To that, she couldn’t help but laugh. ”No, no… Ionu is anything, you see. They are male and female, tall and short. They’re illusion, possibility, change.” Of course, there was far more to it than that. But she enjoyed how Thomas had subtly let his guard down. The wash of emotion was just as evident in his aura as it was on his face. Celeste hadn’t had a real conversation with anyone in quite some time.
As he answered, she dove into his aura headlong. It sent her spinning. The rush of guilt practically overwhelmed her. It was so thick, she could taste it on her tongue. ’A lie,’ she realized at once. He was lying. But why? He’d have to know she’d catch it. The truth, she realized, must be more complex than he was letting on. Just because he was lying didn’t mean she knew what he was lying about and further, what it really meant. Why was he feeling so guilty? It was certainly not out of any obligation to her.
Avalis. What a secret, indeed. He’d all but spelled it out for her. He either had a mark or he longed for one. Maybe he was still in the process of gaining favor. It would explain the strange guilt she saw. Blinking, she attempted to clear her mind. The lingering taste of salt plagued her. Apparently, the taste of guilt was an altogether unpleasant one.
It would help to get more information. She’d heard the name, but that was all. ”No. What sort of God are they?” Using a gender-neutral pronoun helped. Perhaps if she were to learn more of Avalis, she could better understand what he was trying to hide. If this God or Goddess wielded great power, it’d be understandable as to why he’d hide it. Or perhaps even, there was some kind of irrational prejudice against them? Unlikely, but it was worth considering.
”Are they kind? Or wroth?” She added. Hopefully he’d be inclined to enlighten her.
