Overview of Fall 513 AV

Fall arrives as the Watchstones turn from yellow to red. The whole city is restless with excitement for the long awaited celebration of Morwen’s Lights festival. The festival had not been held the previous year because of the events following the Djed Storm of 512 AV, and so the citizens of Avanthal are eager to see this year’s display. However, there was a considerable lack of visitors attending from neighboring cities in Taldera compared to previous years.

Meanwhile, the frigid temperature continues to drop that results into the thickening of the sea ice, prompting Frosthawk attacks on the small animals within the city. The weather turns for the worst as well, with heavy blizzards, hail and static storms looming over the wintry city. However, the citizens are thankful for the temporary supply of food the whale that washed ashore will provide in this time when hunting is nigh impossible to do due to the inclement weather.

Midway through the season, the skies clear up and the Frostfawn Hold takes this opportunity to hold their seasonal hunt for the elusive Frostfawn Deers. They invite people from other Holds to take part in the event as a way to keep the sense of unity between them and the other Holds, mostly as an effort to keep a repeat of last year’s tragedy from happening again.

By the end of Fall, the three-day celebration for the Departure of Morwen was held. On the third day however, festivities were interrupted as an herd of frenzied animals ram themselves into the massive Icestone walls of Avanthal. Things start to look grim once more as the Icewatch and Frostfawn Hold investigates the cause for the strange behavior. Witnesses claim that most of the animals seemed to be made of ice. Citizens fear that terrible things will start happening again once Queen Morwen leaves the for the Winter.

Summer 513 AV :
Overview of Summer, 513

The Watchstones turn yellow to signal the change of the season into Summer. The weather continues to be extremely cold even as the rest of the world swelters under the summer heat. Frequent heavy snow fall continues to afflict the wintry city.

Early in the season, it was decided that another group will be dispatched to search for the exploration team that had gone missing late in the previous season. A few days later, the party was found several miles on a different shore and in the midst of an encounter with a lone Sabretooth. The party held their ground against the beast’s attacks. However, two men died in the process. This incident spurred further speculations regarding the ice caves. Due to this incident, Morwen announces that exploring the caves will be held off until more information is gathered from the surrounding area.

Despite the severe blizzards and the Stoneback badgers on the city, summer in Avanthal will be fairly peaceful. All lingering tensions from the last two seasons had finally subsided, and all remaining disputes were settled between the Holds and its people.

Spring 513 AV :
Overview of Spring, 513

The Watchtower near Avanthal changes to a bright green to indicate the first of Spring and the return of Morwen. The Homecoming of Morwen is held on the first day of Spring to welcome back the goddess Queen. Some are nervous that Morwen will be upset with the city over the events of Winter but the compassionate goddess gives a speech that aids in setting the city to rights. The return of Morwen also means a return to the typical frigid temperatures and snowfall of the city.

Relations between the Holds are being repaired after the elders’ intervention in the late Winter season. Most citizens are going out of their way to spend time with individuals from other Holds in an attempt to forget the tensions of the previous season and unite the city once again. Icewatch breathes a sigh of relief as crime rates return to their normal levels and the elders go back to their usual activities. A few individuals who were deeply affected by the tensions from Winter still hold grudges about what has happened but they are in the minority of the citizen’s attitudes.

Early in the season rumors spread that a few hunters discovered a cave along the coast east of Avanthal that is suspected to have been revealed by shifting ice from the Winter season. Many are curious to know what it’s like inside the cave but few dare brave the dangerous Northern Wastes to find out. Later in the season a few brave citizens put out a call for courageous individuals to go investigate the cave along with a squad of Icewatch for protection.

Midway through the season several citizens spot a ghost wandering the graveyard. Friendly ghosts are typically left alone in the city but this ghost begins to make itself an annoyance and more citizens begin to complain about it’s presence. The family of the ghost calls on Jared Snowsong the local spiritist to deal with the problem. Jared has been feeling ill as of late and puts out a notice in the city for anyone willing to help him with the situation.

Additional events may be announced throughout the season…..

Winter 512 AV :
Overview of Winter 512 AV

The Watchtower changes to blue and Morwen leaves the city to spread Winter to the rest of Mizahar. With the winter goddess away, the weather has lightened around Avanthal and the city is slightly warmer. The city will remain frozen however, there will just be less snow storms and the cold will be slightly less frigid (so say 10 degrees F instead of -5 F). This has caused dangerous breaks in the ice frozen over the sea so fishing and certain hunting expeditions will have to be undertaken with considerably more care.

A rash of crimes breaks out mere days following Morwen’s absence and Icewatch is spread thin yet again. All during the season of Fall tension built between members of the various Holds, much rumbling ensued after the disaster and cleanup of the city following the Djed Storm of Spring, 512. Some felt that perhaps things had remained unfairly equal between the Holds for too long and with Morwen gone they see an opportunity to further their personal goals. Who these people exactly are however, remains a mystery. All that is known is that thefts, altercations, and sabotage both petty and serious have sharply risen for unknown reasons. Icewatch is unsure how to go about punishing crimes or even discovering the culprits as a hundred different fingers are pointed in as many directions and any citizen in Avanthal can be implicated for some crime or another.

