60th Summer 513AV

It was thick and heavy with the weight of clouds. The deep black in the sky had smothered the sun from view, and dipped the once summer sky into darkness. Sound had been sapped from the air, the birds silent, and the wildlife having simply scuttled away into their holes with a deep resounding fear. The once hot and clammy air had grown still and stagnant with heat, tense and suffocating. It started as a patter, gentle droplets of water falling upon the dried earth, a faint beat in rhythm sounding out. An odd whistle from a bird came out from the canopy of leaves, branches dipping to the weight of the rain with a low creak escaping. The flora was crunched underfoot, the yellowed grass and leaves giving to the weight. There was only a momentary pause from the movement, and the heavy feet went forth once more.

The rain grew heavier, the hot air growing moist and thick with it. A scuffle of movement marked the signs of those last foolish creatures that remained exposed. The once dried ground began to grow damp, the runoff of water seeping down into the cracks and saturating it. It bulged, pores widening as the downpour raced down from the sky, whilst the faint clatter of a blade in its sheath clinking in pattern with the rain.

And then it came. The rolling clap of thunder sliced the air that cut out the beat of the rain upon the ground before it faded into nothing. It grew heavier, the droplets of water crashing onto the earth no longer a patter but instead a constant stream. Limbs grew pale and numbed, clothes plastered against the skin. Her lips gave a tremble, a cold breath escaping as she pushed forwards. Boots pressed against the ground, faint tracks being left within the earth as she went on. Instinct was what drew her forward, if it could even be called that. Her thoughts and emotions had been snuffed out after what happened or most of them at least. She could still feel the torment grip so tightly upon her, so much so that it drowned the rest of the world out.

She found it safer that way. Blocking it all out and shrinking back into herself. No one could ever chase her back to there after all.

Dulled eyes stared up onto the cloudy sky, the flecks of water catching upon her drawn features and tracing their way down to her lips. The thick, moist air was the only thing to greet her, and the only company she carried alongside. Par the clothes on her back and the sling that gave her shoulder grace from the weight of her left arm. The pain was still raw and present, the knowledge sealed deep within that whispered to her again and again. She could never have fought back, even if she wanted to. She was a failure. A second roll of thunder was released again paired this time with a faint flash in the sky. Yet nothing stirred within her. There was no care for it as vacant eyes stared above. Even as her feet snagged up and the mighty roar of the sky filled the air, all she could muster was to let her knees touch the ground, and her form crumple.

Upon the soaked earth she stared, her eyes fixed upon the heavens and the rain lashing down. There was no strength to move, no heart to find courage, no will left to drag out. Nothing more than a dwindling, empty husk, a faint light that could be snuffed out within an instant. And by the gods it hurt.

OOCA heads up, Fal. Kouri's level of Materialization is now enough for her to be utterly indistinguishable from a normal human to the naked eye. But using Auristics or sufficiently touch her with enough physical force would blow her cover. :D

A storm, it reminded Kouri of the raging Blizzard in Avanthal, Taldera... her home. It was similar yet different at the same time, no violent snow or ice could be seen, it was all thunder, raindrops, and wind, not as cold as Taldera but still cold enough to shudder those who were not used to the cold.

"Hmmm..." A calm sigh escaped the little girl's lips, she was taking her usual stroll in the Woods and just came back from checking her treasure hole on her favorite tree. She didn't bring Rena with her, seeing the boom of thunders. Sure, they couldn't possibly be hurt by these natural forces but Rena was still afraid of the loud sounds. The little sister decided to stay in the safety of the Fortress, specifically at their rented room in the Traveler's Row.

It seemed like nothing interesting was happening other than this pesky storm, Kouri didn't see Ama today, the dire wolf Kelvic was most likely taking a shelter somewhere. She also didn't see Sir Noaru, the ancient spirit, Kouri could only wonder where he was. Sighing once more, Kouri flicked her knee-length black hair and blinked her sapphire blue eyes. Yes, she was not 'Kouri the phantom little girl' right now. Currently, she was taking the appearance of her original body when she was still alive. She needed to get used to this visual disguise if she wanted to flawlessly pass of as a normal human, Kouri also took the name 'Lycoris' as her new fake name.

Lycoris calmly walked back, heading to the Fortress City to go home, she almost got this, walking instead of floating, using normal entrances such as gates and doors instead of phasing through walls, and suppressing her aura to pass off as a normal harmless little girl.

