70th Day of Summer, 513 AV

The sky was void of any clouds, what one would say to be a beautiful day, but the sun’s blistering rays beat down on Ollic’s back incessantly, his comfort level decreasing dramatically.

Birds were chirping reverently, their flamboyant feathers causing a mild distraction to his mind’s tenacious thoughts. They collided into one another, sending signals of vexation to his brain’s coherent system. A headache was forming and Ollic was becoming displeased at its terrible timing.

He had woken up not more than an hour ago for his first day attending his job as a healer’s assistant. He had thought it was best to bring his equipment, snatching a hold of his healer’s kit and cloak before heading out the door of his apartment.

Once down the steps and out the door of the Solar Wind Apartments, Ollic’s mind had been thrown into over-drive, the whirl-wind of thoughts taking pleasure in inviting questions. He had been told that he was to be working with a partner, helping others with their medical issues. He had always wondered what it would be like to work with someone else, rather than by himself, for he was such an independent person and didn’t ever think of the idea to have to rely on someone.

Perhaps this mental argument was good for Ollic. It was something to keep his mind occupied on, stabilizing his slight anxiety by keeping it at bay. He wondered if having a partner would be good for him, whether he would be around them a lot of perhaps use them just as a consultant for medical tips on individual patients. He didn’t know who they were or what they would act like, and this anonymous idea made his heart race and his jaw muscles tense up.

He had told Hokato to stay home, a dish of water and a dish of food next to the door. It was a long goodbye, since Ollic was one who needed friends, Hokato was the only one who had been with him since the start.

“I am going to work now,” he had told her before he walked out the door. Then, he had rushed back in and had hugged his companion for endless chimes before he mustered up the courage to shut the apartment door and lock it.

“Don’t do anything stupid,” he had whispered as he trampled down the stairs. Hokato would never run away, but Ollic wasn’t always genuinely optimistic. Professionalism aside, Ollic was extremely pessimistic, always doubting himself. Herbalism and healing were the only things he could be confident in, and that is why he has a strong desire to peruse those careers.

The infinite steps up into the massive building of the Catholicon had reached Ollic’s feet all too soon. The sky was still clear of any shrouding clouds and the sun still simmered down onto anything wearing dark colours. Ollic’s heart was racing, but mainly from the long walk it took from his apartment to where he stood now.

He glanced up at the building, shielding his eyes from the glare of the yellow star, and looked back down at his feet, taking a step onto the first of the many the stairs provided.

Chimes to bells, to endless seasons or years, it felt like forever before Ollic had hobbled to the top of the climb he had pushed himself to crawl up. The doors glistened, and so did he, for sweat fell from his forehead like a waterfall before he wiped at it with his sleeve.

Breathing deeply, he pushed the doors open, his body being flooded by cold air and enormous room. The whole place looked so divine and professional, much like a library, with many different floors and rooms to hold people. He felt comfortable with the expansion it had. He had feared the place would be small inside, claustrophobic as it closed in on him like shadows do in the winter’s night.

“Hello, may I help you?” A woman called from the centre of the room, her hair frazzled and her eyes a piercing green. His own irises turned a deep shade of green from their smouldering orange. He was dedicated to starting work, and this woman was just what he needed to get there. It was him and her, the barrier set in between him and his first day as a healer’s assistant.

He walked slowly, yet confidentially over the woman, his eyes glazed over, yet his body present. “I am here for my first day as a healer’s assistant.”

The woman nodded her head and without looking, pointed over to the right at a young female not much older than twenty years of age. In fact, she looked just old enough to pass as an adult. However, he facial structure spoke of difference. The adamant features shouting at him of determination and maturity. She could be anywhere from a teenager to a thirty year old woman and he wouldn’t have known any better.

Ollic tugged at his vest’s collar with his index finger and nodded his head, acknowledging the secretaries gesture. That young woman, skin as flawless as a porcelain doll, hair as bright and light as is the sun had kissed it too many times. Her eyes were a dull blue, downcast at an angle as if trying to look away from something persistently. She looked slightly taller than Ollic, but nothing too noticeable, and her choice of attire was fairly simple, unlike Ollic’s multi-colour vest and dark slacks he wore on this special occasion.

