~|--|~ 80th, Summer, 391AV, Morning [indent]Lacerta was… wandering. She didn’t know quite why she was wandering, she just was. Curiosity had brought her to the edges of the wilderness, just around the city. It was… pretty, to say the least, and very calming, as she was out in the silence, alone, away from… people. It was a nice feeling. Well, it wasn’t entirely silent, as she could still barely hear the noises of animals, and the sound of nature. It also wasn’t completely isolated either, as Lhavit was still in plain sight, it’s towers rising high for her to see. Still, it was some of the first seriously alone time she’d had, since she’d arrived in the city, barely two seasons before. It had taken her a while to get used to the place, but she found it interesting, with the magnificent structures, and large population of Ethaefal. As she meandered around, one sound in particular caught her ear. A… cooing. Sort of like a bird’s call, but… it sounded different. The Eth wandered around curiously, trying to find where the noise was coming from. True, it could be a dangerous animal, but somehow… she doubted that. It took a few moments of searching through the trees, but she found her quarry: a medium-sized grey owl, with two tufts sticking out of its head, almost like… horns. The most noticeable feature, however, was its wing, which was slumped on the ground, bleeding, and sitting at an awkward angle. As she approached, the bird hissed and hopped away a few steps. Lacerta crouched down, staring at it, not quite sure what to do. There were several chimes of this intense staring, the Eth gazing at the owl in confusion, the bird glaring at the figure before it. Neither seemed to know what to do in such a situation. The horned owl was mostly helpless, it couldn’t fly, and seemed to know it wouldn’t be able to run away so easily. Lacerta, on the other hand, was entranced by the animal. It was so beautiful, despite its ragged appearance. She wanted to help him… but didn’t know how. How would one approach an owl, without it biting of their finger? The creature certainly seemed prepared to do such a thing, beak wide open and hissing. It also seemed to be hiding one of its wings behind its back, the damaged one, seemingly for protection. The Eth sighed, and, taking a chance, began to slowly move one of her fingers towards the owl. At first, it hissed more, surprised and scared at the steadily approaching ‘attacker’. But as the appendage drew closer and closer, making no threatening moves, and not actually doing anything, the bird seemed to relax a bit. Just a bit. It took nearly a chime of waiting, until she could finally bring her finger closer to the bird’s beak. With a small tap, she rested it on the funny mouth. There was a moment of hesitation, where both the owl and the Eth stared at the finger, equally surprised. Then, apparently regaining its senses, the horned owl lunged forwards and snapped at the finger, which was quickly brought away, just in time. Noise penetrated the silence, as Lacerta herself fell over from her crouching position, and the bird hopped back another step, wings spread to make itself larger. The Ethaefal sighed and pushed herself back up, leaning on her forearms, thinking. She didn’t have a coat… how could she trap the bird. Well… patience had gotten her this close, she might as well try again. She shuffled closer to the creature, gaining a wary look, but no movement. She sat, cross legged, a few feet from the bird, and once again, slowly stretched out her arm. It occurred to her as she did this how amazing it was to sit so close to such an excellent predator, despite being in an injured state. The owl hissed at the finger, worried, but it didn’t seem as… violent, as before. It allowed the finger to touch its beak gently, and trebled slightly as it moved up onto its feathers, those between its eyes. Somehow, the owl managed to watch both the finger and the person at the same time , and was prepared to jump at any time. Lacerta, whose reach was ending, and was practically leaning forward, tried to take a chance. She shuffled forward a bit, attempting to keep her hand on the owl’s forehead as she did so. However, moving forward caused the pressure to increase for a moment, and the bird obviously disliked that. Sensing the change, it screeched and hopped back a step, glaring at the Eth. This time not with fear, but just… annoyance. It seemed to consider her less as a threat, and more as an… irritating person intruding on its personal space. The Eth gave an exasperated sigh and followed, moving forward a little more than it had moved back. The owl now quickly glanced at the space between them and back, mistrusting the figure, and disliking the close proximities. Still, it did not complain. Now that they were close enough, the Ethaefal was going to try something… different, and possibly stupid. This time when she reached for the owl, she used both hands, causing the bird to glance between them rapidly, swiveling its neck. She rested her hands on both sides of its body, now leaning quite far forward. She took a deep breath… and squeezed, grabbing the bird and bringing it close to her chest. She clutched it there, curling herself around the panicked owl, hoping it wouldn’t hate her for this. She didn’t know why she cared about the long term… she just did. She adjusted her grip a few times, careful not to hurt the already injured wing more. That done, she held on, and waited. Whilst she patiently sat there, the owl itself struggled madly, biting, scratching, flapping its good wing. It screeched at her several time, enraged, indignant at its treatment. It was also afraid that the person had been dangerous, and feared the worst. Still, as much as it fought, even drawing blood, it got nowhere. After maybe fifteen chimes of this constant battle, it slowed, exhausted, and giving up. At that time, both relaxed, tired, bleeding, and generally unhappy. Lacerta contemplated about the event, wondering if it had actually been worth it or not. Thinking back on it, now clutching a magnificent owl… it was worth it. She sighed happily and wrapped her arms around the bird, and set off back to the city, in search of her boat. There, she could relax and think about things properly. For example, why, in the first place, she was carrying an owl. The Owl :
