Strolling the open streets of Lhavit, Svasra constantly had to remind herself not to stay stationary for too long. The beauty of the city held a completely different allure than her snowy city of Avanthal. Though, she had to admit, it glittered in sunlight almost the same. Svasra could only imagine the wonders it held, the ones she had yet to discover! "And this is only one city," Svasra murmured. She had not idea when she would move on, but that was fine with her. The vague plan and undecided nature offered a pristine taste of freedom. One that Svasra planned on enjoying. As the young woman moved through the streets, she had no sense of direction, and let her feet just ... take her.
The sun was bright today, and the warmth of the city was just under uncomfortable for the Morwen-blessed Vantha. She shifted in the new clothing she wore, a piece bought in the taste of the vibrant city. Though it showed a bit more of her skin than she was used to, the richly-colored cloth paired well with her tanned complexion and aurora-colored gaze. Svasra moved through the crowd carefully, trying to ease past an Ethaefal that was watching some young man on the side of the street.
Pausing, Svasra craned her head over the others, standing on tip-toe to peer over some taller shoulders. A young man, smart in his classy clothing, was studying a little girl in front of him. His brow furrowed, it was almost like he was peering intensely at something unseen. It was slightly unsettling to watch, but he relaxed moments later. A few words drifted from his small speech afterwards, though Svasra was too far away to catch over the gentle mutter of the streets. The young girl seemed to laugh though, clapping her hands, while a few others surrounding nodded appreciatively. "What is he doing?" Svasra wondered aloud, curiosity piqued by the odd display.
"Auristics, aura reading," a light voice suddenly said beside her. Turning her head, Svasra looked at the tall Ethaefal that stood there with a gentle smile. While Svasra stood agape for a moment, the being only laughed. "Not from here, are you? That much is obvious."
"Auristics?" Svasra echoed when she managed to compose herself, head tilting as she looked at the Ethaefal with an obvious expression of confusion.
"Yes, a magic discipline. It is the ability of reading the aura of people around you, learning things of them." Svasra listened closely as the Ethaefal explained, pointing out that Aurist read the little girl's aura and told her what he saw, whatever he got right, she probably paid for. Svasra nodded, taking note of the strange thing, as the only magic that had ever entered her life was that of ice-reaving. To her though, it seemed more breathing than anything divine.
Learning something about others? Through their auras? Svasra wondered if she would be able to detect what stories her audience would want to hear the most, perhaps even the stories themselves! How much money she would make in taverns if she was able to tell the precise story her patrons wanted to hear! Though the question was bubbling in her mind, Svasra didn't ask, as the Ethaefal gave off an air he wasn't all to sure himself, and she decided to reserve the question to someone more knowledgeable in the field. If the young man was practicing so openly, surely there must be a well-known school somewhere?
The crowd began to drift away, but Svasra lingered with the Ethaefal. The heavenly creature was easy to laugh, and seemed to find joy in simply pausing to give a few tips to a young woman. "Storyteller, eh? Well, you might find a job in the Scholar's Demise, a popular tavern here. The owners would let you tell your little tales there. Though, you are a pretty Vantha, m'dear, you'd be hard pressed to leave." Svasra only smiled brightly, too excited at the prospect of actually gaining money as a storyteller than any long hours it might entail.
"Really? It would be good! To improve my Common!"
"Of course!" The two spoke for a few chimes longer before Svasra bowed her head and they parted ways.
The open and welcoming Ethaefal was a pleasant surprise, and Svasra was happy as she moved off, uplifted by the kind gesture the horned-creature had outstretched. "Lovely of heart, as looks," she couldn't help but muse, smiling.
Even so, apart from witnessing a new magic discipline, and conversing with an Ethaefal, the biggest surprise was yet to come.
