A Couple Of Letters

17th Summer, 513AV

Tsaba kept the folded sheets of parchment clutched tightly in her hand as she headed along the docks. It would be just her luck to have them blow off into the sea. Trying to stay out of the way of busy sailors and dock workers, she swept her gaze over the large ships. There were so many, and she couldn't be sure what her target even looked like...

There! The Saga Shooter, clearly labelled. Tsaba strode over, trying to look like she knew what she was doing, and hailed a sailor.

The sailor looked her up and down. "Heading home, then? We set sail tomorrow. You bringing any luggage?"

"Oh, no, not me. I have some mail. Could you...?"

"Not a problem. Delivery fee's a couple of coppers,unless the recipient's payin'."

Tsaba pushed two copper mizas into the sailor's hand, followed by the letters. He stuffed them in his belt. She felt tempted to add something like 'please don't get them wet', but it struck her that giving such juvenile advice to a sailor was probably downright offensive.

"Right. Thanks. Thank you."

"Not a problem, Miss. Anythin' else I can to fer ya?"

"No, that's it. Thank you."

With a shrug, the sailor got back to work. Tsaba wandered away. Could she trust the sailor to deliver the letters? Probably. It was his job, after all; all he had to do was put them with the other cargo. Probably secretly, while keeping the Mizas. That wasn't her problem.

But the issue was almost entirely out of her hands now. Almost entirely.

A Couple Of Letters

Postby Tsaba on June 25th, 2013, 7:40 am

Tsaba ignored the tense and sullen atmosphere in the Denvali quarter as she searched for the temple. The building wasn't hard to find; everything from its size to its very stone stood out as a beacon of Zeltivan glory. Tsaba had thought that the library was impressive compared to most of Zeltiva, but the library was merely large and fancy; the temple was something else, something special. She stared wide-eyed at the giant pillars as she passed between them, and froze.

Was that...?

Tsaba peered closer. It was! The pillars weren't even stone! At least, not normal stone. Unless an extremely tiny, extremely talented carver had been hard at work for an extremely long time, the pillar was made of very tiny animal shells, all fused together. She brushed her fingertips along it to make sure it wasn't some sort of illusion; sure enough, the rough edges of shell and bone bit at her fingers. She was tempted to have a look at the aura... but even she knew better than to just point her Auristic sight at a holy place. That sounded like a great way to go blind or something.

She continued on into the temple, glancing about at the other patrons for some guidance on how to behave. From the inside, the temple's size didn't seem so impressive, at least in comparison with Sahova, but the walls... the walls were covered in a rich marine mural, a chaos of painted scenes melding into each other, and over it all rose the God Laviku. Tsaba squinted at the paintwork, although she wasn't sure why; she knew nothing about painting. It made her want to learn, though.

After a while, she headed toward the candlelit altar. She wasn't really sure how to do the next part; gods had never been a major part of her life.

"Laviku," she murmured. Was that respectful enough? Did he have a title? She was sure he did. She should've done some research beforehand. "Lord Laviku, thank you for allowing us passage on your ocean all these years. Please, safeguard my letters, that they might reach my father." She carefully placed two gold mizas on the edge of the altar, gave the painting of Laviku on the wall a small bow, and left.

As Tsaba left the room painted with the wonder of the sea behind, a perfect view of the real thing opened up before her. She took a deep breath, and smelled the sea breeze laden with salt... could she smell the seaweed at such a distance, or was that her imagination?... and saw the glimmer of sunlight dancing on the waves.

It didn't matter how far she travelled. It didn't matter where she went. Every territory had a shore to the ocean. And the ocean lead right back to her father.