He started shuffling over to the girl, whom was soon to be his partner in office. He needed to get to know her if they were to be working with one another, yet Ollic’s mind was tumbling with commands. He didn’t like getting to know people; he was afraid of what people would say to him; he wasn’t very good at making conversation and he always somehow said the exact wrong thing at the exact wrong time.

He coughed, trying to get the young woman’s attention before he stood at a respectful distance. He cleared his throat and stuttered his welcome, introducing himself.

“Hello,” he whispered before raising his voice a few pitches. “My name is Ollic Rimesage. I will be your new partner in health.”

A Medical Monologue [Eshe]

Postby Eshe Czardas on August 10th, 2013, 7:31 pm

Eshe was already at the Catholicon by the time her partner had arrived. It was the first time she'd be working with another apprentice. He was already a few chimes late, which made her grumpy. The girl looked up. He looked older than she was, probably in his twenties. A multi-colored vest and slacks made her narrow her eyes.

How unprofessional.

He was going to get that vest dirty, and she saw no point in it. Dark hair, combed back. If his eyes were anything to go by, which had been orange before but were now green, he was at least part Vantha. Eshe herself was wearing her vest, shorts and boots. Her cloak was folded neatly in her arms. The man looked hesitant, but came over anyways. He wasn't as confident talking to her as he was to the receptionist.

A cough, trying to get her attention as if he didn't already have it. Standing a good distance away, probably thinking it was respectful. Eshe's thoughts wandered, and she tried to remember if she had left Lazybones enough food for the day. She probably had. But then, the cat could never have enough food. She'd bring something back for him after work.

What was he saying? Oh, he was introducing himself. He was one of the quiet ones. She blinked rapidly, once, twice, three times. Her frosty eyes flickered with each blink, and she closed the distance between them. They were only a few steps away when she stuck out her hand.

"Please to meet you, Ollic. I'm Eshe Czardas. I look forward to working with you."

A Medical Monologue [Eshe]

The woman appeared to be of human decent, her eyes like beams of sunlight searing into his own. She checked over his attire, a look of disgust on her face when she landed on his vest. He absentmindedly tried to cover himself by rubbing his hand down the side, smoothing out all creases.

Her blue eyes then rose to meet his once more, a hint of both confusion and surprise sparkling inside her irises. She was intrigued by his colour changing eyes, having Ollic's cheeks flush at the thought.

Suddenly she thrust her hand out in means to shake in a truce relationship. Her name was indifferent, the way it rolled off her tongue sending shivers down his spine. Her surname he could not pronounce himself, no matter if he'd heard it a thousand times in extent.

Ollic looked down at her open hand and took it in his grasp, asking her about the daily routine. "That is, if you have worked here much before today. If you know your way around, I would really appreciate a tour."

He took notice to Eshe's change of mood. Before, she was protective, reclusive, closed off and slightly annoyed by his presence, yet now she remained accepting, welcoming and minimally excited to have a partner to work with. However, she did not make these expressions vulnerable for very long before she shut down again.

"It's a seemingly, uh, big place, "Ollic stuttered, for the air had soon turned sour as an awkward moment started to settle in.

A Medical Monologue [Eshe]

"No, I haven't worked here much. It is quite large though, yes. I'd like to know more about whom I will be working with, Ser Rimesage. After all, one can never know enough."

She had switched to Vani for the last part of the sentence, and it was accompanied with a slight grin. The Vantha were a curious bunch, and she loved meeting them. She loved their eyes. Eshe's hand slid from his, placing itself on her hip. Another look at him. Pale skin, slim build. Definitely a healer. She would enjoy working with him. The girl doubted he would be boring, like some others she could think of.

I really wish Lazybones was here...

She wanted to hold her precious kitty, even though he was extremely heavy. Eshe sighed, her other hand placed on her hip as well. If this Ollic was from Avanthal, she may have seen him before. He didn't look too much older.

As the woman spoke, Ollic's heart race slowed to a trot. The woman hadn't been working here long, having her retreat down to Ollic's level; a novice. She was here for only professional matters and didn't need too much information on his personal life. She seemed to not care why Ollic was truly here or not; she didn't look interested in learning more about his history. But when her tongue turned in tune to something of his past, Ollic's breathing stopped short, his eyes growing wide.

