the family of the Painted Eyes are not without tragedies in the history of their people. With countless battles and ambushes with Dhani and wild, vicious predators out in the jungle wilds, Koa grew up learning of the mercilessness of nature and the ways to combat it. It was the summer of 403AV when Koa encountered her first predator and received her first true battle scar. The then fourteen year old Myrian was on the verge to begin her long and arduous training for her coming of age ritual with her mother, and she was eagerly preparing for the long days ahead. "What more can teach you to become strong and knowledgeable than to really go out there and experience it yourself." Her mother had said. And she was right. Koa had merely been sparring with fellow children, and she was growing frustrated with each passing day that nothing new came of it. Thus Salen took her daughter aside and instructed her to pack her things. On the 50th day of Summer, with the rains pouring and the muds clinging to plants and animals alike, Salen and Koa left the sanctity of Taloba and tore and kicked there way across the nearly flooded landscapes. "To build up the strength in your legs, child." Salen had told her daughter. Koa said nothing of it, and yet she followed close behind her mother in a constant need to be assured she was there. It was only during the cover of night did tragedy strike. Koa had awoken to the sounds of her mother's shouts, and she scrambled to her feet on the branch she was resting on only to be met by the sight of her mother wrestling with a beast as large and as fierce some as her, attempting to clamp down on her neck. A cry had escaped Koa, and she was frozen in place with fear. 30 agonizing seconds had passed before she grasped the long and heavy blade resting beside her and jumped down into the soft mud. A scream tore through her throat as she stabbed at the creature, stabbed with all her might and all the strength she could muster into a frenzy that would leave her helpless. But her best was not enough to force it to relinquish it's hold on her mother. She grabbed at it, pushed at it, until her mother, through screams of her own from the blood that spewed from her torn limbs shouted at her to aim at it's head. Koa, panicking and horror-stricken complied to her words, bringing the bloodied blade down onto the creature's neck, and it howled in agony. In a flash it had turned and clawed at Koa, slicing through the skin of her stomach tackling her in one fluid strike. But the final blow was delivered by her mother, who tore at it with her remaining arm enough to sever the head. Several minutes had passed with Koa breathless and shocked, with the head of the beast settled right beside her. "I was foolish.." Her mother murmured wearily, "Never let your guard down in the night child... Never let them track you.. Cover your scent.." But she did not finish for she then collapsed onto the bloody mud beneath her. Koa had cried for her mother, pushing aside the heavy corpse of the predator and rushing to her aid, only to realize she was far too inexperienced with medicine to even attempt to help. But she was desperate to save the Matriarch of her family, as well as her idol, and her protector, and thus she lifted her mother's tall and strong body on her back and trekked her way toward the walls of Taloba. It was painfully slow, with her own wounds pounding and oozing more blood than usual, but they had been on their way back to the city regardless, and once she had collapsed in front of the walls, fellow Myrians had rushed to their aid. Salen had survived, with a lost arm to show for it, but the Painted Eyes clan had praised Koa for her ability to carry her back the whole way. Koa became determined then, to become as strong and as capable as she could be in order to protect her family, and to prevent the loss of anyone or anything. The predator had taught her many things about the nature of the wilds, that is was unpredictable and merciless, much like how she would end up striving for as well. Koa is currently enrolled in the military, having found that after the three years required to enter it, she was becoming far more proficient in battle. There is also that underlying sense of pride she receives when she dutifully defends her homeland. Training (Skills, Arcana, Gnosis, Lore)
