Appearance: Jason is a dirty blonde, with hazel eyes and a very athletic figure. He's always fairly clean-cut, unlike some of the other non-Vantha of his nation, who prefer to... keep warmer. He's fairly tall, at 6'4", and would probably be mistaken for a Drykas if not for the lack of tattoos.
Character Concept & HistoryI'll divide this concept into three categories: his family life, his social life, and his own concept. I put the concept and history together, because I feel as if they're dependent on each other.
You could essentially say that he has no family life, and you'd be accurate. His father, a former constituent of one known Suvan, was cursed by Ivak and turned into an apathetic drone. Although he remained with the family a little while longer, his complete loss of self drove Jason's mother into alcoholism and completely shattered his childhood. His father was the only provider for the family, and his mother was too mentally and physically incapable to somehow begin to provide for them. What money they had left was poured into vain things; clothing, and jewelry, material objects to fulfill her empty vessel. The other empty vessel, his father, eventually died. His apathy translated into a lack of desire to preserve his own life, and so he didn't consider his safety when performing daily tasks. He slowly whittled away, scratching flesh, tearing muscle, and shattering bones with accident after accident. The trauma to his body was too much, and it killed him.
This was probably the saving grace for Jason, as not having to take care of and pay for a lifeless man helped them keep going a little longer. His mother eventually found a job as a seamstress, although her personality had taken a bitter turn. She became a nag, and a very angry, abusive one. It wasn't to say that Jason was totally faultless; he would often intentionally press on her buttons, provoking her into mad anger just because he enjoyed the sight of it. They hated each other, bitterly. When it came to the point where they recognized that staying together any longer would possibly result in a brutal knife-fight, Jason moved away from his mother, into his girlfriend's house. Which brings us forward to the next section: how he acts with others.
The habit of freeloading with other people started with his girlfriend, when he was fifteen. She was a slightly younger Vantha, with a very lenient mother, and a kind father. The girl was madly in love with him, so her parents allowed him to stay with her for many months, almost breaking a year. He never really felt quite as much for her as she did him, but he kept up the guise because he had no other option. It was either pretend to love her, or die on the streets. Things sort of got worse, though, as the longer they stayed in the same house, the more she felt they should advance their relationship. He started to mold himself into a cold person as a reaction to her clingy nature, which caused all sorts of problems with her and her family. It came to the point where he was alienated in the house, made to feel unwelcome by her parents, with the girl shoving marriage and child-making up his throat. Unlike with the Vantha, he'd had a horrible family life, so he had no intention to start one of his own. Especially not when he was so young; freedom was a concept he wanted to come to life.
Eventually, he started cheating on her, looking for another person to stay with when he finally let out his true... feelings. Obviously, he'd been molded into a manipulative young man by the way his life developed. He initially looked for another girl to live with, but decided he didn't want to make the same mistake, where he'd be constantly pressured into marriage and starting a family. So, he hit it off with a guy a few years older than him, still living with his mother, who was actually almost as mentally challenged as Jason's own mom. They really got along, especially because of their similar upbringings, but something was always missing. Perhaps because the intention of even searching for romance was just to use them anyway, he felt detached from the idea of going further. Didn't really matter; after about a year and a half, his friend or... companion came down with the pox, and Jason left for fear of contagion.
This comes to his own concept; his person. Jason isn't a bad person, he's just really petching broke. It's better to be a heartbreaker until you've come across the right opportunity than allow yourself to rot on the ground, or turn to prostitution. So, that sums up the reason for his 'freeloader' lifestyle. As a character, he's very friendly, and can get along with people really easily. He's very observative of the type of person someone is, and likes to find ways to respond to that. Really, his 'character' depends on who he's talking to, as he isn't of a predictable personality in the slightest.
