A surreal cavern city inhabited by Symenestra where stones glow and streets are reams of silk. Cocoon like structures hang between stalactites and cascade over limestone flows in organic and eerie arabesques. Without a Symenestra willing to escort you, entrance is impossible.

Sweet Poison (Vergil)

The Hunter’s Gather was crowded that day. Almost every chair was occupied, and almost everybody was staring at a table in the center of the tavern, staring at her. Silenva Hyacinth, the only child of the ruling couple was sitting there, enjoying a game of cards with Nedra Foxglove, one of the regulars, a known gambler and playboy. The young woman was as always dressed extravagantly. She had no interest in the traditional exoskeleton armor and silken tunics. Instead she wore a top that consisted of leather and silver chains and a long black skirt. Her black hair was in a complicated updo and decorated with countless gems.

She was laughing and leaning close to him. Nedra, who was not as stunningly good looking as Silenva but still quite pleasant to look at, was leaning close to her as well and staring at her, or rather at two very specific parts of her body that were barely covered. Glasses filled with fine red wine and several bottles were standing on the table between the two. It seemed as if Silenva and Nedra were having a really good time – the other patrons were already speculating whether he was her new lover – when Silenva suddenly threw her cards onto the table and glared at him.

Nedra obviously didn’t know what was happening. He just stared at her open-mouthed. At that Silenva rose from her chair and pointed at the door. „Out!“ she exclaimed. „I’m tired of you, Nedra. I thought that you, with your reputation and your experience would be able to challenge me and entertain me, but you are just like the rest of them. You see the daughter of the ruling couple, suddenly turn into an idiot and start drooling like some petching dog, as if I’m a prize to be had. I have enough of you lickspittles. I want a real man, somebody who is my equal.“

Nedra just stared at her for another little while, then he wordlessly packed the cards and exited the tavern. He was one of the regulars and almost part of the furniture, but you didn’t argue with the Sweet Poison if you valued your life. Once he was out of sight, Silenva sat down again, sighed deeply and smiled before she let her gaze sweep across the men and women that were gathered around her.

„Who wants to try and entertain me and gain my favour next?“ she asked.

Tapping claw to counter, he readjusted his sitting position, shifting weight from one side to the other. Late, as usual. He knew better than to arrive on time when meeting with Dalinus, but having ended his shift at the Nest earlier than expected, the Symenestra was not left much of a choice.

"Ordering anything?" Vergil glanced toward the speaker, recognizing the aged hunter. "No." Then, pausing in consideration, he added. "But I could go for one of your stories." Havier smiled faintly, nostalgia tinging his words as he wiped the counter with a worn rag. "Well let me say what I always say: spears and Northern surrogates. Easy to maintain and train in and versatile, you can see one with a shield, both hands, as a projectile, the list goes on. The spears though, not the women. Though females from the north are hardier having endured in harsher conditions, like the Vantha or Inarta. Avanthal's a bit of a journey though so Wind Reach might be better, though being on a mountain doesn't help. Ah but I'm rambling again aren't I." Vergil nodded, to which Havier either ignored or failed to notice. "Well once, I was in a - "

"Out!"

Chair squeaked against the stone floor as the voice continued to shout. Silenva, he had almost forgotten she was here. Having noticed her flirting with Nedra, he decided today was not the day to properly introduce himself, setting the thought aside. Moreover, Vergil had yet to figure out how to distinguish himself from Sweet Poison's one of many boyfriends. He was confident, but so were the others, and he did not want to underestimate her apparent fickle nature. As she continued to berate a confused Neda, Vergil simply observed with his body back and elbow resting, hiding a half smile beneath relaxed fingers. How like her to cause a scene.

As the shamed gambler headed for the exit, the Symenestra kept his attention on the smiling female. When she issued her challenge, Vergil could not help but let a chuckle pass through his lips. "I wonder if you could." handle a real man. He continued with a thought. Would she be able to relinquish the power that she so obviously craved in meeting her equal? Forgetting the near silence of the tavern, he soon realized that his words were audible to most of the tavern, including Silenva. Composed still, he decided he might as well continue rather than let this opportunity pass. Gazing directly at the female Symenestra, he spoke evenly, amusement gently curving full lips. "But what do you have to your name but your web and status?" Not much, he figured. In his mind, she didn't deserve the man she wished for.

EditAdded a bit more explanation on his thought process near the end.

Sweet Poison (Vergil)

A smile slowly spread across Silenva’s face as Vergil spoke. She extended a hand that ended in long, perfectly manicured claws and gestured for him to come closer if he dared.

„I have many things besides that“, she replied, laughed softly and met his gaze. „I’m not only the daughter of the ruling couple who lives off her parents‘ name and status.“

„You are that Sorrel boy, aren’t you?“
she wanted to know and cocked her head a little to the side. In a city with less than one thousand inhabitants most people had at least seen each other in passing, even if they weren’t closely acquainted.

„You are a little younger than I usually like them, but you are brave. You’ve decided on a different approach. That‘s good. You can’t imagine how tired I am of those lickspittles.“

She sighed, almost exaggeratedly.

„Besides I like the color of your eyes. Such a pretty shade of scarlet. Come sit with me for a while and tell me something about yourself.“

She briefly turned to Havier who was watching them from behind the bar. „Havier, bring us some wine.“

She looked at Vergil. „You drink wine, I hope? Do you have any idea why they call me ‚Sweet Poison‘?“

The rest of the patrons followed their conversation with just as much interest as Havier. Silenva Hyacinth was well known for her volatile temper. How long would it take before she chased Vergil Sorrel away?
