Character Concept
Josiah is a young man primarily interested in adventure, seeing some new sights and flexing his muscles, so to speak. He was born something of a restless soul, and this is his first time out of Nyka, having signed on as a guard for a merchant's caravan, bound for Ravok. He is basically a pretty decent guy, though he can be a little hot headed at times. He's actually a bit naive, having been raised in a city where strict order is always enforced and thus having been protected from some of the uglier aspects of humanity, seeing as he himself never ran afoul of the monks. Joe might in modern days be diagnosed with ADHD, in that he has a very hard time being physically still and he craves stimulation and movement. He's quick to smile and laugh, though and is friendly to most, and far from a black-hearted foe even to those he doesn't agree with or approve of. Though skilled with a sword (and learning to be with a bow) he's neither blood thirsty nor overly aggressive or confrontational.
Character History
Josiah was born last of three sons to a blacksmith who resided in the Northern Quarter of Nyka - that devoted to Uphis of the sharp blade. His father, and eventually his older brothers, were skilled at weapon craft, in addition to making more mundane items at their forge. Joe, on the other hand (only his father ever calls him Josiah and then only when he is in trouble) was much more interested in learning how to wield the weapons his family made. With the thought of one day perhaps joining the monks, he found several men who were willing to teach him sword play, and he seemed to have some talent for it. However, the banality of day in and day out existence as a monk of Uphis did not seem attractive to the boy. So he let go of the idea of joining their ranks and instead planned on leaving Nyka altogether to go seek his fortunes elsewhere. His parents, who thought this idea was the height of folly, convinced him to do something betwixt and between, and his father found him a position as a guard with a trade caravan that was leaving the city, heading to Ravok. Joe was over the top with excitement, and the trip to Ravok, though relatively uneventful, gave him his first taste of living in the wilds and away from the trappings of "civilization." On the trip, others in the caravan began to teach him about hunting, land navigation, the use of the short bow, and some aspects of wilderness survival.
They have reached Ravok without incident and now he is cooling his heels in the floating city, exploring its mysteries and eager to spend some of his first paycheck, while he awaits the return journey back to Nyka.