After a few moments and thunder booms later... Lycoris' sapphire eyes spotted... It can't be... Madame Wulvenhart, knees on the ground, body drenched in raindrops, and seemingly to not move. "A..." She wanted to help her, the seemingly calm Madame Wulvenhart looked so broken... what exactly did happened? She ran to Wulvenhart and was about to greet her when..

*BAM!!!*

A very loud sound akin to an explosion erupted in the area, a lightning has just struck a tree near to Wulvenhart's location, it erupted in flames and its trunk was shattered to pieces at the center. It quickly fell down and would smash Wulvenhart, that wasn't acceptable. Screw the disguise, still materialized and drenching wet, Lycoris blinked to beside Wulvenhart, focused the power of her soulmist projection on her right fist and... "HA!!!" punched the falling trunk with her full power, but... the trunk proved too big and heavy for her and.. "WHA- NO NO NO N-!!" promtly squahed her materialized body beneath its weight, what was visible of Lyco was her lithe pale hand sticking out from beneath the trunk.

Lyco wasn't dead... she already experienced it once. The rest of her body that got squashed turned into clouds of soulmist.

Lightning raged within the skies, thunder like a wild beast caused the air to tremble with its roar. Tiny droplets of water so fine and delicate were treated harshly by the strong wind. The sky was darkened but night was far from here--this was due to the encroaching presence of a storm. A figure looked towards the heavens above, his eyes, cold eyes captured the turmoil that was unfolding. He scrutinized the skies, the dancing streaks of lightning never leaving his gaze. He was waiting for something: a moment to happen and then... it happened.

A bolt of lightning cackles as it strokes the earth! Noaru, amongst the very top of the tree's could not see what it touched but he knew, he knew it had to hit something. Invisible to the world around him, he was nothing more than a force at the moment--a shapeless nigh unseeable form. He descends to the forest below, traveling through the branches in swift, swaying movements. The trees swayed and jerked in the wind, as it pressed on relentlessly; tree leafs and branches snapped from the treetops and tumbled past him--like the wind, he rushed and pressed on. The sudden sound of wood being smashed resonates through the forest and Noaru pauses in his movements, quietly he observed the wilderness around him, as he tries to grasp where the sounds origin came from.

The spirit ventured in the direction where the sound seemed the loudest. Noaru didn't take long in noticing the sudden feel of a ghost, he stops after sensing a ghost was nearby and observes from a distance. He only vaguely noticed the ghostly presence; it takes awhile for him to distinguish presences he's only met once or twice. The presence suddenly weakens, almost barely noticeable, did something happen?

The spirit was unsure, he wanted to see what caused the presence to become so faint. The seconds passed quickly and Noaru was quietly approaching the scene, it was only when he passed several tree's that he was able to see where the lightning had struck. Noaru kept quiet, as he descends from the tree's to the ground floor, he could see someone lying on the ground and a hand beneath a fallen tree trunk.

....

The temperature drops with a deep chill and a black shape
takes form in the center of this coldness; it sways and jerks like a mad flame. This blackness touches the forest floor but then rises again--in the shape of a humanoid figure. The spirit then quietly observes for signs of life and movement.

[The Bronze Wood] Rolling Thunder

Lightning rolled and thunder roared. It reverberated through the trees a growing cry turning into a piercing scream as they swayed violently. The icy summer rain lashed down as the wood groaned and cracked. Light raced through the sky, a crack and explosion of noise reaching her ears with the tinge of burning reaching her nostrils. Not that it lasted long, for quickly the scent was covered in that of the cold, wet ground. Eyes stared up to the sky, slowly blinking a vacant expression carved upon her face. Her hair had turned dark, wet and plastered against her skin, her lips a dull shade.

Her body trembled as the might crashing tree reverberated, her form forced into movement out of reflex. She threw herself to the side. The squire’s shoulder crashed against the earth, cold eyes staring upon debris. There was a shudder as she cradled her slung arm against her, a vacant mind unsure on what had truly just happened. Was there a shout before the mighty crash? A cry of a noise? She pressed a foot from underneath her and staggered up. She gave a sway, an unsteady step backwards as her sodden form hunched in.

A storm? Yes, a storm. Outside. Mighty thunder. Flashing lightning. Sound noise.