She had just spoken Vani and Vani was something he knew extremely well. But was this woman apart of Vantha heritage? For she did not look like one, with her hair so light, her skin so fair and near pale. Throughout their very short conversation, not once did her eyes change colour, adding to the thought of Ollic's second question. It was either this woman could control her moods from exceptional training, or she had learnt about the language of the aurora children in her spare time.

"You speak of the Vantha?" Ollic asked, genuinely engrossed in wonderment. His left eyebrow shot up higher than his right, his eyes lighting up in anticipation. "Are you indeed of Vantha race?"

This once awkward conversation had become suddenly interesting, changing from dull to vivacious. It was not something that Ollic couldn't handle, per say, but it certainly did toy with his emotions, his eye colour changing from once an elaborate orange for surprise to a deep green for interest and dedication.

He was intrigued in this woman's matters, and for once he felt oddly safe around a stranger, which chilled his bones and made the hairs raise on his arms.

"Where do you come from, Eshe?"

A Medical Monologue [Eshe]

Postby Eshe Czardas on August 12th, 2013, 6:52 pm

"Yes ser, I speak Vani. I am not of the aurora children, regrettably. Rather, I lived in Avanthal when I was younger. My parents, travelling merchants, stayed there long enough for me to pick up some of the language."

A small smile appeared on Eshe's face. He was interested. His eyes had turned orange, but they were back to green. A deep green. The girl felt hot and cold at the same time. Nobody had ever given her a look like that, they'd just passed her off as a child.

"I come from Zeltiva. We moved to Avanthal when I was seven. Then we went to Alvadas. I'm ten years older than my sister. I doubt I need to ask where you come from, Ollic."

She decided, from his use of her first name, that this was now an informal situation. It felt odd though, calling someone by anything other than their surname. Eshe rubbed her upper arm, scratching her shoulder.

Eshe continued to talk but no longer did she in Vani.

She had lived in Avanthal at one point, having Ollic bemused that he hadn't seen her. Sure he was a very anti-social child, and he still is, but he would have heard of her, studied her or at least of seen her walking about in the snow.

He could see her now in his vivid imagination, her blue eyes brighter than before as she looked up at the sky, gazing intently on the snowflakes that floated down to the earth below.

He saw her hair, lighter than before as it fell onto her shoulders in thin waves of blonde, sometimes getting tangle in her jacket, her mittens pulling it out from underneath the collar.

Suddenly he was brought back to reality, sustaining a minor headache from his fantasy, a flashback he had never seen before, or had he?

She was speaking of moving from place to place, originating from such an academical city of the sea. Zeltiva, he had heard of before, was a wonderful place, full of knowledge and sailors and mystery. Of course it had yet to come close to the mystery and confusion of the city of Alvadas. Ollic's emotions were sure to explode in a hay-wire stage if he had spent even a few chimes in such a place as that.

If he couldn't grasp a hold of reality, then he was forever stuck in a place of dreams and nightmares and that realisation scared the living day-light out of him.

"I doubt I need to ask where you come from, Ollic." And this was most certainly true. Seeing his eyes and their swift change of colour, his dark hair and the way he spoke, he knew that she knew he came from the winter wonderland world of Avanthal.

He didn't per say enjoy the place, for he was never normally excited with the vision of the cold, but he was intrigued by the structure of snowflakes and the way they formed from the clouds above. He liked the feeling of drinking tea and sitting by the fireplace in his family's cottage, telling stories about special past-times.

However, the way Eshe scratched her arm made Ollic question whether or not it was appropriate to call her by her first name. His eyes, changing to a quick orange again made his body quiver in anxiety. Would she take offense to that and tell him about his wrong-doing?

To escape yet another awkward silence, Ollic sputtered out multiple questions, rubbing the back of his calf to calm down.

"How long have you been working here? Do you live in the Solar Wind Apartments? Do you have any animals?"

Ollic blushed, his irises changing colour one again to a deep purple, a shade that could fairly well combine with the rosy cheeks that now littered his face. He wished he was better at talking to girls, or anyone for that matter.

A Medical Monologue [Eshe]

Postby Eshe Czardas on August 12th, 2013, 8:29 pm

OOCEshe isn't speaking Vani. Purple is Common, green is Vani. It's in my sig, if you forget. :)

While she was speaking, she noticed he seemed... Distant. As if he was having a flashback. He was in his thoughts. Eshe wondered if he would be like this during medical emergencies. His eyes turned orange. What did that mean? Vantha eyes were so hard to decode. He suddenly asked multiple questions. Ollic wasn't very good at talking to girls, it seemed. Or strangers. A girl stranger was even worse.

