As the two men fell, Ansel glanced over in confusion. His face quickly contorted in rage, and he practically hissed at Sevris. He didn't say anything, but bared his teeth like a dog at the swordsman. "Treachery? How DARE you?!" he roared, obviously a little unstable. He lowered his halbeard at Ansel and held it to keep the man protectively away, prepared to fight to the death.

The weapon itself was made of a metal, axe-like head slightly decorated. A steel shaft when down about a foot, before melding into a strong wooden handle. The blade was sharp and shining, looking like it could cut through flesh easily.

Ansel shoved the pole forward, using the spear-like point at the end to keep Sevris at bay. He slowly began to circle, eyes never leaving his opponent. If there was ever a time for a surprise, it was now. He twisted the blade and slashed horizontally, aiming for Sevris' chest. Though it would miss if he took any evasive actions, the blow would instantly be followed by another twist and stab. All the while, Ansel would keep slowly pacing in a circle.

Once, he nearly tripped on the bodies of the dead paladins, stumbling and loosing focus for a moment. However, he quickly recovered, pushing himself up to once again face his opponent.

OOCI must mention, I'm pretty bad at fighting threads.... thought you should know.

Also, considering that you're a level below him in this weapon, you'll need some trick up your sleeve to defeat him... so have fun coming up with that!

Plotting to Overthrow the King (Sevris)

OOCIt's ok I'm great at them! :)
Sevris reacted immediately to the attack of the infuriated Marshall. His attack was swift like his luxurious weapon. However the bodies now littered in the battlefield were tripping him up.

Ansel kept a pacing strafe around him, sending a slash at him. Jumped back evading the slash, but the tenacity of Ansel was ferocious. He followed his sequence with a daring stab with his halberd.

There was no evading it so he swung his double sword in a half circle which parried it. The Marshall used the momentum of the parry for a twirling quick slash.

Sevris didn't expect it to come so soon and just as quickly threw up his guard with the other end of his weapon. At this time Darren had covered the distance and he was brandishing a steel longsword. Miriam at his heels wielding a rapier.

Good thing they attacked right then and there because the force his attack left Sevris vulnerable. Darren lay an attack from the rear as did Miriam. Not out of the action quite just yet. Sevris also attacked Ansel from the front.

Ansel however was a beast. He singlehandedly deflected all of their attacks and was fighting them on even ground. Each attack aimed for a kill. This would take all their strength. And possibly their lives. Sevris couldn't let that happen. Ansel had to die.

When the two men attacked from behind, Ansel practically scrambled back from the trio, attempting to keep an eye on them all. His halberd was still held threateningly before him, the weapon strong and un-wavering. It created a wall of steel between the groups, making getting close harder than it would have been with any other weapon.

He stumbled once, loosing his balance and his focus, but recovered as quickly as he did with the paladins. "You wont kill me" he hissed, eyes ablaze. "I don't care if this is three against one. I wont die." The last word held such determination and fury that it was almost frightening.

He jabbed forward with his weapon as he said this, aiming for the man with the smallest sword: Miriam. If anyone tried to get closer, he would swipe to the side with the axe blade, levering the weapon for a killing blow. He neither approached or backed up, standing his ground with a bestial snarl on his features.

As soon as his first attack was done, he sent a swipe from the right at Darren, trying to cleave the man in two. However, since he had to turn to do this, his back and side was open to any fast attacker. Ansel would notice the opening as quickly as anyone else, and would close it quickly, but someone fast enough might be able to get within range.

Plotting to Overthrow the King (Sevris)

OOCMy bad I misspelled Darrels name its not Darren...and also forgot to say Mriram is a girl Lol Time was out of wack as Ansel's erratic movements toyed with the trios coordinated attack. Miriam reacted fast with her rapier flickering upwards for the block, but his halberd was a heavy locomotor. It jammed into it as it did with Sevris's Double-Bladed Sword, since she was holding it tightly the rapier sent her reeling to the ground. He had to be dealt with quickly, his prowess on the battlefield was well known and their surprise wouldn't last long.

Ansel also pushed the attack to Darren, putting him on the defense with a equally deadly swipe which would rip him into too. But then it happened again, time seemed to slow down once again for him. There was finally an opening his seemingly impenetrable steel defense.

He had dealt with a similar enemy who seemed to overwhelm him with superior form and strength. A Blue Akalak that was allied with Rising Dawn. He took advantage of his lapse in blocking speed. But he guessed the Marshall would be ready to meet him with his halberd just as quickly, so he only had one shot.

He darted forward and swung his blade upwards towards his back with one hand. Just as predicted the Marshall was already in motion ready to block the oncoming attack, throwing his halberd down for the upwards slash.

However Sevris feinted the attack and used the momentum to flip his blade. He pivoted and turned his body from Ansel as his pulled back hard and the blade poked through his cloak and straight for Ansel's abdomen. The Serrated blades would rip past his armor and chest causing excruciating damage.