With the line of crimes scattered throughout the city, the Icewatch must seek new ways to keep an eye out. There seems to be no evidence to be found at the scenes and witnesses are few in number. Much to the dismay of many citizens, the Icewatch once again gather up the mages in the city. Secret goings on are happening and the city is left in the dark as the Icewatch work with the mages. Rumors spread whether the mages are behind the crimes in retaliation for the earlier treatment or whether they are an asset to the city in this time of crisis.

Toward the middle of the season a string of murders shocks the city and plunges the citizens into a fearful hush. Everyone begins to question their neighbors and wonder if the city will ever be a safe home again. The death of Gensen Iceglaze and Kayin Frostfawn leave everyone wondering who will pick up the leadership in their stead and help lead the city out of its crisis. The shock is intensified when Layota Snowsong is arrested by the Icewatch in connection with the murders.

Jedara Whitevine temporarily steps down from her Icewatch duties to mourn the loss of her husband and hundreds of citizens lend their time and compassion to support her during her period of bereavement. The loss of leadership leads to confusion in Icewatch and Jaerith has stepped up to fill Jedara’s position while she is away.

Everyone in the city begins to feel as though they must look out for themselves and daily interactions become colder and more guarded. Parents are more protective of their children and rarely let them out of their sight. Many citizens wonder what the rest of the season will have in store.

The threat presented by wildlife in the previous season has been investigated though not alleviated. Armed with their knowledge of events Icewatch feels more confident about dealing with the problem and reopens the Icewall Gates to grant citizens access to the surrounding tundra. All citizens are warned to not venture too far from the city unless with a heavily armed and experienced party.

More events will be revealed with time…..

Fall 512 AV :
Overview of Fall, 512

As the Watchstone changes to red, Fall sees the Everwinter city rebuilt and covered in snow. Residents of the city begin to hope that things have returned to normal and the threads of their lives can continue without disruption. However, things are not as peaceful as they seem on the surface. A lot of grumbling has begun to circulate throughout the Holds of Avanthal as members reflect on the past two seasons. Some form the idea that certain Holds did not work at rebuilding the city as hard as others and wonder why their efforts were given the same recognition. There are rumors passing through the city that Frostfawn and Whitevine leaders have been meeting often in private though no one can say what it is they might be discussing. Many shrug off the rumors as idle gossip and insist that people are making a mountain out of an ice chunk.

As the season approaches midway other Hold leaders begin to take serious notice of the apparent closeness of Frostfawn and Whitevine. To be cautious, they begin to draw closer to some leaders and further apart from others. This suspicion and behavior trickles down to the ordinary Hold members and tensions rise in the city. Accidental bumps in the street are taken seriously and gruff words are passed. The number of drunken brawls in taverns increases sharply. The citizens of Avanthal that do not reside within the Holds also get nervous and wonder what this tension means for them.

Icewatch pays little attention to the rumors and whispers that are passing around the city. They have their hands full this season as they realize the aggression they dealt with from the local wildlife the past two seasons has not ceased. Predators roam much closer to the city then they used to and viciously attack groups that travel outside the city. Prey animals that usually run from hunters instead attack them. Even solitary predators that normally would stay clear of large patrols or hunting parties mindlessly attack any humanoid they detect. To keep citizens safe, Icewatch bars the Icewall Gates and forbids anyone to exit them without explicit permission. Meat supplies begin to grow low in the city and citizens clamor for an answer or solution. Veterinarians discuss what could possibly be causing the animals to act so uncharacteristically aggressive with few conclusive decisions.

Icewatch has also received several reports of strange wooden and icestone creatures in the city. Some of these creatures have attacked citizens and been defeated to find that they merely lifelike statues animated to life with djed. A rogue wizard is suspected to be the culprit and hiding somewhere in the city. Any publicly performed works of magic that occur outside of Icewatch sanctioned events are viewed with suspicion by guards and citizens alike.

After multiple attacks on mages in the city Icewatch feels the need to make some tough decisions for the protection of both mages and citizens. All known or suspected mages in the city are rounded up and quarantined in the Icewatch barracks for observation for several days. During this time mages are questioned, their expertise recorded, and hair samples collected in the event that the polar bears need to track them.

More will be revealed with time….

Summer 512 AV :
Overview of Summer, 512

This season is all about rebuilding and recovering from the effects of the Spring djed storm. By early summer the temperatures will have returned to a normal range as the djed effects have dissipated. This will allow for the city to begin rebuilding what was destroyed. Morwen has sent out a call to her people to help rebuild the city and restore it to normal. In support, the leaders of each Hold have promised rewards for anything their members do that helps restore Avanthal to its former glory. Rewards are not set in stone and will range from a simple monetary gift to high quality items that will aid an individual in their future endeavors. Rewards will be based on what an individual accomplishes and the amount of effort/detail they include in their thread. Those who go above and beyond with their efforts will have their names passed on to Jenna Aviak, and thus Morwen, for improved rewards at her discretion.

