A city floating in the center of a lake, Ravok is a place of dark beauty, romance and culture. Behind it all though is the presence of Rhysol, God of Evil and Betrayal. The city is controlled by The Black Sun, a religious organization devoted to Rhysol. [Lore]

The Tea Connection (Amelia)

Postby Valerius Nitrozian on November 13th, 2013, 10:54 am

„I will be marked“, Valerius whispered, and, perhaps for the first time since Amelia had gotten to know him, there was a genuine smile on his face. What else could she have meant with her statement that he would gain Rhysol’s approval and attention? He barely registered her warning that he would also lose his free will. What use was free will, what use was being true to yourself if your whole world was shattered, and everybody statred hating you? She spoke of self doubt, weakness and lack of discipline … why was she doing that?

Being marked by Rhysol was all he had ever wanted!

„That shadow is my aunt Amanda, isn’t she?“ he wanted to know. „It is only a matter of time until I surpass her. I’ve already begun to work on my own research project.“ Amanda had had her doubts about him from the beginning, but he would show her! He would not have any doubts, he would not be weak, and he would not dream of any other life, he would not! And yet – and yet a small amount of insecurity remained, barely noticeable. Amanda seemed to be everybody’s darling, she bore Rhysol’s mark, and he …

He shook his head. He would not think of that, not now, not in front of Amelia Cross who already suspected too many things about him!

As she mentioned a lover and marriage consideration, his eyes darkened, and he clenchd his fists under the table. „My love life or the lack thereof is of no concern to you, Amelia“, he informed her coldly. He would not talk to her about that, about his shame, the wife he wished he would never get. It was none of her business! „I don’t want to know about that. Talk to me about Rhysol some more instead. What will my life be like when I’m finally his? Will I ever be able to reach the highest rank?“

She could probably guess what he meant with that. Valerius Nitrozian was a very ambitious man. He wanted to become a Druvin – or more. Somtimes, in his dreams, he saw himself as the Voice, Rhysol’s lover, his emissary, a man who had shattered the shackles of his mortal existence and become something more, something greater.

He paused for a moment, hesitated a little. Being marked by Rhysol was what he wanted, what he thought he wanted, and yet he could not help but wonder. „And then tell me about the other life, the life I could have if I take heed of your advice and decide to leave, for some time at least.“

Nothing was as clear, as the fact that Mr.Nitrozian, was a devoted follower of Rhysol. The thought of gaining his approval, his mark, it seemed to bring out even a small smile on his face. Though she still didn’t see this man as someone who might find peace under the god of chaos. She said, promised, she would not be a judge of decisions and she will keep those thoughts to her, but deep down as she saw his face, reactions, hand and cards…she believed he needed something else. Then again, she was also sure that her own father would be much better off if he decided to abandon Rhysol and fully turn to Dira…what she would never really say.

”cards don’t give names, I can only assume that you know the answer to this question better than I” she explained as the mention of his aunt was brought up. Amelia actually thought it might be someone else, with approval of the god, you lose rivals and shadows amongst your family…bigger shadows rise above you from within, the fortune teller might guess that with his desire to be appealing to Rhysol, he might actually be trying to join the sun and within, he would face shadows bigger than his aunt, yet, those were just guesses that she was not really allowed to voice.

His reaction to the mention of love life was actually a bit frightening, his tone and face. It was hard to tell, was Amelia angered by his behavior or was she sincerely scared of him. ”you asked me to read to you, to tell you what I see! What I say, is what my cards show me. And you, might consider following the way you speak a bit more often” she had little desire to argue, but something in his behavior just kept on pulling out these emotions from her.

”is he serious? The highest rank? To be…Rhysol’s voice?” it toke the girl a chime to swallow that bit of his question. She had never met someone who wished of it and spoke about it, even less who believed they could actually reach that position among the side of the creator of chaos. But if she had to be honest, she was not sure that this was a question she could answer, because a gods way is unpredictable…even the fact he might get marked is not rock solid, because the approval of a god did not always mean you would be marked, that the girl reminded herself ”I can’t tell you that, a gods way is not to be gasped by us, even the greatest can’t predict you what will a god do…therefor…this question is out” and she did not even consider to ever, ever in her live read him of it.

