For Ricky to see Leila speak to Odis the way she had, he felt himself well up with emotion all over again. This time happiness filled him inside as he listened, listened and watched as Leila thanked Odis for saving him. She held his old companion in high esteem conpared to what others may think, her speech literally came from the heart that resided within and touched his. Ricky had no doubt Odis heard her and he would've been pleased, happy as can be to know that his master was moving on in this world. He gripped her hand more firmly with a sincere smile directed to her, and watched as even Shaco laid down to meet with his fallen brother. This moment... couldn't have been ever mmore beautiful. For Ricky to share this with a friend, it gave him a tremendous relief that he hadn't expected before. It was as if a pressure he never knew to bebe there lifted from his shoulders, and for the first time in a long while he didn't feel so alone after all. Not that he felt that way with Telion, for she too made him feel happy. Happy to be alive and here, to spend every waking moment loving her in his lifetime. Yet to feel love as strong as he did for her when around a different friend? There was no doubt about it, Leila would've been the one he'd spent his life with, had things taken a much different turn along his path.
There was a small feeling of guilt and regret that he felt within him, as he couldn't help but feel terrible about the way things turned out for Leila. He had sworn to himself in secret that he'd help her though, and he would always be there to take care of her. Thus his reasons were now justified, because now Leila proved today just how close of a real and true friend she could be for him. She had helped Ricky to lower his walls once more, practically breaking a shell he had made long ago. She set a perfect example for him, and because of this he wanted to be a good example for her. Though it may not have started off well with him never having the time to explain, he had made a promise when the season finally changed; a promise to get his shyke together and be the person he really wanted to be. For Leila he would be now and forever, the friend that always had her back when she needed him.
The both of them had allowed the tears the choked back to release, and for a good few chimes they would flow and let everything out. Ricky would put his arm over her shoulder, a friendly manner of comfort as any real friend would do. Along with this good mannered gesture he would pet Shaco, his heart filled with pure joy now that he had seen a most beautiful thing unravel before him. There was no doubt Shaco and Odis would've had much fun together, playing in the yard of Leila's new shop as the adults watched. Ricky could imagine the dogs watching over the dear child, as they would both take the responsibility of guardians for the baby. There was no doubt in his mind that his life with his family would be the best, even though his brother wasn't physically there to watch him.
"Thank you both... so much." His accent still clung as the full word was said, but just like when he first spoke it to Tel it felt right. However odd it may have sounded, he felt more inclined to express it. It was as if saying the full word gave it more meaning. As he wiped the tears from his eyes and cheeks he looked to Leila, a content smile replaced with a hearty one as he sincerely chuckled. Leila and Shaco being here really meant a lot to him, more than he even realized now that he thought about it. To say he was glad would only be an understatement. As he inhaled to speak he found himself cut off, as his attention had been caught by a man dressed in the familiar azure uniform he wore. It was Macki, one of the few he hardly ever talked to. He had short messy brown hair and green eyes and stood only a few inches taller then Leila, he was one of the less fit guards of the watch but he too took his job seriously after Kip's murder.
"You're wife told me you'd be here," he exclaimed as he rushed near them, "This is for you Ricky, you might want to keep it secret." Macki assured him with a quick glance to Leila, Ricky's faint smile at the mistake of Macki's assumption of him being wed disappeared as a folded parchment was handed to him. It had been sealed with wax and stamped with the emblem of the Wave Guard, a letter sent from the Offices. "See you at work today Ricky.... and good luck." He bowed respectively before departing, and after a few moments of wondering what the letter may contain Ricky finally looked to Leila. He wondered what it was he should keep secret, whatever it was the watch didn't want the public to know about it. Yet Leila wasn't just someone he could keep secrets from, not after everything he'd seen and experienced today. Ricky's somber face looked to the note and back to Leila, concern clear in his expression as he began to undo the parchment. In a moment Leila would be the first to be a part of Ricky's secrets, she would be again given with the greatest trust as he had given yesterday. Would she be ready to bear the burden of his secret?
oocI left off for Leila to react up to this point, so we can pick up with Ricky reading the note aloud in the next post.
