To the wealthy of Kenash, his looks are seen as boring and lacking in colour, as light hazel eyes blend into tan skin and chestnut hair. However, the visitors to the city tend to find him attractive to which he fully abuses to sell his wares. As Jed was not active in his youth, preferring the comfort of indoor activities, his body is neither toned nor flabby. He is not one to follow trends, rarely seen in anything else but his white cotton shirt, breeches and leather boots. If the temperature permits it, he adds a wool riding coat; a favourite of his. About the only thing Jed does switch out are his scents, using it as a way to mask the odours of the world and to advertise for his business. Outfit 1 Outfit 2 Character Concept Jed is in essence, an emotional man. He feels strongly and empathizes easily, and as a result, attempts to remain detached as a form of protection. Possessing an eerily accurate intuition, he is adept at manipulation and deception, both of which have been honed in his weak childhood years. Though his family thought little of the once sickly son of Dervain, young Jed had quite a few of them wrapped around his finger. Obsession and curiosity tend to carry him from project to project, and so, he is prone to leaving things unfinished. This of course, applies to the people in his life with even those closest to him questioning the depth of his loyalty and their place in his priorities. However, Jed does make for a warm and caring companion with his optimism for life infectious and his humour kind. Out of the Sitai, he is perhaps the most approachable and friendly. Slaves aside, to which he is either cold or indifferent, he is tolerant and accepting of most races and religions and tends to remain open-minded even when wronged. Some find this to be wishy-washy behaviour, as he can be indecisive in opinion but at the same time, is a flexible team player. Jed is a romantic at heart, ever searching for the perfect love. And though he is well aware of his fickle nature and addiction to infatuation, that never stops him from pursuing men and women alike. Character History Secret : It was fortune that delivered Jed safely into this world, but he would feel the effects for the remainder of his childhood as a weak constitution imprisoned the boy within walls. Unable to participate in physical activities, he looked to mental challenges such as puzzles and reading. It was through books that he discovered the world of poisons, and though it is thought to be a woman's weapon, underhanded and dishonourable, Jed fell in love. To him they symbolized strength that even he could take for himself, and ultimate power; the power over life and death. Indifferent as he was with the slaves, they would often become the unsuspecting victims of his experiments, though he never tampered with what he could not fix. After all, they were an investment and product, and he certainly was not a wasteful sort. As time passed, his knowledge as well as his constitution improved, but no longer did the elusive outside world interest him. With his newfound health, Jed began to experiment on himself, with the intent of learning and to gain a resistance to minor poisons. As a young adult, Jed was uninterested in love and sex having never been attracted to anyone. However, a slave girl, a half Eypharian, caught his eye, or rather nose, for her scent drove him wild. Taking her one night, the girl, Chessa, soon found herself under the direct supervision of Jed for she was appointed to be his personal slave. Once used for the notorious parties held by the family, she now acted as a secretary and occasional bedwarmer. Rumours of a secret child have floated around the estate, but old gossip tend to fade quickly in the fast moving city. Soon after the encounter, Jed grew interested in the world of scents. Though not quite the same, it possessed similarities with his beloved poisons and so, unsurprisingly, he excelled at the craft. Recognizing his son's skill, Dervain then appointed Jed to Sitai's Scents. Naturally, Chessa came along for racial ability can at times fool customers into believing that the perfume they are testing smells more enticing than in actuality. Moreover, she was qualified to work as a clerk for the shop while Jed worked in the lab to prepare the next scent. With her conveniently by his side, he can also continue to research the nature of her intoxicating scent as he attempts to bottle it. Additional Info: Born outside of slavery, Chessa was once a freeborn that lived in the city of Kenash. Her mother, an Eypharian, owed a great deal of money toward the Sitai which resulted in their family entering enslavement to pay off their debt. As her daughter possessed the qualities that the Sitai appreciated, she was taken into the family whereas her mother was sold, her current whereabouts unknown. At first, she had thought Jed was a kind master, her vision rosy as she watched from afar. Young as she was, she failed to curb her infatuation, stealing glances that were eventually noticed by the Sitai. Curious of the new slave, she was brought before Jed, her scent instantly obsessing him. Taking her, her innocence soon grew bitter and jaded as affections soured to hate. Thankfully, Chessa learned to hide her disdain, appearing as the perfect servant instead. Soon after she was appointed as his personal slave so that he would more conveniently access her body. Months later, the product of his carelessness swelled in her belly, ensuing panic. Fearful of his family's reaction, Jed hid the expecting mother in his private quarters and forbid any from entering. Knowing her presence would be missed sooner or later, he resolved to abort the child, washing his hands clean of the affair. Miraculously, Chessa survived, awaking to find her womb empty and questions unanswered. As she attempted to accept the situation, the thoughts of freedom grew stronger. Now, the slave seeks any opportunity to seek revenge on Jed and to escape his family's hold. Educated and soft-spoken, Chessa is level-headed and organized, making her an ideal candidate for helping run Jed's perfumery, Sitai's Scents. Now, she is often found behind the counter organizing the paperwork and taking orders. Otherwise, she works diligently to maintain the store for mess and sloppiness bothers her to no end. At times she even acts as a secretary to Jed, for the man is disorganized beyond belief.
