Secret :
Oh no! I'm sorry! Ollic is such an emotional boy, and I wanted to show that side of him. But being a little girl, Eshe sure knew how to handle that rather nicely. Do I need to comfort you like Eshe is with Ollic? :p

Hands on her hips, Eshe somewhat resembled his mother for a split second. His mind awhirl momentarily, he brushed the tears out of his lashes and pushed his shoulder blades back to create a taller posture.

He wasn’t weak, yet his display of depressing emotion portrayed a different story. It was so hard controlling his emotions! Lately he had been a tornado of emotional destruction, giving himself more trouble than anything in all his years alive ever had.

It wasn’t a lecture she gave him, but it wasn’t a comfort of soothing words either. Broken down into understandable text for simplicity’s sake, Eshe was telling him to straighten up and defend himself against the wrath of the problems and issues the world provoked upon him. No one had it easy and although people handled situations differently than others, you needed to try your hardest to survive the oncoming issues with strength and determination. Or at least that is how Ollic interpreted it.

I will try to come on top, he thought to himself. I will try for Eshe, because she is my bestest friend. It was cute how she turned that word around. Bestest. That was something that Ollic knew he would cherish as he grew.

“Okay.”

For Eshe.

"I’ll try."

For Eshe.

"I won't let you down."

For Eshe.

"I'm your bestest friend."

For Eshe.

For Eshe. Because I need her.

Everything he said aloud came through his cracked and salty lips in a mere whisper, too hard for anyone to hear, not even himself.

"Okay," he said louder this time and grinned a clumsy grin that played on his mouth with shy confusion. Don't through a snowball at me. He pleaded with utmost sincerity. Please.

"Can you help me make you some hot cocoa?" he asked with a slight cringe, still replaying the turn of events in his head. Over and over and over again.

OOCYes, you evil person. The feels. Whyyy!? And of course she knew how to handle it. She's very mature for her age... Sort of.

"There we go! 'Course I'll help you make cocoa."

Eshe shuffled through the cocoa powder and grasped the jar in one little hand, her fingers pressed against the glass. Now... How did he do it? Her other hand wrapped around the jar, lifting it with a slight grunt. There was still enough dust in it to use, wasn't there? She tapped the top of the jar against the edge of the glass, raising the opposite end and watching the powder slide into it.

As soon as she figured it was enough, the tiny child held the cocoa jar out to her friend with shaking arms. It was unusually heavy. She grinned widely, tilting her chin up. The smile caused her to squint, eyes almost closed.

"Here you go, Ollic! You might like more, but this is good. You should pour the milk in!"

Watching Eshe with glassy eyes, but still all the more intrigued, Ollic saw her grab the jar of cocoa in her tiny hand and pour it into the glass. She did so with such perfection that Ollic felt a little pang of jealousy. His eyes were an abnormal shade of green, like that of a cat’s.

She outstretched her hand which held the jar of cocoa powder, her arms obviously too frail to hold onto something so heavy. He himself was having difficulties holding it as he took it away from her and set it on the ground beside them.

When she offered for him to pour the milk, the yellow-emerald colour blasted into an orange in means of anxiety or nervousness. What if he messed it up again? Milk is much harder to clean up than cocoa powder is. Or at least, he thought so.

“I don’t know,” he told her, twiddling his thumbs in a way of distraction.

Several thoughts kept his anxiety at bay, though. Hadn’t Eshe just told him that people make mistakes? Hadn’t she just given him a positive lecture on how he would never fail her? Hadn’t his friend just told him that you needed to stuff the trouble life gives you back in its face?

“Oh, okay,” he corrected himself as he got up, wiped the remaining tears that had stained his cheeks away with his sleeve, and walked over to the counter where the bottle of milk still sat.

He grasped it with two hands and walked back to where Eshe sat on the ground, the glass cup in her hands. His own hands were near close to turning blue from the tight hold he had on the milk bottle. But he poured it with ease, watching the white liquid splash into the glass like a waterfall… how peaceful.

Ollic smiled at Eshe, losing concentration and spilling a little bit, near close to hitting his thigh in anger. However, he held in his anger and grit his teeth, a forced smile forming on his lips.

For Eshe.

For Eshe, because I need her.

Quickly looking over to his teacher, his expression spoke of questioning praise. Did he do well? What do you do now? Heat it up, right?

“I think we put it over the fireplace for a little while as it heats up. Do you want to make another glass whilst I do that?”

So good thus far.