His irises were now purple, and a blush spread across his face. That was easy to decipher. Embarassment. She laughed a bit, in an attempt to calm him down and keep him from turning and running out of the Catholicon.

"Not very long. I only started later this season. Yes, I live in the Solar Wind Apartments. I have a cat named Lazybones. He eats too much. It's hard to pick him up."

With her precious kitty in her thoughts, Eshe was smiling naturally now. It was an easy one, a lopsided grin. He was amusing to her.

Secret :
*Slaps face* I knew that! I so knew that. I guess I was just... distant. Sorry about that. I will edit the last reply.

Eshe didn't seem phased when Ollic's rampant inquiry invaded the once solitary conversation. She seemed pleased that Ollic was interested in her life, even.

She had a cat, Ollic had a "dog". She lived in the Solar Wind Apartments as did he. The more descriptive Eshe became about her cat, the more Ollic began to inwardly chuckle. Eyes the shade of the sea after a storm, so peaceful and calm meant that his heart was thawing and his mind was down stirring.

He felt safe, and he knew that this girl understood his anxiety toward talking to strangers. Either way, he felt the need to explain his actions a little further.

"I'm sorry miss, I'm not usually so challenged, well I am, but," Ollic sighed and started over again, slowly down his breathing and counting to four. "When I am doing my profession, the one I admire with such utmost desire, I seem to be free from all worry. I'm not one to talk with people and helping others seems to melt away that anxiety."

Apology and explanation concluded, he began talking about his pet. "Her name is Hokato. My father found her in Mura. She's a little... different and fairly rare, but she's all I have; my truest friend that is all I can ask for."

Remembering from the lessons his therapist had given him, he began reciting his part of the interrogation, explaining to the girl everything he asked her, only in the vision of his part.

"I too live in the Solar Wind Apartments and sometimes take in locals for mild help and healing. Before I started working here, it was a little hobby."

He knew he shouldn't say it and was hesitant on asking, his conscience screaming at him to not to, but he spoke anyways.

"Perhaps you could come over sometime and discuss some medical terms sometime... or maybe... just get a drink?" Ollic grinned, but a small hint of misery slanted onto his lips. Did he just ask a complete stranger to his house for a drink? Did he just deny his intellectual thoughts and disobey their commands to not invite her over to talk about their shared job as healers?

He supposes that to get to know your partners of work, one must invite them over, but he was still regretting his invitation all the while he thought about it.

Yet, he still felt safe around her, and knew her response would be one of kind meaning whether she were to accept or deny it. He knew she meant no respect, as did he, but he inwardly hoped she wouldn't accept it.

He needed to go to the restroom to regain his composure.

A Medical Monologue [Eshe]

Postby Eshe Czardas on August 12th, 2013, 9:25 pm

Eshe chuckled. At least he wasn't going to have a meltdown. At least he liked being a healer. She liked it too, but she absolutely loved dancing.

"Fear not, Ollic. It's okay. It's easier to work in silence rather than talk and confuse one another, no? Actions suffice in an emergency. Words simply complicate things."

She listened to him talk about his pet, smiling wider. From Mura? Rare? Interesting. And he lived in the Solar Wind Apartments too. She liked him already. He was quite friendly, once he relaxed. Helping people was a hobby to him... That was nice. Eshe envied him just a little bit, wishing she could have as much dedication to helping others as he.

"Perhaps you could come over sometime and discuss some medical terms sometime... or maybe... just get a drink?"

It was Eshe's turn to trip over her words.

"Oh! Um... Yes, I would... I'd like that very much, thank you."

She'd never been asked to come over to someone's apartment and share a drink, let alone be asked to go anywhere unless on official business. She was a straightforward girl, not one to be distracted from her work. Her fingers plucked at the edge of her vest. It was going to be an awkard silence when she came over, unless one of them felt particularly outgoing that day. Eshe hoped she wouldn't offend him by accepting it, even though he had asked her. She'd probably bring Lazybones. Having her kitty around always helped soothe her nerves and relax.
