APPEARANCE

Taller than several women of her age and race, Franciska stands at 5’4” and weighs about 110 lbs. She has a slim athletic build, arms and legs toned quite nicely from training. Franciska’s hair is a dark auburn complimented with golden highlights. When in the sunlight, her hair shimmers with a soft reddish hue. She prefers to keep her locks short, falling in unruly waves to her shoulders.

CHARACTER CONCEPT

ImageFranciska comes across to others as proud and strong, undaunted by anything bad that comes her way. She is seemingly one to face difficulties head-on, undeterred by the prospect of danger and failure. However, this personality is a front that protects a very vulnerable and insecure girl, a side to herself that she finds extremely shameful.

She tends to be aloof and indifferent around people she has yet to befriend, except in the cases of children and the elderly. Franciska finds joy in acting as a sister figure to kids because she sees her younger brother in them. For the elderly, Franciska has nothing but courtesy and deep respect of their profound wisdom.

Franciska also has a strong need to be self-sufficient, and has a great difficulty of dealing with her self-perceived failure during times she needs help from others. Due to this, Franciska does not tolerate mistakes, and can therefore be hard on herself when she does commit one. She is very serious about work and gives her best in whatever she does. Once she had set her mind on something, it is almost impossible to derail Franciska from her goal unless there’s a very good reason to do so.

Due to her strong sense of righteousness, and somehow because of her passionate nature as well, Franciska often finds herself in various compromising situations. It is hard to gain Franciska’s trust and friendship, but once she warms up to someone she will be an unwaveringly loyal friend. In fact, it is not uncommon for one to witness outbursts of temper when the people she cares about are harmed or insulted in the slightest.

Some tidbits about Franciska:
  • She hates her name very much and prefers to go by her nickname, Ciska.
  • She has a great fondness for anything sweet, but flavored snow is her favorite.
  • Ciska is a neat freak. She likes to have every element in her life to be tidy and in order.
  • She is quite conscious of her eyebrows but will vehemently deny this when pointed out.
  • She is embarrassed of her more feminine side and therefore tries to cover it up with a tough front.
  • Her role model is Jedara Whitevine, and her dream is to become the next Vantiguida of Icewatch.


CHARACTER HISTORY

Born on the last day of Winter, Franciska is the eldest daughter of Lethia and Durwin Whitevine. She was named after her father’s visitor friend’s son, Francisco. This will be a source of resentment for the young Vantha later on in life.

Most of her childhood was centered around medicine and healing. Her father, Durwin, was a distinguished medical surgeon, and Lethia, her mother, was a horse trainer turned veterinarian after she married into Whitevine Hold. She had a carefree and blissful childhood, nurtured by loving parents and doting grandparents.

ImageThree years after Franciska was born, the couple welcomed another little bundle of joy, the energetic baby boy Jaris. Franciska immediately warmed up to the new addition to the family, taking it upon herself to care for the young boy whenever their parents are too busy with work. Jaris, in turn, promised his sister that he will join Icewatch one day so he can always protect his sister whom he absolutely adores. While growing up, brother and sister were almost never seen without the other.

Due to her father’s occasional bouts of wanderlust, Franciska was quite well-traveled at such a young age. She had already visited places such as The Spires at seven years old, and Wind Reach at nine. Often the man would bring his whole family on short trips to these cities as recompense for the moments he could not spend with them due to work.

Tragedy struck a few days after the young Franciska’s tenth birthday. While the family was staying at The Spires, a small misunderstanding between Franciska and Jaris quickly escalated into the first major fight between the siblings. The younger Whitevine took it harder than his sister, and fled to the outskirts of the arboreal city. A search soon ensued for the spirited young boy. Franciska, in her guilt, secretly followed her distraught parents combing the edges of the city for Jaris. They were worried that he might venture from the city too far, to an area where Ziths had marked as their territory.

Just as they had feared, their boy was already trying to flee one of the winged beasts. Her parents had immediately ran to their son’s rescue, but their efforts ended in vain and was ruthlessly killed before Franciska, who was fixed to her hiding spot out of horror. When she finally came to her senses, she was already being cared for back at The Spires. Soon, her grandparents took her back home, along with the lifeless bodies of her family.

Ever since that day, she had hated her lack of strength, blaming herself for being unable to protect her family. On their funeral, she refused to cry. Instead, she vowed to get stronger in order to spare other people from losing those important to them, too. And of course, Franciska knows she will one day exact vengeance on the monsters that took the lives of those she loves.

The singularly marked individual is completely at ease in the cold. The presence of Morwen’s mark acts as antifreeze that warms the individuals blood and keeps them comfortable even in subzero temperatures. Exposed tissue can still freeze when faced with severe temperatures, but individuals are not at all prone to hypothermia if they are well protected against the weather. They may in fact even feel ‘comfortable’ in colder climates and indeed uncomfortable in warmer climates. At this stage, Ice Reavers can control the temperature of ice, melting it or freezing it in small portions. It is not unheard of for an Ice Reaver to scoop up a pot of snow, tap their gnosis, and have a pot of ice water instead ready for cooking. Ice Reavers at this level have the ability to tell how thick a piece of ice is - such as the surface of a lake - and can determine whether it is safe or not to hold weight. At this level, Ice Reavers can tap their gnoses and shape ice that is already formed as sculptors might - loosening and causing it to shed away until the pattern they want is formed. Ice Reavers at this level cannot create ice nor manipulate large portions of ice. They cannot, for example, thaw portions of a surface of a lake, but they can take the existing ice and reshape it or melt it. They can only change the viscosity of about a standard 10 gallons of water at a time. If conditions are cold and they try to repeat this process over and over again to achieve what a higher level Ice Reaver could, they would find their manipulations refreezing behind them as they worked.

ImageFranciska’s mother, Lethia, was very fond of jewelries during her life, and it had been her hobby to craft them out of old and seemingly useless materials.

The pendant is made of a small chunk of icestone, wrapped in copper wire. The icestone was carved into an oval shape and polished until it gained a glass-like luster. It is attached by a small loop to a string of braided twine.

She received this pendant as a birthday gift on her tenth birthday, shortly before her family’s deaths. It holds a special place in her heart as it is the last memento she has of her mother. She always has it around her neck, worn under her tunic to keep it obscured from thieving hands.

 
Housing
Ciska currently lives with her grandparents in an arvinta at Whitevine Hold. Being a solo child, she occupies a 20x20 room by herself. Her room only contains the barest necessities. She pays 135 gold-rimmed mizas per season as her contribution to their arvinta’s upkeep.

Each Arvinta consists of a communal meeting or sitting room. Then there are private rooms for couples, and a common sleeping/living room for all the children. Some of the larger, more expansive Holds with wealthier families have spare rooms in their Arvinta or special guest quarters when people move from place to place visiting.