None the less, she could flesh out some more details in his life, so with the aid of two more cards, she looked into what would happen. It was of little surprise to see that his family, was proud of him when he chose to climb the stairs of this life. In a city like Ravok, things like this mattered quite a lot and were natural…but the other card once more mentioned forced relationship, to explain it a bit more she pulled out another card…the fool. It began pulling together now, it was not about being hearth broken once…he didn’t want to be in a relationship at all, that’s how Amelia saw it. Was that how they wanted to fix him? ”your family will clearly be proud of you if you stay here, and follow the shape they mold for you…but…I can’t tell you anything more, because everything else comes to the same old story of you being molded by them, trying to fix you…once again, relationship comes up, but you permitted me of speaking more in depth of it”

”some time, that is what I meant, Ravok is in your blood, it can’t be just put aside…eventually you’d be pulled back” but she was talking too much again, and off the topic as it had little to nothing to do with his fortune.

Once again she pulled out four cards again, aligning them carefully, all face up. Life, but not just any life…immortality…that was the card that stood strongest amongst others and she had no clue how to explain it. Amelia herself knew nothing about the undead, nuit…she knew only ghosts and that could not really be called immortality. ”I can’t tell you what is the place, but…it shows immortality…or at least a strong affection towards it…like…a project that is worked upon, but…you probably can make more sense of this card than I can” the card next to it…well, it was of little surprise, as it was the magician, but no, it didn’t mean he’d become close to magic, at least it was not solid. What it stood for here, was the knowledge, the power and strong will ”combined by knowledge, a strong will and power…there would still be a shadow over you, but…how would your family react to this is still not clear, as their reaction has a huge question mark over it, making it fully a thing of your own choice…if you let me put out a guess, I’d say it depends on how you word the decision to change your perspective for a time”

The last card Amelia had yet to actually explain, was the card that identified with happiness, he’d be calm at hearth, but for how long? For what reasons? Would it really be happiness or the loss of doubt that put his to ease? Because happiness is a hard term to gasp, and with a card as complicated to look over…it only awoke more question. She looked over the 3 other cards…and then began speaking ”but, it shows ease of mind…you’d be in a relative state of…happiness”

At this point she could only guess what would he consider a better option, because the thing that determined this, was not even Rhysol, it was his family. After all, you could still pray and worshipping a god while not in his city…but would his family take him back?

The Tea Connection (Amelia)

Postby Valerius Nitrozian on November 14th, 2013, 12:31 pm

As Amelia informed him that the cards did not give names and that he probably knew the answer better than she did, Valerius nodded. Who else but his aunt could the shadow she had mentioned be though? He furrowed his brow as he thought about it. Doctor Alzelin? No, Amanda Nitrozian was the head researcher. She was far more powerful and influential than the Doctor Alzelin could ever hope to be. She was a Chaon. As of now Valerius Nitrozian was not particularly close to any other powerful people in Ravok besides certain members of his family.

Amelia only needed to look at Valerius‘ face to confirm that, yes, he was indeed serious. He wanted to become powerful. He wanted to become a member of the Black Sun, a Druvin, and sometimes he even dreamed of becoming the Voice and being at Rhysol’s side. At least he thought that this was what he wanted. Surely there was nothing greater than this. „I understand that“, he replied as she told him that this particular question was out. „The two of us are mere mortals. We cannot claim to know the will of the gods.“

He watched curiously as she took the next two cards. He wished he knew what they meant, wishes that he knew what she did to them to know all those things that hit so close to home. But he was much too proud to ask her to teach him the secrets of her trade.

He furrowed his brow as she said more of the same, that his family would try to shape him, to fix him. He began to find the notion slightly unpleasant. Would a change of scenery really be so much better? Could you ever really get Ravok out of the Ravokian, Rhysol out of the follower of Rhysol? He pondered the question for a few moments before she spoke again.

„There is but one city in all of Mizahar that matches your description“, he told her. The expression on his face became a little more pleasant as he said those words. „It is Sahova, the home of the undead. If I decide to visit it, I need to carefully think about how I inform my grandfather of my decision, is that what you want to tell me?“ Was it really possible that they would accept it if he made a life for himself among the undead?

„Happiness“, he murmurred. The expression on his face had become unreadable once more. Valerius didn’t really know what happiness was. He had never given that particular feeling a lot of consideration. He’d never done something because it had the potential to make himself happy – to him happiness had always been irrelevant – he’d only ever wanted to become more powerful. If he could have happiness and the acceptance of his family though …

„I have but one last question, Amelia“, he spoke. He was relatively calm again. Her last words had eased his mind somewhat. „Is it simply leaving Ravok for a time that would bring me happiness or is it a specific action, a specific event?“

Amelia was pleased to see that Valerius was reasonable to not argue against her explanation, of one not being able to gasp the will of gods. To her, he came off as a faithful follower, to see a god truly as above himself, maybe even as a tool at his hand. But as her pattern of same warnings kept going, of his family fixing him and pushing things onto him, she caught a frown of his brow…she couldn’t tell was he thinking over what they might want to fix or push onto him, or actually considering this fate awful and considering to turn away from his god…but it was clear that she gave him some things to think over.