Secret :
Well my fair lady, wipe those tears, because I'm sure Ollic would snap at you saying something along the lines of "Do as I say not as I do? Take the troubles life gives you and toss them back!" Haha, but yeah... I would agree at her maturity. She's so adorable too. I'm just so glad Ollic isn't alone anymore. I actually started to get a little sad when I was writing the reply that made you sad before too. No more tears! Onward and upward with hot chocolate! :p

Despite the fact that Ollic had spilled some of the milk, Eshe still beamed brightly. Her smile was interrupted by the single gap where her canine used to be. The tiny child stood with some effort, concentration clear on her face as she lifted the glass onto the counter. She wiped off the condensation already forming on the chilled surface, rubbing her hand on her thigh. It was already cold. Then again, it wasn't hard to keep something cold in the kingdom of the Ice Queen.

"I think we put it over the fireplace for a little while as it heats up. Do you want to make another glass whilst I do that?"

"Sure, Ollic! D'you need help moving it over to the fireplace?"

Why would anyone want to heat up milk? It probably tasted funny. All nasty and warm. Then again, it was called hot cocoa. Why wouldn't you want to heat it up?

Her smile, one side of her mouth missing a tooth that Ollic had not but now realised, was all he could have asked for. Besides a little creamy liquid falling onto the floor, he had done a pretty exceptional job and Eshe had praised him with a genuine smile.

“No, I think I can get it there myself,” he relieved her as he grabbed the glass with two hands and stood up slowly. This was not only to prevent the drink from spilling but also to prevent him from feeling light headed.

As he was walking slowly over to the fireplace, he heard Eshe tinkling around the kitchen, most likely getting ready to make a second glass. Hopefully he hadn’t wasted so much cocoa powder that there hadn’t been any left for a second serving. If there wasn’t any left, the two could share, right?

Locating a metal rack that sat above the fire, being supported by two metal beams on either side, Ollic set the glass down on the floor for a split second as he grabbed for the tongs that his mother used when putting something to set in the blazing fire. He most certainly didn’t want to burn his fingers!

Pulling them off a hook on the left side of the fireplace, he grasped the glass lightly as to not break it, but tight enough as to not have it fall and shatter into a million little pieces. He then moved it into the fireplace and sat it down gently onto the metal rack.

Dropping the tongs quickly to the ground, having lost his grip, but managing to keep the glass stable, he observed his work. Now all he had to do was wait a few minutes until the drink would be warmed enough to drink properly.

Taking his eyes off the blazing inferno for a second, he turned his attention to Eshe to see how she was coming along on his own drink.

It was weird how he had tried to make his friends’ drink, and now his friend was trying to make his drink. He had meant to make both, but it seemed like a flip flop of duties. Either way he still couldn’t help but feel embarrassed and useless, always messing up and fearing what one day he would become in the terrible and treacherous world of Mizahar.

Would he fail or succeed if he couldn’t even make hot cocoa?

Secret :
Who knew making hot cocoa could be so entertaining?

Eshe stood on her tiptoes, reaching for the shelf that held glasses. Ollic was shuffling over to the fire, preparing to heat the cocoa-milk. Her fingers stretched, stretched, stretched as far as they could, but to no avail. The only option was climbing on top of the counter.

The tiny child somehow lifted herself onto the surface, swinging one leg on top of it for better leverage and getting on her knees. Her little hands wrapped around a second glass, slowly placing it back on the counter. She turned, and a sudden fright came over her. She was really, really high up, or so it seemed to the girl. Eshe looked to her friend for help.

"Ollic? I can't get down, I'm scared! It's too far!"

She scooted back against the wall, away from the edge, away from the fear. Hopefully Ollic would come help her down. He'd finished putting the glass over the flame, and had glanced over at her. Eshe met his eyes, her own wide.

Taking a once over, as Ollic was checking up on his partner’s side of the cocoa making duty, he noticed her in distress, crouching as close as she could away from the edge of the counter, calling him for help with her eyes.

He could have sworn he had heard her cry in a semi-tiny voice, but his mind was miles away before he nearly launched up from his sitting position by the fire, and sprinted to aid Eshe.

“Don’t worry,” he said to her in hopes of calming her down. It was much harder to get someone down when they were frantic and panicky. If they were calm and relaxed, the flaiing arms and kicking feet weren’t an issue.

Thankfully Eshe didn’t cause him too much trouble as he tried to grip her around the waist and pull her down. Nearly falling the process, Eshe slipped out of his grasped and landed on his stomach, Ollic’s head nearly colliding with the hard wooden floor.

That was close, he thought to himself as he shut his eyes for a mere second. Perhaps he should have gotten the other glass down before setting the first in the fire. The fire! It was probably already done heating up!

Smiling at Eshe before dodging up from underneath her, he sprinted yet again in the opposite direction he had come to the fire. Reaching for the tongs and clamping his hands on either side of the handles, he reached in for the glass and pulled it out in one quick motion, quickly setting it on the floor for it to cool.