She went to the side, arms gripping onto the soaked fabric that clothed her. A spark of thought dwelled in the recesses of her mind, a piercing light that dwelled there only for a chime. Her jaw tensed, an underlying whine growing as the spark grew. She was a failure. She was a weakling. She should just disappear. The world came crushing down around her. Eyes widened as distress commanded her, her chest tightening as she remembered what had happened. She did not want to remember. She wanted to forget. To bury it and leave it to rot. She gave a laboured breath, hot breath escaping. The taste of salt rested on her lips as she felt her skin flush and turn red. Her eyes stung, her head beginning to throb as she tried to fight back the rising feeling inside of her. To resist crying out and letting out a wailing howl into the stormy sky.

Coward. Weak. Should just run.

"G-gahak! Aaaaaaah!" With the immense pain that was wrecking through her soulmist body, Kouri automatically unmaterialized herself and her crushed form and hand phased through the tree, her shape was now like a white fluffy cloud with a child-like hand sticking out from its body. "Ouch... that... that was stupid of me..." Kouri the soulmist cloud thought out loud, her voice full of pain and regret at her own stupidity. She should have just tried to pull Wulvenhart away by dragging her on the ground.

The cloud slowly formed into her humanoid form with her usual white hair and crimson eyes. Ah? M-adame?! I hope... oh... For a second, Kouri was utterly worried Wulvenhart might be crushed under the trunk as well, but thankfully, she was alright... in a sense, the empty look on her eyes told her something was definitely wrong though. Before that, Kouri also visibly facepalmed herself Madame wasn't even in tree's way!! I got myself crushed for nothing! How stupid can I be?!

Her own blunder aside, Wulvenhart was the first priority, she could get sick and struck by lightning if she stayed like that so Kouri wanted to move but her vision blurred and shook just by trying, that trunk really heavily damaged her, it was already an achievement for her to be not forced into a hibernating state to recover.

"M-madame Wulvenhart?! Are you alright?! You'll get sick if you stay in the rain like that!" She opted to just shout, voice was never really an issue for ghosts anyway.

He stood amongst the tree's, listening and watching. Noaru, was now able to confirm that the presence did indeed belong to a ghost and the exhausted body--was that of a human. The rain made listening difficult, annoying the spirit as he tries to stealthily understand the situation from Fallons and Kouri's voices. Tiny droplets of water that touch the spirit, turned to darkened forms made of ice and soulmist--they draped off the tall figure, as he lays amongst the tree's.

The spirit noticing that the ghost didn't manifest completely, believed that it had possibly taken damage. The situation, from his perspective, didn't seem dire and he saw no need to interfere. Noaru continued to observe though, just in case, as water froze in the air around him and on his soulmist.

[The Bronze Wood] Rolling Thunder

Eyes stared as shapes twisted and turned before her. Strains of mist and steam ripped itself from beneath the tree. Lips gave a tremble, a glazed look fixed as the hum of words reached her ears. There was movement, the roar of rain between the summer branches, as eyes turned to the world. Watching, all judging in their silent chorus. The trees of the Bronze woods stood tall against the weather, whilst those who existed within trembled and shuddered. She looked down upon the saturated earth, the moisture quickly being sucked up into it.

She could not bring out a voice to speak, no will to answer the spirit that stood before her, the tone of worry ringing out above the beating rain. The thunder gave a rumble several ticks after a flash. Her right hand brushed the plastered hair from her face, the pale skin almost glowing. The squire had heard the shout from Fubuki, her cold fingers clenching slightly as she tried to understand what was going on. A wince, followed by a shudder as she made herself rise. A foot pressed against the ground, knees bending as she rose. A hand reached out to grasp at the tree, a stagger towards it as she awakened stiff limbs.

Rain. Thunder. Woods , her mind slowly turned over as thought became restored to her. If it could be even called that. The spark of thought ignited and raged, growing bright as it flooded in. She gave a slip, a stagger out from underneath the branches of the tree as she looked upon the ghost. A flash of panic rose, the light framing her features for a tick, as reality dawned on her. A hand squeezed her bad shoulder, a memory resting in place. Her heart gave a wrench, twisting and tightening until it registered the words of the ghost.

“Yes, yes. I… I’m fine. I…” Fingers rubbed at her nose, her brow creasing into a frown. No, no. Nothing is right… wake up. Get out this dream. Gods why?