Due to the decrease in Iceglaze Hold’s population from the mining accidents of the previous season they will be asking for aid from all citizens with Morwen’s Gnosis marks or other relevant skills to help rebuild structures that have melted. Top priorities include Svanhildr and the Icewall Gates though all efforts towards rebuilding structures that suffered from melt will be noticed. Only the more experienced individuals will be allowed to work on Morwen’s castle. Iceglaze will also be recruiting individuals willing to help recover bodies from the Icestone mines and dig out the partially submerged Coolwater Hold and Frozen Falls Market.

The melting of the prison and city gates have resulted in escaped prisoners and invading wildlife that will be a continual problem for citizens. Most prisoners will stay close to the city but the more experienced will attempt to escape into the Northern Wilds. Invading wildlife will wreak havoc on the city, scaring many citizens into staying indoors and even attacking some of Frostfawn's livestock. Icewatch will be doing their utmost to recapture prisoners and defeat wild animals but will welcome any help regarding these efforts. It is advised that only citizens with combat skills attempt to apprehend criminals or defeat wild animals.

Those without combat or construction skills will still be able to help rebuild Avanthal. Skyglow will be rewarding artists who can return Avanthal to its former aesthetic, particularly by constructing new ice sculptures to fill in the empty Sculpture Yard. All other artistic accomplishments this season will also be rewarded for their efforts. Snowsong Hold will also be rewarding artistic efforts of a musical nature. Musicians who play publicly will be rewarded for improving overall morale.

Any other activities that can be reasonably justified as aiding in the rebuilding of Avanthal will be duly rewarded. Threads will be rewarded based on the effort and detail that is contained in that individual thread. Rewards will be given for each deed done but they will not compound (i.e. – The reward for your second accomplishment will be just as good as the reward for your fifth accomplishment as long as the effort given is the same). Please do not request specific rewards or ask for a different reward. I will try to be creative while still giving rewards that you will find useful.

At the end of the season a large festival will be held to celebrate the efforts of all those who have helped rebuild Avanthal. All those who have helped will be mentioned and thanked. Musicians and artists will be asked to perform or give demonstrations to show off the untarnished prowess and talent of the city’s citizens.

By mid-summer Vantha will find that their eyes have returned to normal and Kelvics will be able to shift again. Most of the other physical effects of the djed storm will have faded with the exception of those whose latent Vantha genes were brought to dominance by the djed. Those individuals will live with these changes permanently.

[Avanthal] Calendar of Events - Winter 513 AV

Postby Lullaby on December 1st, 2013, 3:05 am

Overview of Winter 513 AV

The start of Winter is marked with the renown flair of the Watchstones as they change to blue. The Queen Goddess of the city, Morwen, has departed to spread Winter to the rest of Mizahar, and with her left the extremities of the cold weather in Avanthal. The blizzards lighten, the air slightly less cold, and the sun more prominent, the city seems it would be livelier and content within these brighter months.

The foreboding air that lingered with the death of animals at Icewall Gates is hard to ignore though, and it is nestled deep within the atmosphere of the city as interactions between Holds grow tense and thin. It seems like a repetition of last year's Winter may yet appear, as petty crimes once more rattle Avanthal, and the promise Morwen left of a peaceful Winter. The Icewatch are soon seen everywhere within the city, and will not hesitate to question anyone they deem should be. With this measure, the crimes decrease once more, but the added eyes of the Icewatch do not lighten the tense atmosphere.

In an attempt to dispel the strained distrust between Holds, Frostfawn goes ahead - despite strong opposition - with their postponed hunts for Frostfawn Deer, and take a group of new hunters from various Holds into the wild. A few other groups are dispatched as well, to investigate the activity of the animals before Fall had ended. It is a relief as all return safely, though the Frostfawn Hold refuses to disclose any information they learned until they collect more.

During this time, a group of children start a huge snowball fight in the Frozen Falls Marketplace, and by association, many grown-ups also join in. This small event brings a smile to faces, and it creates new friends, as the sides where not done by Hold. A new event is introduced soon after, The Festival of Stories hosted mainly by the Snowsong Hold, but open to all. A night of dancing, storytelling, music, and singing, occurs in the Crystal Hall on a clear night that lifts spirits and many take impromptu lessons from the various skilled entertainers there.

The season winds down on a calm note, tensions subsided, and the Icewatch patrolling less, though their presence is still felt throughout the city as citizens continue to be stopped. It ends with the Snowflake Club having an open night of food and stories from the elderly, many young adults choosing to take the opportunity to ask advice from the older members of Avanthal. Winter ends with the exciting note of Morwen's return, and peace within the city.