Sahova, yes, this was the city Amelia saw, but she couldn’t really state it as so…since her knowledge of those lands was poor and she did not know what was fact and what was fiction. However, by the change of the expression on her acquaintance’s face, she assumed that Valerius was quite well read on the city, and guided by that, she agreed to his statement. His next question reminded the girl of one of her first readings ever done in this city, it was a day that could have done harm to her…that day she learned how important it is to word your news in the right way ”that is what I am saying, you see, before the man who knows how to rephrase his thoughts, all rules bend” keeping up with her relaxed manner of speech and behavior she glanced around once more ”it is a fine art to tell unpleasant things, in a pleasant way…for example, I could tell a man that his whole family is going to die before he does, leaving him alone…or I could chose to tell him that he will outlive his family…you must admit, the point stays the same…but the second option is much more pleasing” and the art has saved her a lot of trouble in the past ”I am sure that a man like yourself is capable of phrasing a departure to Sahova, in a way that your family will even think of it as a mighty deed, rather than shameful or even worse…as betrayal” and now she realized, she had been getting a bit too personal, letting out 'Amelia' rather than 'Fortune teller' "sorry, it was out of my place..."

The last question, she had trouble believing that would be the last, but she nodded and flipped yet another card. Only to see that it was more than leaving that would cause his potential happiness, it was an event, more so, meeting someone that would open his eyes and give the key to happiness, if he chose to take it. Then again, she didn’t want to tell him it had something to do with a person, guessing that Valerius might see her as pushing her nose into things that were none of her business. ”it is an event, but it is linked with the city of Sahova, the event will occur as a possibility” was her short answer.

The Tea Connection (Amelia)

Postby Valerius Nitrozian on November 18th, 2013, 4:17 pm

„I have to admit, you have a certain way with words“, Valerius remarked as Amelia spoke about telling unpleasant things in a pleasant way. „I will certainly be able to come up with a way to make my departure seem like a great deed to my family, if I decide to leave.“ He already had a few ideas. He would tell them that he wanted to conduct some research, some research that would benefit the Kelvic Research Institution and his own private project greatly. Sahova was a magical research facility. Surely the Nuit possessed knowledge that Ravok did not. That he was also interested in other things, was none of his family’s business.

They didn’t need to know everything about him!

As Amelia apologized, he nodded curtly, a sign that he accepted her apology. „Something will happen then“, he remarked as she informed him that it would be an event that would bring him happiness. „Or will I meet somebody? Somebody that will have an impact on my life?“ He furrowed his brow as he thought about it. There were still so many questions on his mind. No, he had even more questions than he had had before, but he had told her that his previous one would be the last one. It seemed wrong to just change his mind now.

„You have given me a lot to think about, Amelia“, he told her. Some of the things she had said were rather unpleasant, to be honest, but he would just not care about them, he decided. „Can I trust you to keep the contents of our conversation to yourself? I would rather not have people find out about certain aspects of my personality or certain plans I have. If you agree to keep what you see a secret, I will make it worthwhile for you.“

Amelia was not sure how to exactly react to the way Valerius stated, that indeed, she had a way with words. But since she didn’t want to take it as sarcasm, she toke the liberty of assuming it as a sincere compliment, after all, a way with words was a thing held quite valuable here in Ravok. The city where even knowing ones name might give you too much power over them, where rumors where the most powerful poison to use against your nemesis.

As the man let two more questions slip out, Amelia began wondering, should she remind the man that he himself, said that he would not push any more questions upon her? After all, despite her curiosity about him and his unusual behavior compared to most people of powerful origins in Ravok, she had little interest in his future if, that was an act she had little to no role to play in it. ”How about we leave those questions for another time” she calmly explained, while putting her cards away, still so careful with them as if they were made of fine glass. The gesture alone made it clear that she was done with fortunetelling for the day, at least for this man.

She couldn’t hold back a light chuckle as the Nitrozian admitted that a mere fortuneteller gave him so many things to think over. The girl could almost swear on her life that the man wouldn’t sleep this night, thinking over her words. Of course, would the approval of his family and his current path be his to keep, would he chose the alternative…or even bend the rules and form a new path, was still uncertain. ”You can be sure, Valerius, that anything I told you, stays between me and you…” but she will be sure to remember the things that made him stand out among the rest.

With the fortune reading coming to a complete and final end, the more constructive part of their meeting seemed to come to have died as well, as the rest was filled with aimless and casual chatter. What Amelia would explain as excuses to fill up the silence before they would part.
