Cin doubted that a whole seasons pay could get her a horse, but the Konti probably was an Avora, with her magic and stuff, when Cin was just a Stable Manager. So she figured it was more probable with Iosha than herself. But she only nodded at the girl when she mentioned that, impressed though, of course.
Cin chuckled, though, at the seahorse comment. "Well you would know, you live in two worlds. I don't think I've ever even seen a seahorse. Besides those small ones in the tide pools at Thunderbay sometimes. But the mount ones, they must be huge." She was surprised though that a seahorse, the horse of the sea as its name described, could be slow. She would die to be able to survive in water, and ride a seahorse... But she was being carried away and shook her head before focusing back on what Iosha was saying.
In a city with Deks that probably get injured and die everyday, with a heat like this, and those Endals and their birds needing constant care, Cin-Cin could see what Iosha meant with squeezing in her personal time. Not to mention the random stumbles with Cin and that creature that stabbed her... She actually had wanted to ask Iosha what that was... But that could wait. They needed training first.
She was flattered, though, when the Konti invited her along to the Twin Lakes. Her shift was almost up, probably would be over by the time she finished training Iosha and Moonfire. And Try would just love it. He would catch some fish, he loves fish... But she took a worried look at the horses in the stalls. Yeah, by the time her shift ended it would only be a few more bells before the sun started to go down and the heat lessened. But they were still in a volcano, or at least directly next to one, it would always be hot. And she knew they were uncomfortable. The Deks would have to be working all night taking care of them... Cin had even brought in 4 more Deks to help out this Season. Poor Kami would have to stay the night to be available immediately if a horse got in trouble. Cin herself was on call if the Deks needed monitoring.
But she couldn't watch them all day. And she had to spend some time with Try, she knew he was dying in this heat too. And, oh, he would just die for some fish... He didn't mind the water either. Yeah, she would go, treat Try to a treat and then she would be able to escort the two back and make sure Moonfire was okay when they were all done. Then she could take one last peek at the other horses, make sure they were okay. She would do that.
"Thank you, Iosha. I appreciate the offer, and I will gladly accept. Try, you remember Try, my bird? Well he would love to get out to the water too. He likes fishing. Thank you." She said, smiling and nodding at the Healer.
And as Iosha picked out the Courtyard, instead of outiside, Cin had to sigh a bit in relief. Damn it would suck outside. Anyway he pulled Moonfire by the lead and lead the pair to the courtyard, listening while Iosha asked another question.
If you don't have access to a stable. "So you mean if you had him, say on a long ride or something? Well, thats a bit of a tough question. I may look like an expert because I work here, but I'm not... But I do know a little." Cin sighed, exploring her brain for the answer, she knew it was there somewhere. "The thing about horses is no matter how tame they seem they are still wild animals. They have instincts to survive in this kind of weather. Of course this weather is kind of extreme." It was crazy really. "They know how to take care of themselves. But if you are really worried there are a few things you can do. Of course the obvious are very good. Give them plenty of water, the colder the better, and keep them in the shade. Going underground, though usually undesirable to the horse, can cool them down as its not that hot down there. Taking them to large bodies of water, like the Twin Lakes, is awesome. Also moist food is good so they don't dry out their mouth. If you noticed we are giving the horses a lot of moss from the Underground Forest, moist food." She smiled at herself, she was good. "But really there's not that much else you can do. Of course if your horse gets heat stroke I'm sure you can just heal 'em on up like you did me with your magic!" She said enthusiastically.
They had made it to the courtyard. It was a large round stone based room that had been carved out of the mountain itself. Although its floor is stone, it was also covered in tons and tons of sand from Thunderbay that the Endals were kind enough to transport. The sand made it easy on the hard working and training horse's feet. Usually this was used for the winter, to get away from snow, but since i was so hot, this would do as well. Unfortunately the sand was a little less than normal, but nothing that would injure the horses at all.
"Here we are, Iosha. Before we begin there's a couple of things to do first." Here she let go of Moonfire, and he went pacing around the sand, happy to be out of his stall. "Having a horse and learning how to ride him is not all getting on the horse and riding, if you know what I mean. Moonfire seems to trust you well enough, but you have to maintain that trust. First we should brush him, well you should. Maybe wash him a bit. There are buckets and water, as well as brushes, all around the perimeter." She then walked up to Moonfire, talking to Iosha the entire way, but this alerted Moonfire to her location.
"You take him by the rope, or the lead, and lead him to the water or wherever you want to wash him. But if you will can you do it where the sand isnt?" She said gesturing to the ring around the edge. "Wet sand takes forever to dry in this humidity." She laughed then continued. "Do not look back at your horse when you lead him, this shows dominance." She showed Iosha by grabbing the horse's rope and leading him, looking straight ahead the entire time, to a water trough. He did not drink, only waited patiently until Cin-Cin dropped the rope again. You an lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink.
"I know this may seem like a waste of time, but it is a very important step to mutual trust. Next we will get onto saddling your horse, unless you want to bareback?" She asked Iosha. If she said yes to the saddle Cin-Cin would walk out of the courtyard and summon a Dek to grab one out of the tack room, along with the other necessary items and he would be back soon. If not she would continue to watch Iosha and Moonfire.
