Rue
Summer, Day 22, 513 AV
Her muscles felt loose and warm after her exercises. She had stretched and done her basic muscle work, push ups, sit ups, climbing planks, leg lifts - her basic toning routine - and she was already beginning to sweat from the heat of the day, reminding her of why she usually practiced before sunrise. She had spent long hours the night before outside with her strider, Wildfire, after the scene with her father. She had ridden long into the night hours and thus overslept.
Wildfire, having the luxury of being a horse, was dozing in the shade as she worked.
She sighed, turning her mind back to her body as she reached up above her head, filling her lungs, then released her breath as she bent over. Her nose just barely touched the front of her legs, her palms were flat on the ground. She kicked her legs up, tightening her stomach muscles as she did to hold her lower body above her in the air. She had been working on her handstands -a surprisingly good full body exercise- and she had gotten fairly good at them, but next she wanted to walk on her hands.
The question was, is her one arm strong enough to hold up her entire body weight, and was her balance good enough that she wouldn't fall when she tried.
The answer, as she soon found out, was a resounding no. She tucked her head to the side and curled her back as she fell, half rolling out of the position. She stood up again with a promise to herself that she would start doing one armed push-ups in her warm up. With that thought in mind she had another trick from a performer that she wanted to try. She had watched the girl go from standing to arching her back so far that her hands touched the ground.
Rue tried this, stretching her stomach muscles as far as she could, and she still had to drop the last bit to reach the ground. But her mission was mostly a success, so far. The next bit of the trick had been lifting her legs up and over her body like a handstand, only done backwards.
She was trying to walk her hands closer to her bare feet when someone approached her.