Fubuki Kouri

"Madame... even I can see that you are not fine..." True, even a child like her could see that the woman looked visibly sick, broken, and exhausted. The storm was not helping her case, Wulvenhart was not a ghost like herself and was affected by the physical matters of the world. "No... Madame, you will die if you stay like that..." Kouri was getting worried, really worried.... but then, something clicked within her mind Little Princess, you do realize if she dies then she may become a ghost... and then you can play with her forever and ever... and ever~

"....." A smile curled up from her lips as Kouri went from being worried to delighted. The thought of gaining a new ghostly friend excited her "Uhm... you're right, Madame... you are alright, just stay there and rest... it's all going to be alright..." She eerily giggled, her voice echoed in the air.

Now there's the matter of finding a way to regain some of her soulmist, Kouri then remembered that her materialization power was enough for her to literally suck the life out of a living being and regenerate her soulmist, it would not be much, but it was much better than being heavily damaged like this. She activated her materialization and landed on the ground, the grass beneath her feet immediately froze, fizzled, and die. Kouri then lay down and rolled on the ground, killing every grass in her way, she then went to a tree and hugged it, sickening hissing sounds emanated as Kouri was killing the tree, its leaves turned brown and fell from the branches.

"Ah~ better..." Kouri cracked her fingers, she could feel that she was strong enough to at least use her soulmist projection, not on the level of wielding her sixteen daggers though. "Hm?" She suddenly went silent and alert when she felt presence of another soulmist. Trying to sneak up on us, eh? Kouri didn't realize nor recognize that it was Noaru's presence. She twirled and a serrated tendril lashed out from her, travelling at immense speed, and cutting the dropping raindrops, and through Noaru's chest "Oh... it's not nice spying like that~ You better come out... whoever you are..."

Noaru could feel that he was in imminent danger--the killing intent emitted from the young ghost was just that strong. The spirit disappeared immediately, the moment Kouri turned; leaving his hiding spot behind the tree's to take cover amongst the numerous thick branches and leaves in split seconds. He could hear the sudden and loud crack of wood being struck by something; he looks to see a long tendril of soulmist touching the ice coated surface of the tree he was near. Noaru realized immediately that Kouri was aiming for him and judging by the damage... she was serious. The angle he maintained allowed him to see Kouri and Fallon but with large trees filling in the distance between him and the two.

The cool air, rain and the dark clouds gave his abilities an advantage, despite them being minor, he could use them. The spirit paused to observe his surroundings before deciding to move again, this time keeping himself hidden and less exposed while maintaining his sights on Kouri and Fallon. Noaru was debating without himself in deciding whether he should speak or not; he didn't want to take a soulmist tendril to the face. The spirit was even debating whether or not this ghost was Kouri, he was attempting to speak to.

Kouri! That human, what happened to her?

Noaru yelled as loud as he could through the rain, gambling on the bet that Kouri could hear him through the uproar of rain, wind and thunder.

It was hard for her not to miss. The decay, the ice. The cling of death to the trees. Even the tone of voice from the ghost quickly changed into something more sinister. There was a shiver, her cold limbs shaking as a sign to find shelter. She was not alright, she knew she was not. And as the situation continued to unfold the squire felt herself edging further and further away. She stamped her feet, forcing life into them as the crashing of wood and splinters reached her ears. There was a declaration, and then a demanding question from another. A secret observer who had been watching all along.

Eyes darted towards it, or at least the source. Whoever was speaking was lost beyond the foliage and the rain, the roaring in the background muffling the words. Not that they were inaudible to her, the squire managed to pick them out. What had happened to her? She had been controlled by her own weaknesses, her own blind guilt and suffering. That night came back to her once more, the feelings and hands of abuse, the torment of voices. The pain of cold steel upon her flesh. She remembered the humiliation, the taste of hot sweat.

Fallon swallowed, her eyes turning up to the dark sky. No, nothing was alright. Everything was far from it. She had to get inside, she had to get out of this weather. She needed to get warm. Taking a stagger away, the squire pulled herself properly beneath the branches of a tree, arms clinging to her sodden form. She rubbed her extremities, forcing warmth to return to them. Shelter, she needed shelter she knew that. If shelter could be made she could get out of the worst of it.

“I need to… I need to head back. Need to get out of this…” she shook her head, “No I’m not fine. Petch… petch it all!” She gave a lurch away, dragging her feet across the earth, unsteady steps focused on getting away. Not just from the weather but the growing tension. She did not like where it was going, and as far as she was concerned there had already been enough suffering in recent days. She could not take any more. Not yet.