Ansel had sworn loudly as Sevris neared, attempting to drop his halberd, but it was more an encumberment than anything else. When the heavy blade went smashing into his stomach, it his solidly, but he managed to get some revenge in before toppling to the ground. He swung a heavy punch at his attacker's face, landing a solid blow that would probably break Sevris' nose. Only then would he fall, blood painting his clothes red.

The blow was one that he died quickly, but spent his last few moments cursing Miriam, Darrel, and Sevris. They were as profane as any sailor could manage, but within ticks he silences, and passed. The area was left in a pale silence, without even the sound of a bird. Their job was done... now to take it back to everyone else.

OOCSorry for the shorter post. Now I guess things get complicated for me... you bring the info back to the Lazarins, theeen... how do you get the promotion? O.o

Plotting to Overthrow the King (Sevris)

Postby Sevris on November 10th, 2013, 12:07 am

By the Gods it worked. It seems as if Sevris's dangerous move was enough to even fool Ansel. The feint left his stomach open and the Soldier took advantage of it and impaled him with his Double-Bladed sword. He heard the grunt and grate of steel and ivory scraping each other, then the slush of blood cascading profusely from the wound.

Thinking his foe immobilized he turned his head around to see a fist flying towards his face. It connected and jammed his face backwards. He stumbled backwards his sword ripping the mans entrails out with its serrated edges.

He hit the ground with a thud. Miriam and Darrel backed away from him in silence as Ansel cursed and berated them. "Gru'Tral will have your head for this! There will be no place on Mizahar you can hide!"

"Gru'Tral will fall. But you will not live long to see it."

The once Marshall died with curses still on his lips, Darrel and Sevris buried the bodies even deeper in the woods, Sevris took all the money and valuables the Paladins and Ansel had on them. From front glance it would seem the Mage they were chasing finally got the better of the trio and he dealt with them. Though Sevris had been seen with the group before they departed. The Soldier could claim that he was sent away.

Since Ansel was only with his party when it came to the hunt. The bodies buried the Lazarin's headed back to report their success.

Thadeus's Office

32nd Day of Summer, 513 A.V

Sevris, Darrel and Miriam had just finished telling Thadeus of their success on the Assassination of Ansel Lazarin. With pleasing details of lost of life on their part, and also the removal of the bodies and suscpicion made him very pleased. They would certainly rethink the thought that they were expendable. Now.

Sevris stepped forward as he addressed his Uncle. "Sir. Promise of death was our reward if we failed. However, what is our reward for our promise of victory."

Thadeus raised both eyebrows as the tale finished, but a small smile twitched at the edge of his features. When Sevris asked for a reward, though with a little more tact, he pushed himself out of his chair and nodded at each of the three Ebonstryfe. "Well... you, Sevris, will get something in... particular. Though all three of you will gain a similar reward. Lazarin arranged these at particular expense... do not take them lightly."

He stopped speaking and turned, heading into a back room. Within moments, he returned with three medium-sized packages wrapped in a plain brown paper. He passed one each to Miriam and Darrel, before presenting the last to Sevris. As they unwrapped their gifts, he explained. "These have all been magecrafted, by a particularly skilled... employee... of Lazarin's. All are more durable than a normal helmet. Yours, Sevris, is a little different. Through a process I do not feel like explaining, when wearing this helmet, you will be able to see any direct uses of Djed.

"You will be able to see any uses of projection. Res will become more obvious, even if it is invisible. Any material created with Res will look different from normal materials. A morphed appendage will also appear differently. Shields are also visible. You are unable to identify Aurists, however. Any items created with world magic, for example magecrafting, will also appear slightly different.

"Now, you may notice I am simply using the word 'different'. I cannot tell you exactly what each thing looks like, as it is different for each user... Though, of course, you can discover what magecrafted items look like by checking out your companion's own helmets."

It was a long explanation, but covered all of what Thadeus wanted. Speech finished, he returned to his seat, crossing his legs. "You will also be promoted to the rank of Paladin, Sevris. Enjoy. You may go now." He waved the trio out of his room.

Helmet :
All three helmets appear the same, though yours has silver accents. I found a really cool picture of a helmet, so... here!

Plotting to Overthrow the King (Sevris)

So there was a light at the end of this very bleak tunnel. He had received an even fairer reward then he thought. Lazerin was generous to his followers. He took his gift from Thadeus and dismissed himself when told too. Now that he was Paladin he would be fitted for command soon. He looked too Miram and Darrel.

"You both displayed iron will against the tasks stacked against us. I would like for that amazing ability to be on my side once again. I will request you both be transferred to me as soon as I am fully appointed."

They didn't say anything both kind of in shock, then Darrel nodded and Miriam followed suit saying, "It would be an honor to keep the Lazarin line close. There is much treachery at foot then we can account for."

"We must be able to fight and destroy all who oppose Lazarin. Because soon they will do the same when the chance arrives. The war will be upon us soon. We must make sure we're in the best position to win and take all." Sevris answered.

"Its what must be done."
