A Dinner With Fate

Postby Reign on June 7th, 2013, 7:25 pm

“Reign!” her mother’s shrill voice pierced the peaceful tranquility of her thoughts, shattering the calm composure Reign had spent the last ten minutes attempting to build; “Reign! Come dine with us…now!” Her mother was an impatient woman; and Reign would surely get an earful if she didn’t hurry. Apparently, someone important was dining with her family tonight; of course her mother had failed to specify exactly who. All she knew was that he was important. Selecting a sea shell incrusted comb from her counter, Reign hastily pulled the brush through her long chestnut brown hair, occasionally wincing when knots snagged on the smooth wood. It was beyond doubt that her sister had spent the entire day prepping for the event; scrubbing, powdering, and brushing; all of which tasks that Reign found to be quite useless.

Gingerly, Reign opened a little drawer to her right; selecting a white ribbon to tie back into her hair. According to her mother, Reign’s appearance was simply unbearable without a ribbon. Rising to her feet, Reign adjusted the lavish blue gown her mother had shoved towards her that morning. And although she often loathed the styles that her mother and sister endorsed Reign had to admit the dress was extremely beautiful. It fell around her like a graceful stream, the color as bright and blue as the sky on a summer day. The visitor had to be awfully important (or wealthy) for Reign to be called for dinner; usually she was ignored. Truly, only a stranger in her own house. Tensions in the house had been high ever since her brother Marx had pasted. Reign’s father, the only living individual in the house that didn’t scorn Reign on a daily basis, neglected to speak to her anymore; well anyone really, instead he just stared out of the large front windows, consumed by his grief.

“REIGN!”

“Coming mother!” A servant had tied Reign’s corset too tight, making breathing a task. Though her mother would approve, the lack of oxygen gave a red flush to her cheeks. Pausing, only to survey the spacious bedroom for other essential ornaments Reign hiked up her skirts and sprinted from the room.
"Don't make me the villain."