Wiping his brow, Ollic sighed a heavy gasp of air. He didn’t think it had been in there for too long, but perhaps any longer and it would be too hot, and not taste very pleasant.

Returning to his friend, whom had struggled to reach for the glasses before, he open the top cabinet and pulled down a large glass for Eshe who gracefully took it with a smile.

“Do you need me to help you with anything else?” he asked, his cheeks flushed from running and his eyes a deep green. His determination for making sure the cocoa wasn’t too hot and for helping Eshe in retrieving a glass for the highest cabinet had his heart beating out of his chest.

He thought to himself that this entire day had been enough excitement for once. Perhaps a story and some hot cocoa would do the trick after they were finished preparing the second cup.

“Would you like for me to tell you a story when we’re done?”

Eshe's small heart was racing, a frantic thumpthumpthumpthumpthump that echoed in her ears. She watched her friend dart across to her from the fire, his arms outstretched.

"Don't worry."

The world seemed to slow down, his words stretched and garbled, as if they were underwater.

Don't worry.

Ollic had come to her rescue. He wouldn't leave her alone.

Never.

He managed to grasp her around her waist and get her down from the counter, despite the tiny child slipping and landing on his middle. She hoped she didn't cause too much internal damage. His head had almost hit the floor, too. That wouldn't have been much fun. Eshe's bottom connected with the wood as her soft perch suddenly disappeared from underneath her, racing to the fire.

Ollic returned once more after placing the hot cocoa on the ground to cool, loping back to his little friend with long, easy strides. He retrieved a second glass for her, and she seized it with her minute fingers. A bright smile was directed towards him. His request was voiced and the smile grew bigger.

"My mommy said you guys were really good storytellers!"

Her agreement was obvious, shining from her quartz-like eyes.

Eyes like saucers, the moon’s size but like the colour of the ocean in mid-day, Ollic’s smile showed his triumph and glee, for he was a good story teller.

When he was much younger, his father would always tell him stories of things he had done with not only patients, but real life experiences. One time his father was out in the forest when a wolf came near him and sat down only a yard stick away. His heart raced as he watched the beat watching him. It was like peace and harmony had met. Neither moved a muscle until his father told him that he had gotten up with a serious face and nodded his head to the wild dog before departing.

It was a miraculous story that held Ollic on the edge, his heart beat racing like horse’s hooves on asphalt- thumpthumpthump. His breathing would quicken after hearing that story more than once- huffhuffhuff. His mind would be whirling inside his head like a tornado off its leash- wooshwooshwoosh.

Grabbing the glass Eshe had so desperately tried to reach, he began to pour the little remains of cocoa powder into it, and then chased it with a heavy dose of milk before he carried it with nimble fingers over to the fire to heat up.

Watching the fire blaze in front of his eyes sparked a story; a good story that he would tell Eshe when her full attention was glued onto him. His eyes would turn a deep seaweed green with a mix of dark blue as he spoke of the past and Eshe would watch him with her jaw dropped in awe. He would relish the attention, but fear the possibility of messing up the perfectly told story by his father.

Taking the other glass of now hot cocoa, he set it on the hard wooden floor and swapped them out in order to hand Eshe the cooled one.

“Here you are miss,” he said to her in a polite fashion before picking up his own and blowing on it with mild ferocity. Some hot cocoa dripped over the side from the power of his blow, but with everything that had happened recently, he didn’t mind in the slightest.

“Let me see,” Ollic started as he racked his mind for the proper story, something that would amaze even himself. “How about we start with one that my father would always tell me. It has something to do with a wolf, a flower and a fair maiden.”

Now with that wicked grin that spread across his face like the crescent shaped moon, he took a deep breath and waited, adding suspense to his beginning tale.

The glass Eshe had strained to grab was taken from her once more, but filled with cocoa powder and plenty of milk. It was transferred from Ollic's hands to the rack over the fire. She watched her friend quietly, curious. What was he doing? He just kind of stared at the flames. After what seemed to be eternity he retrieved the hot cocoa and delivered it to the child.

She copied Ollic's actions and blew on the drink in an attempt to cool it down, although this was unnecessary due to the fact that it was the one rescued from the tongues of fire earlier. Eshe sipped the brown liquid hesitantly, not sure about how it would taste. The silky flavor coated her throat as she swallowed, a pleasing, rich chocolate one. Her eyes went wide. So that's what hot cocoa was! The edge of the glass went to her mouth once more, eager to taste the sweetness once more.

The tiny girl watched Ollic like a hawk, waiting for him to start to ease the suspense created by his temporary silence.
